  • Phil Collins in a six minute long drum duet. Your argument is invalid.

  • Ca j'adore comme rythme je pratique un peu le djembé chez moi j'avais pris des cours et j'ai jun gros djembé à la maison

  • GOOD GOD...........

  • Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you supposed to play drums!!!

  • :)

  • I can't watch this too many times!

  • That being said it's still Friggin awesome over 30 years later.

  • They used to do this exact solo when he was behind the kit and Peter Gabriel was the REAL frontman of genesis of course it's perfect they haven't changed a thing since the 70s

  • 79 with Beeber Fever..

  • 79 people.....all blind, deaf, and daft.

  • Shame it sounds like it was recorded under water

  • Holy smokes! Those two were in The ZONE. MEsmerizing! Thanks for the upload.!

  • a brilliant solo from two brilliant drummers

  • Now that is a workout!!! I wish I could hv seen that live

  • @salonbelor i was there and it was great.. the best battle ive ever seen

  • This is by far the greatest drum solo/duet ever. It will never be eclipsed.

  • all the people who keep on dissing Phil for not playing and Chester because he is not famous should look. Phil is singing songs while Chester has to play the drum parts. That in itself is a feat because you have to be a pro to do that

  • Absolutely awesome!

  • Hello Phil,

Check out my band link below,

I have been a fan since the early 70's

check out what you (and others) have inspired.

......very sorry to hear about your playing status,

I would have loved to see you live.

    Boston MA

  • I am trying to find a Phil Collins - drum solo on a live event early 90er - it was within another song - and so brillantly done, that I am still searching for it. (I heard it on the radio in those days and could not record it)

Can anybody help? I have checked nearly videos here ... can't find it.

    Thanks a lot!

  • @rosa7182 During Touring Phil had always a drum solo during 'The West Side', but you've probably already found this:

    youtube.com/watch?v=cRFjOMrMxj4

  • @rosa7182

Chester and Phil did another drum duet at the beginning and in the middle of 'Colours' during the Serious Tour:

    youtube.com/watch?v=IycA_BG-j4w

  • @rosa7182

Maybe you've heard a live version of the song 'Fading Lights' from the Genesis Live Tour 1992? It's not quite a drum SOLO, but Phil does an excellent drum performance with Tony and Mike (starts at 03:50):

  • @Moliere999 Hi there, Moliere999 - thanks a lot for your efforts!!!

Meanwhile I have checked them all .... not sure which one it was. But thanks a lot anyway. Today I would say, this one - "Drum Duet" - the awesome one "is IT" - simply great!

    Happy New Year to you!

  • damn i wish i could play the drums like them

  • 3:18 phil goes tarzan on those drums

  • That's pretty easy but sounds so good!

  • 79 Peart's fans...

  • lol

  • lol I`m good looking babe

  • pretty averege drumming, but then again i despise drum solos.

  • What's to like? Drummers playing drums... Isn't that what they do for a job?

  • lol i will help you to feel like you are in heaven

  • no matter how many times I watch this ....It still blows me away

  • Cobus Potgieter and Jared Falk's drum duet was more interesting... :|

  • 79 Lars fans...

  • @Hicksx fuck you, lars is also pretty good.

  • omg...I think I just had a drumgasm!

  • Chester is an amazing drummer. check him out with Frank Zappa

  • I saw them both do this at Wembley in 1982 during Genesis Invisible Touch tour.

  • @brigham600 ooops, that should have been 1987.

  • And then it's time for Los Endos!! Simply amazing, breathtaking!

  • yaa ampun

  • Chester and Phil are pro's. 'Nuff said.

  • @BlueFox284 I think you have it nailed. I would go a bit farther and say that they can make the drums talk.

  • THIS IS AMAZINGG!! Just out of curiosity, is there a specific song for this if anyone knows? THANKS

  • @xXRoyTennisAcerXx

If I get your question right:

There are two albums for this tour: One for the "Shorts" and one for the "Longs". Have a look at the "Longs" album; there you can find this drum duet as a song :).

  • @DionysosFX it's weird they don't sell this album on iTunes for the U.S. but for UK. Weird

  • wow wat mooi

  • einfach geil

  • ...WOW...

  • 2 brilliant legends in there own right - best performance on drums ive ever seen

  • This duet is fantastic, but the one at Wembley on the Invisible Touch tour in 1987 tops it for me.

  • Genial!!!

  • hey guys enjoy my cover! "Behind the lines/Duchess cover by pino lettieri" or " Duke's travels cover by pino lettieri" or "Fading lights cover by pino lettieri" ENJOY

    pl

  • That final hit from Chester's solo gives me the chills :DDD

  • They hacked drummin'. Cheater.

