Cromartie needs to learn how to be more physical when going one on one and learn how to tackle better. It'll take more than just speed and athleticism to win. Maybe if Brandon Hughes were to come in at times and is actually successful with the bump and run, he could teach Cromartie a thing or two.
You're on crack. Weddle can cover so much better than Ellison it's not even funny. Just because a guy can hit hard, it doesn't make him a good safety. I'm excited to have him as a Charger, but he needs to improve a ton in coverage if he wants to eventually become a starter.
First of all SD's coverage as a whole isnt that good so weddle isnt even that good. Hes better in our nickel and dime packages but as a starter i dunno, hes decent at coverage but cant tackle worth a damn
Of course our coverage isn't very good. Making Ellison a starter would make it even worse. Weddle is a much better cover safety than Ellison, but Weddle isn't even that great at it. I wouldn't mind seeing Ellison in at ILB in coverage situations though. I think he would be perfect at that. I don't think he'll be a bad player in the NFL, but he definitely has to improve in coverage to become a solid NFL safety.
i gotta just step in here real quick and state the fact that Weddle led our team in tackles last year so he can definitely tackle. Am i a weddle fan? no. Is he the best safety on the team? probly. i have to agree with dmilesai there is no way ellison steps in as a starter his rookie year barring injuries.

yeah i thought ellison was just as good or even a better player than taylor mays, not neccasarily a better physical speciman but he just seemed to be in on every play when he was healthy at sc

They're both hard-hitters. I don't necessarily think he's better than Mays. I do think this kid's a steal (drafted in what, the 7th round)? Might be the best SC player to come out this year.

so.. Who would be the favorable USC defensive man to be hit by.. the Tall, Big, and Faster Taylor Mays? or the Big and fast Kevin Ellison? the Huge, not so fast but still pretty damn fast Maualuga? or the Big, Fast, and Methodical Brian Cushing? i think every single Offensive player that touched the ball playing against USC those years was sweating balls with that exact question in mind.

Actually, I think Ellison had the slowest 40 at the combine out of all the guys you mentioned. That is why he was drafted so low.

All I gotta say is... Longshore must've pissed his pants.. as soon as the ball was snapped and he took his steps back.. he sees that Huge #58 with nothing in between them. That's gotta be the scariest sight in the world..

ellison will take hart's starting job this season. he will be the run stopper at SS and weddle will cover people at FS.

fuck no!.. eric weddle is one of our best draft picks as of late.. that guy is a stud he was hustling all season. as for the SS spot i agree 100% clinton hart is getting old i think his best days are behind him. Gregory isn't much of a safety more like a special teams kinda guy.. i think elison should give em a run for there money at SS hughes should be given a go at that position too and maybe even wapamo Osaisai.. goo chargers!

We should have paid Jermaine Phillips when he visited us. We didn't offer him a legit amount. But I would love to see Hart lose his job to Ellison.

Cromartie needs to learn how to be more physical when going one on one and learn how to tackle better. It'll take more than just speed and athleticism to win. Maybe if Brandon Hughes were to come in at times and is actually successful with the bump and run, he could teach Cromartie a thing or two.

You're on crack. Weddle can cover so much better than Ellison it's not even funny. Just because a guy can hit hard, it doesn't make him a good safety. I'm excited to have him as a Charger, but he needs to improve a ton in coverage if he wants to eventually become a starter.

First of all SD's coverage as a whole isnt that good so weddle isnt even that good. Hes better in our nickel and dime packages but as a starter i dunno, hes decent at coverage but cant tackle worth a damn

Of course our coverage isn't very good. Making Ellison a starter would make it even worse. Weddle is a much better cover safety than Ellison, but Weddle isn't even that great at it. I wouldn't mind seeing Ellison in at ILB in coverage situations though. I think he would be perfect at that. I don't think he'll be a bad player in the NFL, but he definitely has to improve in coverage to become a solid NFL safety.

i gotta just step in here real quick and state the fact that Weddle led our team in tackles last year so he can definitely tackle. Am i a weddle fan? no. Is he the best safety on the team? probly. i have to agree with dmilesai there is no way ellison steps in as a starter his rookie year barring injuries.

Incredible this guy went in the 6th round. What a steal! One of the steals of the draft in my opinion. Yea, his "speed" is measured to be on the low end, but his instincts and positioning make up for short comings in speed.
