  • Lovely words in your description, Clifford really was top class, in words & music,

  • Had to add my tribute to Clifford - the single was bought for me by my (at the time) girlfriend in 1973 - while we were at University. I had to by the album - and was blown away by the range and versatility of the music. Still got the LP - but lost the single, and the girlfriend - still brings back fond memories tho. Clifford's music was simple yet profound, and touched many of us very deeply. He is sadly missed.

  • When this song was released in 1973, I was 17 & a heavy rock fan...but when I heard it, it blew me away, but I never had the courage to tell my mates that I liked it ! I played it on a juke box in the local pub, & when the outcry started, as to who put it on...I lust kept my head down !! Possibly the most beautiful song ever written.

  • Nice song.... kinda depressing though

  • According to the people of Portugal (and even Brazil) Clifford T Ward was a legendado portugues. They gave us Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho and we gave them our Cliff "the special one". Wish you were still with us Cliff - the world is a sadder place without your presence. Your legacy lives on and we cherish it!

  • There were two wonderfully gifted singer -songwriters of this era who sadly both failed to realize their full potential and both were word smiths of the highest order. One was of course Clifford T Ward and the other was Jonathan Kelly. Anyone who enjoys Clifford should also check out the early Jonathan Kelly material; especially Son Jon, I used To know You, Madeleine & Rock You To Sleep. I loved the two of them and although they are not entirely similar musically, their word paintings were!

  • Meu Deus voltei 35 anos da minha vida !!!!! como é bom saber que eu tinha bom gosto que música maravilhosa viva a vida e o amor !!!!!!!!!!!

  • A você Néia, amor de minha vida!

  • Takes me back to my teenage years, love this song to bits.

I suppose it does what good songs should do and take you back to the moment and this song is excellent!

  • adore this track,it takes me back to 1973 aged 16,sitting in my mums back kitchen with my little radio,on came ctw singing gaye, fell in love with the song, still love it today, its my fave song of all time, true music genius.

  • In my early 70's days, courting my soon to be (and still is) wife, we discovered CTW. Those days were filled with hours and hours of us together with Clifford T , this man, this beautifuly eloquent man, touched our souls like no other musican either before, or after, his artistry and lyrical genius transcends to hieghts others can only dream of attaining, his premature, so very sad passing has left the world a poorer place. We thank you CTW for the rich memories and being part of our lives.

  • I was wondering ... has anyone else picked up on the close similarities between the music of Clifford T Ward and Al Stewart during the 1970's?

  • @MrPoupard During the 1970's Al Stewart cracked the USA with 2 excellent multi million selling songs (Time Passages and Year of the Cat) sadly our Cliff's attempt to crack the USA did not succeed. Cliff was an outstanding singer songwriter and producer - he refused to play concerts and tour . Al is a great singer, lyricist and live charismatic performer. I agree with you that musically they created outstanding songs that to this day sound fresh and timeless. Classic artistes!

  • @MrSteveOneal Many thanks for all of that. It makes we wonder of they ever actually met in the 1970's or were ever able to compare notes. For me the "feel" between their (different) bodies of work at the time is so similair as to be almost uncanny, a sort-of "poetic Englishness" runs through their pararell work like a slab of granite.

  • A great loss - never to be forgotten

    Fluff

  • Quite simply, one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • Do you know if there is a video of Cliff anywhere when he appeared on Top of the pops singing Gaye, no one seems to have it, one of his lost video's i hear.

  • I heard tihis song yesterday on the eve of my 53rd birthday! It simply brought back my teenage years and the fab 70's

When I played Home Thoughts It reduced me to tears, we all seem to grow up and lose track of old freinds, my brother moved abroad, we see so little of each other and time is passing. Thank God for the talents of Clifford, bet he was a lovely human, he brought so much to many.

    Dave P from the Shuttle.

  • this was the first clifford t ward song i ever heard so many years ago . ive only just learnt to use th internet and to be able to voice the way i feel about the musc i love is so wonderful . ive been reading all the coments written, so many with so much compassion my favourite is heaven

  • @MegaCarville Hello fellow new pc user! Isn't it super to be able to share your love of CTW? Heaven rates very highly on my favourite list also.

  • Fabulous song, and such a great singer. Very sadly missed.

  • por aqui novamente....nao consigo deixar de ouvi-la

  • Absolutely wonderful ! I remember when it came out.

  • nice !!!!

    congratulations

  • He has a very passionate and caring fan club and most of his music is still available. Although Gaye was his first hit (and only big hit) this video is a bit later in his career, I think - possibly 1980s?

  • Still sends shivers down my spine how musically perfect this is.

Sadly no longer with us but a great musician and his brilliance is still here for us to enjoy

  • Everyone on this planet should listen to this song...on repeat...let it into your soul, it's where it belongs.

  • Loved his songs in the 70's and they still sound great

  • Always loved this song. So reminds me of the early 70's

  • Great song. Thanks for upload.

  • Clifford T Ward is sadly missed...

  • Memória auditiva, talvez a que mais marca nossas trajetórias neste planeta...maravilhosa música, quanta saudade!

  • I would have loved someone to sing this to me----if my name was Gaye of-course. Beautiful...beautiful words

  • really on a nostagia trip.. another song I wept to when I was at skool.... Fiona... mmmmm

  • @zedster911 Was that Fiona with the big tits????

  • My humble opinion is that CTW found the tiny soul-centre which lies in every human.

He is remembered mostly by the ex-teenies of the 70`s who were being blasted by

all kinds of uptown and very actual rock/pop Era which was possible to blow our minds at that time. We had a wonderful Era. We were surrounded with the demi-gods of the not yet present commercial music industry. We could enjoy, and we still can, the best of times. CTW was the part of that which Beethoven is to Wagner.

  • sabia que ia encontrar essa tbm.........

  • uma ótima lembrança.............

  • got the song on the original single , got the album. recorded i on my sony walkman . got it on cd, got it on mp3, generations of multi media, it is still timeless

  • When this was out, I was a spotty and revolting 15-year-old and hated it.

I'm 52 and love it... musically, lyrically, the spirit. Wonderful melody.

  • While not wishing to denigrate the fact that there is great music and great singer-songwriters all over the world, Clifford T seems to be yet another example of the peculiar British trait of ignoring or overlooking the genius in our midst.

  • como amo esta cancion!!!! me da cosita, me lleva a una persona que quiero con toda mi alma ♥

  • Love this song
