hmmm no napping? I live in Japan and everyone naps here. Nap on the train to work, nap for 15 minutes on a lunch. Lots of quick naps. Western medicine and the thoughts of one man have done a lot. But discussing sleep without reading in bed? Seriously man? Puts me to sleep. Napping is great, kennedy did it and was a great president! Japanese live longer they take small sleep cycles...seriously around 5-6 hours a night on average. make up for it in naps

My brother told me I stop breathing when I fall asleep in front of the TV in my recliner.
So I went on the two sleep apnea forums and educated myself. Then I went on some auction sites and bought a CPAP machine (yeah with a perscription, ahem) Then I tried to use it (you need the right mask for your face) Back to the auction sites, got a lot of em and finally found one that works. Now I don't wake up tired feeling like I have been holding my breath till I pass out repeatedly all night.
i stay up to about 12-4 am every night and i wake up at 6:30 on weekdays and around 9-10 on weekend. i know i have chronic lack of sleep cuz when i look at carpet or certain things they start moving and flowing. i honestly like it and it helps me get to sleep instantly when i want to but when im up and about im not really tired at all cuz i get into the mental state of being awake.
you forgot the most important thing to do before we close our eyes & sleep and that is to pray and talk to God, examine our days, and what we did right and what we did wrong, to ask forgiveness for, to thank God for His provisions and protection of us and our families, to acknowledge God as our creator, Father & redeemer through His Son Jesus Christ & also to ask Our Lord for things we need in this life. Let's get back to God in our lives because without Him we have all gotten worse in life.

This is an awesome video! I am a prime example of sleep deprivation causing weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, panic attacks and other health problems. I slept about an average of four hours a night for a number of years due to undue work stress. I ended up having to resign from my job and I have been out of work for a while now. The amazing thing is that I have been getting more sleep every night and my blood pressure hovers around 125/60. My blood sugar has gone down too.

@sebastianjwalker . You keep doing that and you will suffer from major illnesses. Try to get some help from a doctor for sleep if you can't fall asleep and/or stay asleep. Follow Dr. Hyman's advice on this video. He definitely knows what he is talking about. Sleep is incredibly important and is unfortunately thrown to the wayside in this society. I know from first hand experience what severe lack of sleep can do to a person, and it is horrifying. Get some help for sleep and take care.
I've been having sleep problems and I'm trying to figure out the cause. I've noticed everytime I'm on a diet I can't stay asleep and end up sleeping 4-5 hours. Is it because I'm not eating enough food? Or is there another cause?

I nay have stayed up late and messed with my sleep cycle, but I could always sleep for 10-12 hours at a time to make up for lost sleep. I never suffered from insomnia problems like I have as I have gotten older. Most people I know over 30 say they rarely wake up feeling refreshed regularly like they did when they were younger.

i heard that stuff can be kinda serious. you might have some type of infection and eventually will need a transplant if not looked at. or you might just have a weak bladder. its worth spending $40 to $50 to talk to a doc in person if your problem bothers you.

Oh, that's a good one. The recommendations I've received are to eliminate sugar, caffeine and alcohol from your diet. Cuts down on hot flashes too. Also, exercise is extremely important.
I sleep at an average of 7-8 hours, and I never get breakouts or pimples in my face. I am slim and always feel lively during the day. Once I had allnighter for 3 days, I couldn't go through the following day without bobbing my head and falling asleep. I kept dozing off and couldn't even remember half of the things I did during the day and felt so fatiqued, without doing anything!

My mom got diagnosed with sleep apnea. She had to use this noisy machine with a mask to put on her face and probably slept worse than normal. Do you even know what cortisol is? Cortisol levelsl rise when the human body subjects itself to stress. I think sleep deprivation is surely a form of stress. Cortisol increases fat (especially abdominal fat) and catabolizes muscle tissue to create glucose.
cortisol does not increase fat. it has been shown to inhibit lypolosis, or the break down of fat. plus, there are quite a few more hormones that affect that, such as insulin. i have never said sleep was not good, it is important to anyone becaue that is the anabolic recovery time, i just said sleep is not the answer to weight loss. oh, and i cant disregard hormonal factors, that IS exercise physiology
Sleep is PART of the answer to weight loss. It's diet, exercise, and REST.
Oh, and for some people, sleep might just be the answer. Let them get an extra 3 hours of shuteye, so they can stop stuffing themselves with food. The average American wouldn't be hurt by getting an extra hour of sleep.

