The ball in cricket is pitched much closer to the body than in baseball. It regularly aims toward the body (or the batsmen moves their body into the line of the ball in order to hit it) whereas Baseball it isn't going to hit them.

And Cricketers face dozens (often hundreds) of balls, not 3 or 4 that they do in Baseball, so one mistake and it hits your body.
