First version was actually registered by the Leaves, what we hear here is the arrangment as made by Hendrix, so all these people who say that Roberts influenced Hendrix' playing are full of shit.
"Hey Joe" is not on the 1975 album "Thoughts of California" . In case anyone should get the impression from this upload! Which, however, I like a lot!!!
it's true that this guy (roberts) wrote this song. But he registered it after jimi hendrix... i don't know what year is this but he can't ecscape from the interpretations of hendrix and the leaves.... for example, the introduction is obviously jimi hendrix's one (the all song is indeed)... at the same way hendrix take inspiration from the leaves, and the leaves from someone who listened billy roberts.... this song is a circle...
I can really see Billy Roberts influence on hendrixs version, he really wrote a masterpiece, but I have to say I prefer hendrixs version, it's so much more natural sounding, Billy sounds kind of tense while singing this.....
@13Musicmachine This version is CLEARLY recorded AFTER HENDRIX, the version Hey Joe that was played over and over when recording Hey Joe in London, according to Noel Redding was the Tim Rose one, released 1966. Billy Roberts never influenced ANYBODY, jeeesus certainly not Hendrix, wtf!
@w0rdisbond Roberts didnt have to influence anybody but it was certainly his song that Jimi Hendrix liked and covered....he was talking about it himself......i know thats of none importance but to clear things up, it was this song that JH Experience covered...
Hendrix version is better but this is is good!

@Fasoun No, THIS IS A VERSION THAT TALENT-LESS ROBERTS RECORDED AFTER HENDRIX, PROBABLY AS LATE AS THE NINETIES. MKAY?
TIME ROSE'S 1966 VERSION IS THE ONE HENDRIX COVERED IN 1967, PLEASE GO AHEAD AND DIG UP THE ROBERTS 1966 ONE, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR IT.
CUZ I CAN SHOW YOU THE TIME ROSE ONE, ITS OBVIOUSLY WHAT PROPELLED HENRIX. GOOD NIGHT