  • Phil Collins taught Chuck Norris to play the drums

  • Phil bustin his arse and sweatin like a bitch, the other guy barely trying.... lol

  • whose that playing along phil collins? looks like ice-t

  • @astroboirap Chester Thompson :D

  • who was the bastard that disliked it?!?!?!

  • @xSpyMenx141 you have no idea what you are talking about..chester was just a session drummer, paid by the hour..not a part of genesis..phil collins, good drummer but just average..charlie chuck(google him) could drum him into the ground as it were..

A real dummer..Ginger baker..but then you are just a kid,so what would you know?

  • @richieaura You can't be serious.

  • @xSpyMenx141 .....uh....Ringo, of course (-;.

  • @cookymann hahahahaha thats a good one :D

  • I need a smoke after that!

  • hahahah collins looks soo high :D

  • can anyone tell me why Phil uses only the top drumhead? is it for better sound?

  • @eddyt18

Because you get more of the attack and less resonance so you can here the articulations better. They're called concert toms. Thompson used to use them too when he played with Zappa. When you go around the kit playing fast notes you here each drum distincly and it doesn't resonate into the next note. Less overtone basicaly.

  • GOD JIZZES HIMSELF EVERYTIME THIS VIDEO PLAYS

  • Hey, if anyone has the time, do you think you could check out my drum solo and tell me what you think, what needs work, etc.? Thank you.

  • 3:15 is cool

  • fuck this is awesome

  • chewing gum? is that what you are paying attention to? If you go to Hawaii, you are going to miss all the beauty of the place because "it is too hot".

  • "Eyes closed"..."chewing gum"? John Petrucci plays with his eyes open... B.B. King plays with his eyes closed. Does that make B.B. King the better guitar player? Does Petrucci maybe need a chewing gum to be as good... or does he have to stop looking concentrated? How you look is a matter of preference, not a skill measurement.

I guess I have to look more relaxed next time... and buy some chewing gum.

  • I want this drum set but unfortnatly it wont fit..anywhere in my building

  • Neil Peart would make these guys look silly, silly I say....

  • @TheKeating77 I absolutely love Neil Peart but he's great at playing the music of Rush were Chester Thompson resume includes stints in Weather Report and Frank Zappa which is complicated enough. Phil Collins can play rock fusion of Brand X, blues rock of Eric Clapton and even subbed in for Black Sabbath. I'm not saying that Neil is one dimensional but I only know his playing from Rush and Buddy Rich projects nothing really diverse.

  • @TheKeating77 Please stop with the fucking comparisons already!!!! My God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good, i mean, average...

  • Why is that Kieran Gaffney prick from Britain's Got Talent in the suggestions? I am truly disgusted.

  • eyes closed chewing gums....skillzs

  • AMAZING!

  • simply awesome !!

  • damn... as one person... shooooot!

  • Chester Thomson shits all over Phil Collins... I'd like to see Collins cope with playing some of the stuff Chester did with Zappa...

  • @mynameisLeevilbitch Some of the old Genesis stuff (like Peter Gabriel old) is very Zappa-esque. Phil was a pretty bad-ass drummer until he went to the dark side of bubble gum pop Disney songs. He had the ability to lay down a pretty fat groove, especially for a progressive rock dude. I'm not diminishing Chet, but Phil was no slouch back in the day.

  • @golferal These people who were flipping Chester off needed a taste of their own bullshit! Got respect for Genesis (in places) but I personally think Collins' finesty hour was his collaboration with The Ultimate Warrior on the US video for "two hearts"....

  • phil is flowed with the music but chester is verry tight with playing both are good

  • If ur a drummer u gotta know ur set left to right, up to down and any other direction, same way u can play guitar and hit whatever fret u need without looking

  • THE ABSOLUTE BEST WITHOUT QUESTION!

  • @STRGATE7:

That's true, Phil can't drum anymore because of his back

  • SICK !!!!!!! love it

  • Phil just went somewhere else, he isn't even looking = possesed

  • Does it get any better!

  • professional interaction; cool

  • He playing with eyes... god he makes it look easy

  • Would you believe that many people, back when Phil was the hottest thing going, didn't know he played drums? And Chester is awesome as well. they "Wrote" this thing on 2 hotel chairs........

  • 75 people slipped and accidentally pressed the wrong button.

  • ahahah 5.50 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • they both play a difficult part, but chester is all wet and concentrated, phil eats a chewing gum XD

  • @TheReddvd

Use your brain, Chester is playing the whole show and Phil is just playing a solo.

  • @TheReddvd chester knows phil is a loonitick on drums and knows he's got to keep up:P

  • @TheReddvd

    Eats a chewing gum??

  • @TheReddvd Stick you XD where the sun don't shine. It doesn't matter at all if Phil is chewing gum. You get up on stage and do what he did. Can't do it? Go buy a pack of gum and at least chew.

