  • I can tell hearing make this video. You barely see her signs can!

  • Why can't we see her hands speaking?? Why switch it to English for those of us who would like to 'listen' to her in her native language?? I don't get it!

  • They definitely should have showed her hands more so we could see her sign. Having to rely on the interpreter so much was a bit irritating.

  • i remember seeing her on Blues Clues!!!!

  • hi. good atfernoon.. wow..I look actess for show drame..

  • God bless Marlee. She keeps it real. I'm a fan! And Jack the interpreter is wonderful .

  • Beautiful! But what a foolish thing to video her without showing her hands the whole time. This should celebrate her deafness. The publishers had no understanding of Deaf Culture.

  • Marlee Matlin te banco en todas

  • I came here because of Family guy. : D

  • the translator is the guy who always translates for her ...

  • She's attractive.

  • I agree that the editing was bad (from a deaf person's perspective)... .they should try watching some of the new innovative deaf cinema techniques if they are looking for a fresh idea of how to edit deaf people signing for an interview.

  • You can use the CC button and Youtube will try to transcribe what she's saying. The mistakes are pretty funny. She keeps talking about what it's like being death.

  • IT Coool

  • She uses Jack for everything . He must be her personal voice. I noticed that as well.

  • hahah pause it at 0:34

  • her hands are cut out -.-*

  • She's so inspiring... :) Thank you Marlee for your courage!

  • It is edited in that part of the video gets cut off, so you cannot easily tell what she is signing.

  • Numb-nuts editors - I want to see her sign, not to listen to some jerk translate.

  • I LOVE TO HER¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Yep definitely edited by a hearing person ignorant of deaf ways. :( How could they miss that they've cut off too much of her signing? :( Same thing for tv shows.

  • Shame on the video uploader for not making this accessible. There are a number of moments when her hands drop out of frame, and without subtitles we are left out.

  • @woofiegrrl I agreed!

  • Marlee run for President. You are the best. a deaf woman in office, we need change, Go Marlee. Keeping real all the time.

  • I thought she could speak...just not very well

  • @scouser96100

    She does

  • @scouser96100 She can speak verbally quite well. You can find videos where she does so, if you want to hear her voice.

  • mrs beasley was angry too

  • for me and you, a drum solo or a deaf person would just be flailing my/our arms

  • it's unfathomable a thought as the star trek next gen episode where the muse actually had three spokespersons for the simple psyche living in the present tense

  • i'm so amazed by her, and what would she say about a neil peart drum solo...

  • Marlee Marry me, I LOVE YOU

  • @JDaltonRotoGrip saying actor is like saying gay men and women are ACTORS... but only women are actresses. and men and women are GAY but only women are lesbians. does that make sense? its a universal co-ed term.

  • You selectet: 300 if that's right, say yes NOW

  • @JDaltonRotoGrip I was a theatre major and some females prefer to use actor as a universal term. So that is not out of the norm.

  • I LOVE Marlee!

  • What's the point of her signing if its going to be cut out. The editing is terrible, its like turning the sound off and expecting people to understand it...

  • I know, editing cut off her signing

  • totally edited by a hearing person. bummer they don't let her speak in her language or make it accessible to other Deaf people. bummer.

  • @organicgrowngirl it's not edited, that is her sign interpreter, Jack. he goes with her absolutely everywhere and says exactly what she signs. he's always there, simply because Marlee doesn't like to talk like us. not to be mean or anything, but that's who was talking for her. they don't usually show him on camera with her, because it's her words.

  • @mekylulu7 I was referring to the fact that her hands are edited out of most of the frames. I can't understand her if I'm not listening because I can't see her hands half the time. I love Jack. That's not what I was referring too.

  • @BouncyBeccaaa Actually that's her long time interpreter, James. They are not married.

  • @someone2307 Jack**

  • @BouncyBeccaaa *Jack

  • @someone2307

    Yeah

  • @BouncyBeccaaa Jack isn't her husband. He's just her interpreter.

  • @organicgrowngirl She actually prefers to use ASL.

  • @organicgrowngirl I have no idea what you're referring to, but if you think she was actually speaking, she wasn't. Most deaf people move their lips silently while they "sign". This wasn't edited.

  • @noxgta I'm referring to the fact that her hands are cut out of the frames.

