Keep on going your exellent report, i watched pretty much everyone of them, it is sad that sometime you are beeing pushed away, the galleries are closing but you have facilitate so many time for them a new window on the internet. You are a very interviewer, and your guest should be gratefull to you.Canada N.Brunswick
Well I don't live in NYC, but I hate to see any art gallery anywhere shut down. There are always artists involved no matter where. In Knoxville 5 or 6 galleries have closed in the past year or so and if you consider there were 11 galleries in the downtown (with one of those being a student gallery which is not open to just everyone) that makes us down to the loss of about 50%. In my opinion the loss of Three Flights Up Gallery was a very big blow to Knoxville's art scene.Tough times indeed!
wow mr. kalm, good morning to you too. Is Feature really done? Lots of losses everywhere, this doesn't surprise me, but it is quite sad in our niche. getting a show just got a lot harder and the rents are still pretty high. tough times.............new york is still a great place to make fuckin' art.........go mr. kalm, go!
Salander didn't close because of the recession...

the market was over saturated + too many mediocre artists. + in a bad economy who is going buy ART at over inflated prices?
e.g., a gallery like Feature specialized in a lame any-body-can-do-it abstract painting.
ok, some of it was decent work. but great art? hardly. even when times are flush how many people are going to pay top dollar for that sort of thing?
as Andy Warhol said" Art is anyhing you can get away with"..........

That's a lot of closings, too much IMO, but the problem is larger than the artworld, this whole country is going down.
Why are we not marching on DC for change?