  • Hmm, yes it's pretty awesome.

  • Chills!

  • read in Rolling Stone mag about Phil several month ago. says Phil cant play the drums anymore, somethin wrong w/ his hands :(

  • My dad had this on video and I used to watch it all the time.

  • My had this on DVD and I used to watch it constantly.

  • Yeah I get so pissed when people dismiss Phil. The guy was an amazing drummer. His stuff with Brand X, all the albums he played on for other musicians. There was a reason others solicited his talents he is that freakin' good. He is one of those guys where there is no mistaking who it is you are listening to, you know it's Phil in about 2 seconds flat.

  • @guyfidelity

    I prefer John Henry Bonham

  • @norranun Prefer? They are both good drummers. You're comparing apples to oranges. It's a matter of taste.

  • @guyfidelity I totally agree man!! I just got back from a holiday, lot of driving, so we had a lot of cd's, including calling all stations. It's a good album but you can really feel phil is not on the drums. His playing is really really filled with uniqueness

  • phil collins is better singing a song like " You'll be in my heart "

because John Henry Bonham set the bar way so high in MOBY DICK !!!

    Period

  • @norranun What are you talking about?

  • You can tell Phil is a master at playing drums. Just like Eric Clapton on the guitar... They just make it seem so "effort-less". If I could play drums like that, or a guitar like "slo-hand", I wouldn't worry where my next paycheck would come from... and that's the gospel.

  • Growing up on Phil's music, I got the Rock Band games on my Wii system. The Ludwig drum controller was what influenced me to drum like Phil.

  • so spielt man Schlagzeug, einfach geil

  • einfach geil..da fliegt mir die kappe

  • einfach geil..da fligt mir die kappe

  • 3.16 WOOOO

  • phuckin' phil......dude is a BEAST!!!

  • Awsome, it's like they go into a trance. Fantastic, thanks for posting Farook

  • ...it reminds me of good old days, yes it does! uuiiiii

  • i dont really like the sound of an un cliped snare sounds bongo ish type thing

  • Wie cool !!!

  • Don't you mean... "21st Century"? LOL But I knew what ya meant. :)

  • no words...

  • Looking down into the comments, why on earth is beiber compared to phil, phil would use beiber as a cymbal!

  • @jrcr1 Ha that is so true, with the stand rammed up his arse

  • @fatbaldandover40 well he allready has a pole stuck up his ass no need for a cymbal stand

  • @jrcr1 ...oh please! I agree with you 110%! Beiber is just a MASS PRODUCED MUSICIAN... Like most of your "contestants" that go on American Idol... They NEVER know the REAL story about being a musician except when it comes to a "contest". Please, gimme a break! Makes me feel bad of what all the REAL musicians had to go through... KIDS have it soooooooo easy today. :(

  • @yesdrs Yeah' Tell it like it is! "I am so sick of all the commercial and marketing and image, And What's popular, It's absolutely ridiculous. Not only that the shit they do is all goddamned computer techno shit. It's not true sweat. It's in plain simple terms, It's not music!!!!!

  • @jrcr1 LMAO" Get fuckin real! LOL" Phil would use hi's ass for toilet paper! No Offense' That's just how it is! Comparing a punk kid to a legend? Get fuckin real!

  • Jungle time :)

  • when you can play like that you know your good

  • when you play like that you no your good

  • youtube.com/watch?v=qdCDuTqwNuQ

  • Phil Collins has a Grammy up his ass.

  • Even you are retired, but you always put a great dimension of our music, Phil! True a LEGEND!

  • omg they're both so amazing, but phil is that main reason i wanna play drums.

  • One of the best and yes Phil collins rules.... But Chester Thompson deserves as much credit!!

  • One of the best and yes Phil collins rules.... But Chester Thompson deserves as much credit!!

  • je n'aime pas , j'adore le top !!

  • Why does (currently) 71 not like this video? It's great.

  • WOW! AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! There's nothing else to say.

  • sheeeeer CLASS

  • sheeeeer CLASS!

  • Phil's best live drum performance is "Dance on a Volcano"-Genisis Live. Hands down! I feel lucky to have seen one of his last concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. What a crappy venue ,but I still loved every minute of it. What a dump though.

One of the top 5 rock drummers to ever live. Thanks for your music and enjoy your retirement! We will miss you.

  • OMG can you compare Bieber to Phil Collins anf Chester Thompson? Nope. Ever? Nope!!!

  • fantastic performance, precision......super thx.*(*-*)*

  • phill is way much better than justin bieber,

    Collins will be legend

  • Best szene is at 1.40

  • My fav ....video,, GREATTTTTTT!!!!!!

  • My 7yo daughter wants to play drums and she is always banging on shit, and she loves classic rock music with heavy drums in them. Phil Collins is a perfect example for her.
