  • Fantastic song from a truly great rock band at the very top of their game. FYI - this song is about Ballymun, a v tough area of north Dublin which suffered hugely from drug addiction. There were seven high rise tower blocks which were synonomous with Ballymun - hence the line "I see seven towers, I only see one way out"

  • @roytheboy68 I know the lyrics are about that, but didn't they write this for Phil Lynnot from Thin Lizzy, who was a friend with the band ? Please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks .

  • Perfect song from a damn near perfect song from the pre-eminent rock band of our era.

Superlative effort from a band with musical depth and soul.

Joshua Tree - My vote for the best and definitive album of the eighties - up there with Sgt Pepper's and Exile on Main Street. Captures the eighties like perhaps no other album.

  • nice

  • Crushes me EVRY TIME he starts to sing "Hallelujah" . . . every cussing time!

  • Акуительно!!!

  • Why can't someone spell SYDNEY? xxx

  • I watched the U2 documentary Sky Down, I was amazed at the process in creating the music, especially of the song "One". The music is always first, which is why they are the greatest band on the planet for the last 30 years.

  • da best band!

  • seriously, words can't describe how amazing this band is! just incredible

  • zoo tv baby beats the bbc anyday

  • what a version!!

  • The Greatest Band in the World!

  • best life version

  • I'm just running to stand still...

  • @pamhewson so do I

  • 9 people are running to stand still.

  • this song sends chills through me. It's magnitude

is beyond measure. I agree with many of you. This

is definitely version of the song. Amazing!

MONEY FOR SOMALIA,MONEYS FOR CHILDS

  • i dont know how to put this in words, but this is simply the f****ng best

  • Does anybody knows where was the live version of this song where Bono sings '' still runinng, i'm still running'' at the end.

    Thank you

  • @tarikgorazde Pretty sure that was in Dublin. Doesn't he say something like "This is a Dublin story" at the beginning?

  • @megalosaurus I tried to find that one but i can't. Rattle & Hum has the version with ''still running''.

BUt if you find the Dublin one please tell me.

    cheers from Bosnia

  • @megalosaurus U2 Point Depot 31.12. 1989. - This is a Dublin story :D

  • @imissthe80s100 U got that right mate!!!!

  • It reminds me of friends, lost, trying and those who dont give a damn......Prayers to all! BTW, I think im in love !! Bono!

  • @imissthe80s100 Yes and it was a friend of his he helped get of the crap,, She relapsed and died, SOO SAD.

  • A sad yet fantastic song about the horror of Heroine addiction. peace x

  • Beautiful, 2 all our loved ones lost but never forgotten :)

  • My favorite song and the greatest tune in the history of music.

  • the best band in the world!!! U2 FOREVER!!!!

  • smooth

  • This has got to be one of the most epic live performances of all time!

  • That army suit caused a lot of controversy in Europe not many people know that and i dont think they want to know...lol but..anyway great performance really !!!!

  • @omersexy why did it cause controversy?

  • @omersexy Army suit? tell me bout it. I just thought it was pleather. LOL

  • @omersexy ?????

  • @omersexy ????? Dang if our guys wore Pleather pants and a ZOO vest, WOW. LOL Hes just hot. Dont know nuttin bout any army suit.

  • @omersexy Don't know about any controversy. He wore that "costume" as a homage to the head of the band security team Jerry Mele.

  • Bono= king of ireland, rock god, and saint to thousands and millions who have survived or their lives have been improved thanks to Bono and his charity and humanitarian work! <3

  • All 8 people who dislikes are without of sense , i think they don't know what is a real voice for live singing....and bono have this, the best singer in live....no one can sing like he sings...

  • A song that brings back memories of another place, another time. Moving song.

  • It's a shame that after ZOOtv they went back to the Piano style of playing this song. This version rocks!

  • That's no concert... that's ZooTV!

  • Since it's release when I was only 17, I felt a deep connection to this song, now at 41 I understand, it is the closet description on my life journey, as short as it will be, I have been running to stand still...music has always stay with me.

  • He sings from the heart thats the difference. Its lacking a lot with modern pop/rock stars

  • does any one have some tabs of the guitar part edge plays, it's a brilliant sound

  • ahh the edge is a ledge.

we've done a semi-acousticy cover of One, please click on our channel name below to watch it - we're only young so need pointers! :)

  • he sings it so different than any other live vid!

  • U2... can send chills down your spine... and i mean that in the best way possible... their songs just make you think... Thank God!

  • @billmcg814 must agree with you

  • @billmcg814

No it doesn't, it makes me think 'thank U2'. god has nothing to do with it or anything else for that matter

  • always think of my firend rossi(R.I.P) when i hear this, was a great guy who loved u2 and we used to play there songs in a wee band many moons ago!!

  • @jasonmcgilloway rip rossi

  • and he knows exactly how to play with the emotions of the audience. too good. but it is annoying.

  • Oh man this song and video just moves me

  • this is my fave song by u2 i just hate everything its about

  • smooth

  • This version owns the one on Rattle and Hum SO MUCH...goes to show how much they improved as a band between 1987 and 1993. Bono's singing is so much more nuanced, Edge's guitar arrangement more creative, and the rhythm sections tighter and more organic. And the ending hallelujahs...chills.

