John Connor will not die in this movie since this is when the machines start making the cyborg models. Another hint is that Reese is just a teenager in this movie. As you may recall, Reese is in his late twenties when T-1 happens, and at that point John is still alive in the future. Reese was sent from the year ~2029, and this film takes place in 2018 so there is still 11 years of crap to go through.

The original Terminators were good for their age, but it is the new age now, and please stop living in the past.
