  • Great video. Really useful. Thanks for posting.

  • At least i got to learn something new about Excel :)

  • Hey thanks for such a quick response. yea i knew MS Project was the program to do it, but i was having issues with getting it from my school. I was trying to find alternative options to get my homework done. But i was just now able to get MS Project. Thanks for the help!!

  • how do i make a network diagram of the gantt chart?

  • Hi @simia85 - Excel is not the tool to use for a network diagram. MS Project would probably be better as it will do both Gantt and network diagram for you. You can do network diagrams in PowerPoint - check my channel for a "How To" video on this. E.

  • Thank you!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • thank's a lot! you saved my life!

  • @edsherojay23 No, it's not.

  • They're always after me lucky charms!

  • Do you know where I can find how to make a gantt chart on a mac? (with excel 2010)

  • @TheBeliever97 Sorry no - I have not used a Mac in over 20 years!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Thank you. Very useful.

  • Useful? Dude, this is WONDERFUL! PERFECT way to lay out the semester. Thank YOU for making this available! Love & Respect from USA to our beloved neighbors in Ireland!

  • very good

  • Great video! Thank you so so much!

  • This has really helped just an issue- the two colours of the bars have not turned up, there is no red just blue :(

  • @jessminaaa I'm guessing this is happening at about the 2.00 minute mark of the video? When you select the "Duration" does this appear on the chart? It might look like the bars have been extended - if this is the case you should be able to right click on the extended bits and under the "Format" option you should be able to change to another colour. One other possibility - your data range on the horizontal axis might be so long, that small durations may be very difficult to see. Hope this helps.

  • Great introductory video. Exactly what I needed to finish my report. Thank you!

  • thank goddddddddddddddd u save my life!!!!!

  • FUCKING ACCENTS!!!

  • Thanks alot this help me to pass my assessment Task :D

  • thanks ^_^ this really helped me alot

  • This is extremely useful. I was able to throw together something on short notice which filled my needs and looked professional, thanks to your clear, instructive style. You have an excellent approach for showing step by step how to achieve the end product. Your red disk around your cursor was also hugely useful!

  • Very Helpful, thanks a lot.

  • fantastic explanation...brief and comprehensive...you really helped add something great to my research~

  • this was very helpful. I had to create one of these for a first year engineering project but we were never taught what it even is. This video allowed me to do it in about 15 minutes and it is nice to know that a real professor deems it to be acceptable :) thanks!

  • Very Helpful, Thank You.

  • Thanks a ton...Subbed to you..

  • Great video - so helpful. Is there any way to easily change the horizontal axis to months?

  • @RubyRastaful First - thanks for watching my video and for your kind comment. You can change the format of your dates in the spreadsheet (select all dates-right click-Format Cells-choose type) by showing month only. This shows up as J for January, F for February, and so on. Your Gantt chart will automatically update to just show a letter for each date. Hope this helps. E.

  • @eoloughlin Thanks for your response. The dates I am using are specific days (i.e. 6/06/2011), however I would like the horizontal axis to be divided up according to month. When I try to format the date cells as you suggested there is no option to show month only. I also can't use the Major Unit in the axis options as months have diff days. I'm not sure I'm explaining this very well sorry. My chart will work regardless, but we group our data according to month so it would be easier to use.

  • Thanks, you saved me countless hours of pouring over instructions to accomplish this!

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you for your precious time. it really helped me alot. Thank you very much.

  • Thank you for this, saved me for this assignment!

  • This is great. A very useful 6 minutes! Thanks for taking the time to create and post it.

  • hi i found this very useful but i am having the same problem as @cuthberts11 regarding the dates. mine are also appearing on top of each other even though i have followed the steps minimum and major unit. please help

  • @vassan08 The simplest way to resolve this is to make the chart wider. Click on the edge of the chart and drag it to the right or left until the days no longer overlap. Hope this works. E.

  • How do you label the dates if your gantt chart runs for over one year?

  • @LeroyJenkins4444 Each date, no matter what the year, still has a unique number. In my video all the dates are from 2009. The Chart should be able to handle dates running for over a year.

However, if you have a lot of dates your chart will get very cluttered as Excel tries to display date labels for 52 weeks. You may need to display months rather than weeks - in this case change the "Major Unit" from 7 days to 28 days.

    Hope this works. E.

  • Extremely helpful!...thank you so much!...

  • Thanks was really stuck on how to create

  • useful idea, but why didnt you just select the data first and then select the type of chart instead of vice versa. This could have saved you 3 minutes !

  • @kraskata2012 Thanks for watching my video and for the feedback. I generally try to show things step-by-step so that it is easy for everybody to understand.

  • @eoloughlin Ok, i get it :)

  • @eoloughlin it is inded makes is pretty easy and straight forward. using your tutorial I managed to create a gant chart for my Course work . God bless and Thank you.

  • Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I just need help with one thing please..when you formatted the dates (4:44 minutes into video) using format cells mine come up under 'general' as sample number 40752 as my earliest date was 28-Jul so when i formatted the dates on chart and typed in 40752 as minimum and 7 as major unit and pressed close,.my dates all ended up on top of one another. I tried using the number you said in movie but that didnt work either? Help please

  • Great help. Simple and straight to the point, the way we aussies like it. No boring B.S. Thank you

  • Big help. Thanks from Oz

  • thanks helps when you want to share the sheet on google docs..

  • Thank you good sir. A very informative and easy to follow video :)

  • Thanks very much, this was very helpful. I do have a question, if you don't mind: Why didn't you just highlight all the data and then click Insert-->Bar chart-->Stacked Bar? It automatically creates the chart for you with all of the information input into the x and y axis. It seems like it would have cut out a lot of the initial steps you demonstrate.

  • @nestingdollgirl Thanks for the tip. There are many ways to draw a Gantt Chart - mine is just one. When Microsoft bring out the next version of Office I'll be sure to try your idea. E.
