hi ive been playing acoustic for about a month now and so far the best songs i can play are johnny b goode and computerman and i love it and even though ive found parts ridiculously tricky ive got past them with hours and hours and hours of practice each day, so by summer i wanna get an electric guitar. sooo around 6 months, do you think this guitar will be good for my standard or will it be too much, ive played squiers before and i just hate them so i dont wanna get something crappy and cheap
@Adriel2112 I think I used the AC30 model, with the gain around 4 and the main volume full up. Not sure about the others - probably something like treble/mid @ 6 and the bass around 4, effects off. --Mike
Great playing and beautiful guitar im gonna buy the same guitar , thats a standart epiphone sg 400 right ? did you make any changes on pickups or something ??
My parents said I can get a new amp for Christmas and they said the most they are willing to spend is 200 and I'm willing to spend 100 so I need someones opinion on what I should get. I saw the Fender Frontman 65R 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp and looks pretty good and it's 200 so i wont have to spend a thing. You think I should get that or is there something else better I can get?
@dclaver2 I'm in the exact same position, but i wouldn't for for the Fender Frontman if you want distortion, and if you don't feel like buying a pedal.I'd say you should go for the Vox VT30 It's a really nice amp that has tons of cool affects. You can also change the voltage output of the amp, so if you want to play quietly, you can still get that tone you get when you crank your amp to top volume.. .It's 270ish at Guitar Center, but it includes a 50$ rebate.
well i have a boss ME-50 so i want to know what would be a good amp with distortion going into it, and a good clean sound because i play a lot of songs with clean sound.
I have the fender frontman 212R, it's the same like the 65R but mine has got 100w, its a very good amp y recomend to you, I'm spanish so, sorry my english ;)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@dclaver2 i dont know if its too late, but if you still have money to buy an amp, id buy a Line 6 Spider. they are really good for practicing, but they dont have the best tone in the world. if you are a gigging musician, buy a marshall combo amp. they are pretty loud and have nice tone and theyre not too expensive.
I saw a store with an Epiphone SG for 90 bucks, I think i'm gonna get it, I don't play guitar too much or too well, but I think I'll get it and let the guitarist of my band borrow it, because he's learning slide and I've heard and read its good for slide.
2008 AND 2009 Epiphone G-400 62 are Gibson USA Authorized SG's.
1.Grover 12 to 1 machine heads.
2.Gibson designed humbucker pu's with Alnico 5 magnets.
3.locking tune o matic bridge and stop tail bar the same one used on Gibson SG's.
4.heavy duty tone and volume pots 500's also the same ones used on the Gibson SG's.
5. there also hand crafted but in china to me i dont give a shit were its crafted just as long it has highend hardware and it does. craftmanship is A+ Gibson will stop soon.
2007 was the year that Epiphone/Gibson put all that highend hardware on the Epiphone G-400 62 SG. i know the tune o matic bridge and stop tair bar and the heavy duty 500's tone and volume pots are the same exact hardware you will find on most of your Gibson SG's.
Dude what does Angus young do? REPEATS IDEAS AND TWEAKS THEM. I will say there needs to be more feeling and more practice but you must admit that it is pretty ok, right?
lots of the bends are flat and sound awful, repating the same thing over and over without much variation ISNT what angus does. its not a bad sarting point but it needs a lot more work. Listen to my "blueday"
Ok I only read your thingy while I was a fourth of the way thru and now I totally agree with what you wrote sorry about the mis-um whatever the word is.....
Great blues sound!...I have the same amp and just bought (but awaiting delivery) the Epi SG400....main reason I bought it was I cant seem to get the Angus Young sound right on my tele or strat....I am only 6 months or so in but really serious about my practice...just about learnt "you shook me all night long"...any recommendations for settings for this one? as Angus didnt use much effects except a little delay and reverb from what I read up.
Thanks - I think you'll find the SG will get you a lot closer to that sound than a Strat or Tele will (although I've found that Teles are really versatile and can mimic other guitars pretty well). Still, the SG is a big part of it.
I'd start with one of the models in the AC30 to 80's Marshall range, with the gain in the 40% to 50% range and EQs mediumish and just go from there. Don't go nuts with the gain too quickly - the sound you're looking for is med. clean, with some grit sitting on top.
i've got a g-400 that i took apart but i never liked the tone i got from it, i had a shitty solid state amp at the time though, you make it sound good, now i wish i hadnt taken it apart
I have this guitar too and even if it doesnt sound that bad.. Its just unplayable to me :( The neck is waaay to thick for my hands... sustain is pretty low too. I bought a Gibson special faded sg after this epiphone. Well.. for 250€ more than the epi's I got a 10 times better guitar... the gibson's just totally different.. sounds pretty better, is way lighter and has a great playability. So my advice to anyone is: save a bit more and get a gibson special faded, dont waste 300 € for the Epi