he says it is more important to get a good night's sleep than exercise and a good diet... if you do get enough sleep you will probably stop having weight probs if you got any to start with... of course it's good to have a good diet and to exercise... he just emphasizes on what is even more important: sleep. it wont be unhealthy if you do exercise regularly and have a good diet. yoga is a very good way to relax in the evening. i just started taking yoga courses and it's amazing!

Oh, that's a good one. The recommendations I've received are to eliminate sugar, caffeine and alcohol from your diet. Cuts down on hot flashes too. Also, exercise is extremely important.

Thanks for posting this video. I've been having trouble sleeping and I will try some of the tips you provided.
I found that it helps to understand that you won't fall asleep RIGHT away, accept that it takes a few minutes.

I sleep at an average of 7-8 hours, and I never get breakouts or pimples in my face. I am slim and always feel lively during the day. Once I had allnighter for 3 days, I couldn't go through the following day without bobbing my head and falling asleep. I kept dozing off and couldn't even remember half of the things I did during the day and felt so fatiqued, without doing anything!

I vote for the hoodia products too but I use the site, Ultra-Herb dot com, because it has all of the hoodia weight loss products and HGH, skin care, hair growth etc. As far as hoodia, Hoodia Chaser is the fastest acting.

My mom got diagnosed with sleep apnea. She had to use this noisy machine with a mask to put on her face and probably slept worse than normal. She finally decided to hell with it when she woke up with a bruised eye from the tube of the device. Of course people have been saying this is serious so you should probably care something about it.

Yes I know how to "loose" (Spell it right, it's lose, not loose) and gain fat/muscle. The myth of a calorie being a calorie is outright ridiculous. Fat has 3500 calories per pound, yet most idiots like you forget that muscle also has 600 calories per pound, and the body will gladly rob muscle tissue of its protein reserves.
Now go stick to your 3 hours of slow, boring catabolic cardio on the treadmill.

actually, it is 2500 calories for muscle. and yes, if after a prolonged enough time, the body will switch to protein metabolism rather than fat as a means of survival. a calorie is a unit of measurement for heat,

Oh, and if you are disregarding the numerous studies done on animals who have GAINED weight, despite a caloric-deficit, then you need to reevaluate what you've learned about cortisol. Don't give me the "it can't carry over to humans" stuff. I've seen it happen too many times to deny it.

wow. I love it how these people who have "masters" in exercise physiology and nutritional sciences totally disregard the hormonal factors when it comes to body recomposition. Do you even know what cortisol is? Cortisol levelsl rise when the human body subjects itself to stress. I think sleep deprivation is surely a form of stress. Cortisol increases fat (especially abdominal fat) and catabolizes muscle tissue to create glucose.

cortisol does not increase fat. it has been shown to inhibit lypolosis, or the break down of fat. plus, there are quite a few more hormones that affect that, such as insulin. i have never said sleep was not good, it is important to anyone becaue that is the anabolic recovery time, i just said sleep is not the answer to weight loss. oh, and i cant disregard hormonal factors, that IS exercise physiology

Sleep is PART of the answer to weight loss. It's diet, exercise, and REST.
Oh, and for some people, sleep might just be the answer. Let them get an extra 3 hours of shuteye, so they can stop stuffing themselves with food. The average American wouldn't be hurt by getting an extra hour of sleep.

look, man, i never said sleep was not PART of the answer. it does play its part, it is where any and all anabolic activity takes place. however, to believe that getting more sleep will CAUSE you to start loosing weight is a ridiculous claim. weight loss only happens with a negative energy balance, plain and simple, no if's, ands', or but's. that was my orriginal response to this video.

this man is a HACK!!!! the ONLY way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. this can be done through diet and propper exercise, not more sleep. true, you burn more fat asleep then awake, but that is beccause your energy substrate changes. getting sleep will NOT make you loose weight. i would like to see this man's degree.