  • @organicgrowngirl huh???? she's signing, and and Jack HER INTERPRETER is voicing. what do you mean not letter her use her language? she is lol...

  • @organicgrowngirl My thoughts exactly.

  • oh god. a "disability".... I smell ignorance to Deaf culture

  • @organicgrowngirl . She chose this guy for a reason. She knows how her interprets her. She also knows ASL is a visual language and not spoken word for word in English. He her interpreter has to interpret many words according to her signs and the story at hand. While using voice change to get the hearing to hear like she is talking instead of a monotone interpreter. She and he knows whats up! It is accessible to deaf people. Its in ASL. Their visual language. You must not be educated in the area

  • yes - really bad editing to chop off her hands. it's like covering up the mouth of someone who's talking - really weird

  • Why don't they show her signing? There's no captions, and if you're deaf and want to watch this, half the time you can't see her sign!

  • i know some asl and would have loved to have watched this with no sound to see if i could follow along. too bad they pulled away from her for other shots and shot too close to her to see all her signs. i could follow along with the voice over but of course deaf people cannot.

  • she kinda reminds me of molly shannon a little bit...like a mix between molly and tina fey... she's really beautiful

  • yeaaa, i can hardly see her signing. . .

  • A great interview and wonderful example of PSE...

  • wha why cover signing? bu important lip or voice?! rude......

  • I love Marlee she's awesome

  • MILF! :P

  • @JWgameplays I think it's DILF (deaf I'd like to...)

  • @VisionTV2: Why didn't you create CC?

  • I fell more in love with Marlee Matlin when I went in my ASL class. :) I wanna meet her, Reba, Taylor Swift and a lot more lol. Although, I HATE the fact that the people didn't show all her signs but at least I could hear the man talk. Next time, they should put closed caption on it for the Deaf people that wanna' watch it. I'm hard-of-hearing so I'm okay..but still, closed caption is better.

  • shes truley my biggest hero i had a stroke at birth and cant really use my right hand and im progressin as much as she is thank u marlee 4 this

  • Aw, I wish I could see more of her signing. It wasn't shot very well for that.

    But it was interesting.

  • That Woman Knows How. Respect!

  • She's Been Pretty Forever!

  • @DoWnToEaRtH100, STFU! I am allowed to have a opinion, that is why your allowed to leave comments. If you couldn't have a opinion they wouldn't allow you to comment Genius !DUH! Stay the Hell out of business you Idiot.

  • I love her.

  • captions are terrible - please edit them here ASAP for all of us with hearing loss,

    thanks in advance,

    ccac

  • Deafyoungman, you're a idiot.

  • oh my god!!! i miss you!!! WOW...

  • Marlee isn't the director. It's not her place to tell the cameraman what to do. It's great that she did the interview to help people understand Deafness. Marlee's supporting Deaf Culture. She's using ASL & an interpreter. Yes she can lipread & she can speak. But she's not doing it because she is proud to be Deaf. In Hollywood, her goals & challenges are much different than those that we face. She needs to fit into both the Hearing & Deaf world. Cut her some slack. Know that she's trying her best

  • @Deafyoungman MM does what she can. it's not fair to judge her like that because she cant control the cameraman! Yeah she could have probably said something, but most likely she didnt even know they werent focusing on her signs! you know cameras have a ZOOM ON THEM. she didnt know! leave her alone she has enough to deal with in her life she doesnt need ignorant people trying to put her down over some immature whiners. this is why they came up with CLOSED CAPTIONS duh!

  • Comment removed

  • they need to fix the cc cux when she sign deaf and the cc say death grr

  • This Unscripted camera was not focus her sign language. MM was suppose to teach the camera man to make square head to tummy and should to shoulder. So we Deaf can see her sign not her lipreading, I barely readlip. this isnt fair for me. She never stood up and yell the director or camaera to make Deaf WAY or DEaf Culture fliming,. I am very upset that MM did not stand up for us. thank s allot MM.....

  • @Deafyoungman It's not Marlee's fault this happened. She didn't set up the camera. Calm the hell down. They'll put some cations up for you, later. So stop complaining. People make mistakes all the time. Get used to it.

  • what did cameraman think about hands windmilling for ?

  • she is the most funny, beautiful and inspirational woman in the world! MARLEE U ROCK!! (p.s. is it just me or Marlee gets more beautiful as time goes by).