Well, the Epiphone's price is almost the same as the one here in Italy, Gibson's are a little bit cheaper, since I bought my special faded for 550€ and usually see them at about 600 €... don't forget special faded sg's and standard sg's are kind of different guitars, specially in the quality level... if you're talking about standard sg's they're at about 1100 € here too...
Hmm... sounds good... but then again it sounds lucky... lucky to play the harmonies the right time... how long have you been playing? I don't mean to be rude...
Do you really lack that much of a life? Seriously, dude, no offense, but when I was 22, I had a lot more to do on a Saturday evening than post misspelled insults. But hey, whatever works for you, I guess.
Thanks - the strings are whatever came with the guitar - they feel like 10s, so I assume it's around a .10 -.48 set. Amp is on the AC30 model with gain and EQs all around 50% up, I think. It's been a year since I put the video, but it's a really basic setup - nothing tricky.
Thanks - actually, I do have one - a beautifully beaten-up faded-to-yellow '87 Custom with a mid-70's Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge - it's very Randy Rhoads.
Well i would but i already have an american strat which is the best guitar ive played, and am saving up for a mac to mess round recording shit, in the future i will tho, but for now i only have the one guitar, my strat ;), so i would like a back-up most likely this guitar, i know they are good cos they have one at college which i use from time to time.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and post a comment. I know that some people would read your comment and think that it was posted by someone without much else to do, indicating little to no social - or other - life. I'm sure that's not the case, so we all eagerly await your videos so that we can comment appropriately.
Or perhaps yours was an ironic comment in line with the "Blues Hammer" reference in my info posting for the video. Let us know...
Yeah, I've got the same amp as you and will probably being buying a G-400 pretty quickly here. I play a little more along the lines of GNR style rock though.
The G400 is my favorite Epiphone of the three I have. I checked out your video - the one with the Ibanez, I think it was - it sounds great when you kick in the wah about 3/4 of the way through. Is that running through the Vox?
Yeah, I have it running through my Cry Baby, to a Tonebone Hot British and then into my Vox set to Blackface. I can't wait to try it with the SG, get more of a rock sound.
Hi there, my son wants a G400 and I have to ask (although I think I know the answer already) the g400 would piss all over the sg310 for several reasons, neck joint and mahogany being the the obvious ones, would you agree?
The 310 is alder, and the 400 is mahogany, and yeah, that's going to make a big difference in the overall sound. If the 310 is a bolt-on neck, then yes, it's going to sound different than the 400. My guess is that the 400 is going to sound thinner and have more bite than the 310. There are a few reviews on YouTube, so that might give you a better idea of the overall sound. I like the G400 I have quite a bit!
Thanks for that, I have seen a demo of the yamaha sg2000 which is solid mahog and although it's not everyones cup of tea it certainly hangs on to the notes for a looooong time so mahog is the way to go as you say. I think we may have to go hard and buy the 400. it's only $800 New Zealand dollars so what the hell.
hey thanks for that, I will probably get one from our local rockshop here in Christchurch as it would be good to support the local guy, we bought some gear from him at Christams time so he may even throw us a deal.
hey at guitar center they had an Epiphone SG just like this. it had the bars on the fretboard instead of dots. and the neck wasn't bolted on. the only thing different was the neck wasn't so thick and the black pick guard went all the way to the top of the body..what guitar was this?
im gettin one today!! YEAH!!!! im SOOOOO excited!!! i played it last night in the store and it was BEAUTIFUL. i was originally gonna get a les paul, but i dont have enough money for one that i like, so im just get another SG. the one i have right now SUCKS. hahaha
I have one for now a year and it has never let me down. It a great guitar to almost every knid of music. The only think is that the neck is soooo heavy... its keeps falling down if I let go of it.
off course you could buy one. i once compared a epiphone sg-400 with a gibson sg standart and both sound nearly the same. maybe the gibson had a bit more sustain, but thats dispensable, because you would pay about 350€ for the epiphone and 1200€ for the gibson.
Im getting one of these used. Its in amazing condition; It must have been taken really good care of. Its only $399 =] PLUS its one of the last Korean made ones, so it is AMAZING quality
wooahhh how are those ones?? my ones china made, sounds alright the only thing that pisses me off abt it is it gets outta tune sometimes and theres fret buzz BUUT u can adjust ther bridge anyway LOOOL... SGs are sexy
ive been guitar now for 2 years and its time i think i got a new one.i think this is the one i wil bye. would you recommend it for intermediate players? and does it have a good tone for pop/punk/alternative rock? also ive heard the neck drops when you let go of it, is that a big problem? thnx so much!

