Two pipes and three wheels, then you can put two persons in there. Each person takes turn using both legs to push the pedal on his side.
How about using gravity. Twenty one people form a bus. One person take the steering wheel. Behind him are ten persons each side take turn stepping on the pedal on their side and shift all their weight on it. There will be over thousand pounds each time pushing the pedal and nobody would be over stressed.
.... i race hpv's with my school our bike has hit 80km/h so only slightly slower then this one but i think it is funny how a group of students who have not graduated from high school almost beating you. our bike next year has a predicted top speed of 130km/h witch is 80.77 miles per hour :) great video though.
Just wanted to drop a line: thanks for posting such a complete video introducing the topic! I'm from Daniel Webster College, and we'll be competing in the ASME East competition this May. If we get enough interest/funding, we may be out in Nevada next September! Thanks again!
Well, I can see what they are doing, it is still cheating, laying down in an inclosed streamlined space competing with records set against regular bikes.
wow that's pretty fast. would be quite an adrenaline rush. the fastest i've gone on my schwinn varsity on a flat road is 30.1 mph. and that felt fast for a bike. i can't imagine going 60 :)
These vehicles are designed strictly for speed. That extra pound or two to carry wheels that would only be used to start and stop is weight that would drag down a best time. This competition is on a flat road, so it's not like going down hill where more weight will increase the speed.

Two pipes of these will be come 3 or 4 wheels.

The recumbent style bike is all wrong for these things. you need to build a streamliner upright like a regular style bicycle to put more power down.

@imattila Has to be REALLY big to fit all the people needed for pedalling... :-)))))

topbox media are filming the design, build and first land speed record attempt for a 100% wooden bicycle.
"No bolts or screws, just wood and glues!" as Michael Thompson the bike's creator says.
View our profile to watch a short teaser to raise awareness and help raise some money for the charity "Shelter Box."
The resulting documentary will I'm certain be very, very entertaining...

allmost everyone can build a vehicle with technical skills, thats no rocket science. Finding a rider to pedal it is the most challenging.

why not put some retractable wheels with struts so you don't crash and people don't have to catch you, when you are ready to stop drop the struts out
BillyJackets 3 years ago 3
he already told you, there is no room for unnecessary parts. that would be a waste of space in the bicycle.
