No, they don't fall into the abyss in the second book, it's in the third one. Why would they kill off Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter in the second one, and make a third one. By the way, Lyra finds out she's Lord Asriel's daughter when she's with the gyptians. She does have a fight with him at the end of the first one about hi not telling her she was his daughter, but Lord Asriel doesn't tell her that. And it's not a segregation centre, stupid.

The second scene (when Coulter and Asriel) Kiss is not from Amber spyglass but from Northen Lights (Book) and will be from the Subtle Knife (Movie). It's just when Asriel opens a window to Cittagazze through the Aurora and tells Marisa to follow him.

Unfortunatley it seems like they aren't: because of low budget intake from the Golden Compass, they weren't able to make the Subtle Knife, let alone the Amber Spyglass (of course) The other thing is, it would be harder for the cast, because Dakota Scott, who played Lyra, is now (I'm not sure) 14/15/16, and it would be incredibly hard for New Line to find a girl similiar to Dakota, no matter how much make up and special FX they do. But it would be amazing.

I think #2 is actually the ending of Northern Lights. I believe they shot the scenes of the original ending but decided to leave those bits to be in the begin of the 2nd film to 1: have more of a happy ending 2: give Daniel Craig some screentime in Subtl knife

Honestly, now that I've read the Northern Lights, I think they've only used the bones of the story for the movie. Which is kind of frustrating - I wish they'd gone into a little more depth because you didn't really get the binding connection between the humans and their daemons in the movie; I think that's kind of important. Still, not a bad effort, and it definitely inspired me enough to hunt down the books (never heard of them before the movie). READ THE BOOKS!! Yay!

Some of them were only included in trailers, since New Line made a last minute decision of cutting out the last 3 chapters of The Golden Compass. no, i don't think so. the correct ending was changed (as i've known) because it was too long, or media critics or producers (i think so) say there are already too much plot changes & climaces in the movie, AND the title is GOLDEN COMPASS & not NORTHERN LIGHTS so the Cittagaze part was taken out & they changed half of the movie..to change the story focusing mainly to the alethiometer.

it was only an hour and a half long. and actually the original title IS called The Northern Lights. and the original ending happens with Lyra and Pan walking into Cittagaze from their world. she falls when cliff ghasts attack Scoresby's balloon. all of these scenes are thrown out of the original perspective and completely ruined the movie. I know it all can't be the same, but seriously, its like they cut the book to pieces and remade it to fit their own story, which is bullshit.

actually, all of them are from the first book. The kiss is from the opening of the sky and the third is from when she falls out of Lees balloon basket. The first and second clip are both from the same clip. They ARE from the first book and are from one of the trailers of the Golden Compass. I believe they cut the last scene when Lord Asriel opens up the sky because they wanted the movie to end in a way that would be somewhat emotionally satisfying if they wouldn't make the other two.

they won't make their descion untill they get the money from DVD sales etc. but some good reasons on why they will make it is because the budget will be lower, they have already make the daemons which cuts $30 million out and also the $8 million used in the scene that was cut nd is being used for the 2nd movie. so it will be a much lower budget