Wtf lad so what he is not trying to be any of them he might play the blues because he likes it
biglynchy92 3 years ago
Could maybe use a little reverb or delay. Other than that, it sounds great.
RGPlayer87 3 years ago
Thanks - I'm not a huge fan of reverbed blues guitar, but yeah, I hear what you're saying. My recording is pretty dry. -Mike
mikec717 3 years ago
Yeah, I've got the same amp as you and will probably being buying a G-400 pretty quickly here. I play a little more along the lines of GNR style rock though.
RGPlayer87 3 years ago
The G400 is my favorite Epiphone of the three I have. I checked out your video - the one with the Ibanez, I think it was - it sounds great when you kick in the wah about 3/4 of the way through. Is that running through the Vox?
mikec717 3 years ago
Yeah, I have it running through my Cry Baby, to a Tonebone Hot British and then into my Vox set to Blackface. I can't wait to try it with the SG, get more of a rock sound.
RGPlayer87 3 years ago
Hi there, my son wants a G400 and I have to ask (although I think I know the answer already) the g400 would piss all over the sg310 for several reasons, neck joint and mahogany being the the obvious ones, would you agree?
timj41 3 years ago
The 310 is alder, and the 400 is mahogany, and yeah, that's going to make a big difference in the overall sound. If the 310 is a bolt-on neck, then yes, it's going to sound different than the 400. My guess is that the 400 is going to sound thinner and have more bite than the 310. There are a few reviews on YouTube, so that might give you a better idea of the overall sound. I like the G400 I have quite a bit!
mikec717 3 years ago
Thanks for that, I have seen a demo of the yamaha sg2000 which is solid mahog and although it's not everyones cup of tea it certainly hangs on to the notes for a looooong time so mahog is the way to go as you say. I think we may have to go hard and buy the 400. it's only $800 New Zealand dollars so what the hell.
timj41 3 years ago
timj41, If you havent bought one already, get someone to buy and send it over from here in oz. They sell for about $600 over here.
racingtadpole01 3 years ago
hey thanks for that, I will probably get one from our local rockshop here in Christchurch as it would be good to support the local guy, we bought some gear from him at Christams time so he may even throw us a deal.
timj41 3 years ago
Yeah, I hear you mate. Support your local.

hey at guitar center they had an Epiphone SG just like this. it had the bars on the fretboard instead of dots. and the neck wasn't bolted on. the only thing different was the neck wasn't so thick and the black pick guard went all the way to the top of the body..what guitar was this?

I have one for now a year and it has never let me down. It a great guitar to almost every knid of music. The only think is that the neck is soooo heavy... its keeps falling down if I let go of it.

oh ok thanks

do u think this epiphone sg is for beginners only, because i play for 8 years and i really wanna buy this guitar and i dont know if i should.
great job btw!
rockerhot 3 years ago
off course you could buy one. i once compared a epiphone sg-400 with a gibson sg standart and both sound nearly the same. maybe the gibson had a bit more sustain, but thats dispensable, because you would pay about 350€ for the epiphone and 1200€ for the gibson.

whats better, the epiphone sg 400 or the axl jacknife?

ive been guitar now for 2 years and its time i think i got a new one.i think this is the one i wil bye. would you recommend it for intermediate players? and does it have a good tone for pop/punk/alternative rock? also ive heard the neck drops when you let go of it, is that a big problem? thnx so much!
