  • I liked this video. I watched the parts. I like paul mccartney. i find him hilarious.

  • Anyone notice his thumb over neck technique? :)

  • This is an interesting interview- very different from the others.

  • You don't fucking tell a beatle there's no time to play!!! YOU DONT!!!!

  • @CuteMcBeauty YOU COULDN'T TELL THEY WERE BOTH JOKING!!!???Paul was just screwing around and Johnny went along with it!

  • @beatlestoneful YOU COULT'D TELL I WAS JOKING!!!???

  • I talked to Paul the day after this aired on Rock Line.

And taped it. Now when I turn on my computer Paul says,

    "Hey Butch"! Love ya Paul!

  • Yeah :) I'm also talking about Johnny too! Haha I love that guy

  • I remember watching this when it first aired. Those were the good days

  • Glas someone else appreciates it, man. :) Seems like I'm about the only one who cares

  • @hollowaymccartney Oh, you'd be surprised. Paul is really loved.

  • This acually made me tear up

  • @hollowaymccartney Me, too. Yeah.

  • The good old days.

  • I taped this as it aired. Paul came out with a birthday cake for Johnny.

  • @lakefloor Yes, that's in part 1. I taped it as it aired, too hence

my putting it on youtube. :)

  • I have to laugh at the FEW comments undermining Johnny Carson. These two men attained equal status in their chosen fields. Taking Johnny Carson away from comedy would be the same as taking Paul McCartney away from Rock n Roll. Paul keeps us singing during the day and Johnny would put us to bed with a good laugh. I say we should thank them both.

  • yeah, but we beat you in the revolution ;)

  • Carson was overrated.

  • Carson was a dick sadly enough- cluless and boring interviewing an icon

  • Absolutely. He also played one on the Wings over America tour. And Linda had an Adamas (made by Ovation) custom made for him.

They're great guitars - at least Cat Stevens, Loggins & Messina, Glen Campbell, Joan Armatrading and others thought so... they all played them. At the time, they were THE acoustic guitar for live performance.

  • Lol. They figure that if they just put a guitar there, I'm bound to play it.

    Lol.

    Laughed SO hard...

    Top form, McCartney!!

(I'd be one of the screamers...-sigh-)

  • you are my sunshine oops i was wrong

  • The only person I've ever seen call Johnny Carson, "John". I'm sure it was force of habit..

  • Lots of stars called him John; in fact, Angie Dickinson-who Johnnie had a crush on-called him only John just to goad him.

  • not the right place to be asking that.

comments not questions. no one on youtube gives a god damn

  • Sir Paul is THE MAN, and Johnny Carson is the OTHER MAN. Equally brilliant in his chosen field of work.

  • I may be biased as an Englishman but Paul McCartney has more talent in his pinky than Johnny Carson or any US talk show host has in their entire ancestry.

  • You're not biased. You're exactly right!

  • they just do different things, it looks easy what carson does, but many many have tried and failed, sure talking is not really a talent, like song writing(huge fan of beatles), so i suppose it depends on definition, but imagine paul getting intimate exposure for 1.5 hours every night, for 15-20 years!people eventually would get bored, carson's magic is he makes his guests comfrtable and makes them look good and interesting, even when they're not...totally diff endeavors....

  • I agree, they're both at the top of their profession (or were) in the whole history of mankind. But neither one could tie Tiger Woods golf shoe when it comes to fairways and one putts...so what are we sayin' here...?

  • well, that's like comparing apples to shit. Macc was the BEST at what he did. I don't think he could have interviewed the variety of guests like Carson did.

  • @ianwilson2007: You're not biased, you're just stupid. Johnny Carson was a talk show host. Paul McCartney is a singer. Johnny told jokes and interviewed people. Paul played bass guitar and writes songs. Do you not understand that they are two completely different kinds of entertainers? Comparing musicians with comedians is probably the dumbest thing I can think of. It's like comparing chefs with carpenters.

  • @ianwilson2007 Much as I love Paul McCartney, and I do, your statement is just plain bollocks, mate. Johnny Carson ruled late night TV for 30 years and was universally loved in this country (USA) He was tremendously influential in the lives of dozens of top comic stars who got their start or became famous on "The Tonight Show." It's an apples and oranges comparison. Johnny was a TV great host, and Paul is a great singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Look up "Johnny's last TV appearance."

  • @ianwilson2007 In one respect, yes, but you're comparing apples and oranges. Johnny was a comedian/show host; Paul a musician/songwriter. Johnny was also a drummer (how good, I don't know).

  • Paul, John and George were 5'11" in the 60's. No way is Paul 5'3 or 5'4 now. What are you basing that on?

  • gee let me type out all the chords and go into GREAT detail on the fingerings and everything, all in this one youtube comment which is limited in characters, just so I can tell you something anyone with half a brain can figure out themselves by searching for precious tabs on google!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    -_-

  • michael jackson owns his songs.

  • Michael Jackson owns half The Beatles' songs, along with Sony. He doesn't own Paul's solo songs.

  • no he does not.

  • That was pretty rude. Did you really need to call me out on that?

And are you sure you don't mean that YOU don't care? If you don't, that's fine, but unfortunately you can't speak for the millions of users on youtube.

  • The story I heard was that they stuck a RIGHT handed guitar behind Paul! Nobody remembered that Paul is a lefty!

  • I was wondering/thinking about that when Johnny mentioned it at the beginning. Idiots! Effing ignorant idiots!

  • Nope, it's a left-handed guitar. And he's playing left-handed.

  • Thanks for putting this up !!! (-:

  • Paul really should have done a song. Heck, it only would have taken a couple minutes. I remember seeing this and it was obvious we were all waiting for a real song.

  • Never understood that myself. I back most of what he does but I think probably they were doing this on all his appearances when he told them no performance. An exception I am sure he would make today. Ed

  • He's a musician. Not a monkey.

  • They didn't ask him to eat a banana. They ask him to play because he is a musician. Ed

  • They didn't just "ask" him to play, they put him on the spot.

And besides, one Paul McCartney live song costs a lot.

"If you're good at something, don't do it for free." - Joker, The Dark Knight

Stock brokers don't give out free tips: Paul McCartney shouldn't have to play free songs on demand.

  • Paul can be such a nerd at times, LOL. He is such a sweet baby, my favorite Beatle and perforomer

  • I can't be more agree with you ,he is my favorite Beatle, and he is a charmin person, never met him ,but i know people who did it ,and say he is so charming and simple person....

  • Can't believe I've never seen this before. Thanks!

    joan

  • July, 1984, I taped it too.

  • Paul's famous sense of humor and Johnny Carson's talent= greatness.

    Great interview, many thanks, rachcc4!

  • Do ou have the opening and monolouge?

  • No, sorry. I only taped the parts with Paul.

  • Wow! 1989?

  • More like 1984.