  • <3

  • The voice!

  • Edge sounds so good in this song I think I'm growing a goatee.

  • Younger people mightn't realise that ZOO remained quite a mistery to many people until they actually went to a show. I kept hearing show snippets on radio as it approached Ireland. A fever of anticipation never before or since experienced. It was a UFO sending signals of its approach and you needing to be there.

Heard this live on radio and it blew my mind. A favourite all time track given a respectful but exquisite Zoo update - A sublime radio taster before ZOO TV itself touched down.

  • Every single time u listen to this track, it cant get any better, it cant get any better.. & then you hear this :))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • @cookamidgera Sorry mate, let me dumb this down for you, I make no reference to the video being recorded at London. “I remember being there.” meaning at the zoo t v tour. “ at Wembley stadium.” meaning where I saw the show. Hope this helps…

  • @twowheelsbetter yeah well when you reference it to a certain video it sounds like you were at the show where the video was shot...I guess when you speak on a globalised forum you need to be specific. So don't insult me with the term "Dumb this down".

  • I've liked U2 since Unforgettable Fire and I finally got to see them live in 2009...so those of you waiting to see them you'll get to one of their gigs eventually and they're well worth the wait! :-)

  • 8 people have no taste.

  • Been to the Zoo TV concert considered it to be grat then though at the SFS the sound kept on reverberating of the walls. I found 360 in Suncorp Brisbane AU to be the best ever tour they have had. I have seen them in 5 tours so far and will see them more and more..

  • The riff at the start... So awesome

  • bono rolling up his sleeve and rubbing his arm is a reference to heroin, which ties into how the song is about heroin addiction

  • bono rolling up his sleeve and rubbing his arm is a reference to heroin, which ties into how the song is about heroin addiction

  • awesome guitar part!! never heard the song like played like this... Just love it :)

  • @alliwantisu2

Then you never saw the Chicago 2005 version.

    Thats the best one!

  • Bono is 1.62. Hihihi

  • Hallelujah!

  • One of the greatest performances of the song.....visually it shows exactly what its about....amazing.

  • If you haven't seen U2 live, then your life is missing something.........

  • Than an actor on the stage. Bono is superb!

  • hallelujah i'm so glad we have this footage.

  • this song for you who dont know is about a set of flats in dublin near where i live that is basically a ghetto full of drugs and bono lived behind it, so he watched this going on everyday as a kid so he wrote this as a girl living there trying to get out

  • who ever calls up on the lord shall be saved and lead us not into teptashone but deliver us from evil amen love u2 michelle

  • @DADAROCKFORD U2 is so powerful they automagically deliver those who listen to it from all evil. :)

  • One word: Fantastic!

  • I feel a bit left out really. I'm a huge u2 fan and I'm 14. My ipod is dominated by every U2 album, and I could only watch in awe when they came to wembley. My Dad's promised to try and get tickets if they ever come back to England. I really wish I could go back and see this concert. And I envy those who did. :(

  • @CharlieeeBeee keep the faith... u will see them someday and u will be amazed! :)

  • @CharlieeeBeee I'm also 14 and my computer, my phone, my head and my entire life is dominated with U2.

Except that I got the chance to see them twice. And when you write this i remember how lucky i am. I remember only 2 years ago that i thought i would NEVER see them live, but i guess i was wrong.

So, your dream will come true, just never stop trying. It's worth it every penny.

    :)

  • Oh and this song then kicks into Where the Streets have no names, which is the most amazing sight to watch. If you want to see a stadium erupt, then just get U2 to play it live.. I defy anyone not to get carried away with it.

  • I was at the Wembley 93 concert, and I can truthfully say it was the most spinetingling thing I've ever encountered.

The entire stadium just stood almost in shock, mesmerised by the sheer beauty of what they were seeing.

Quite simply the best U2 concert of all time. And I've been to lots of them.

  • Chilling!!!!

  • Magnifico!

  • I wasn't there, I was 7 seven when this show was played LOL but I can imagine people crying and literally shivering and shaking with emotion. I'm seeing them in Bruxelles, Sep, 22! Here we go!

  • this performance brings tears to my eyes. It sends thrills through my body OMG just simply amazing

  • This is probably the best song ever. Period.

  • ITS SPELT SYDNEY ..

  • I wish that, someone would invent the Time machine, so I could travel back in time - just to see Zoo TV live.... I was 7 years old at that time... feelin soo sory about not beeing able to be a part of this awesome show!!!!

  • amazing version of this song...Zoo TV was my first concert.

  • what a voice......nobody sings with passion like that anymore.

  • @trixielab55 Agreed. 1 gazillion percent

  • @trixielab55 and this is the best performance of U2 about this song....:)

  • nice pants.

  • HAY BONNO GIVE MY KEP BACK AGAING BROW!

    Signature: BOY☺

  • this video is so amazing!

  • Epic performance

  • she woke up from where she was ..../.

  • grace,love and peace........

  • Amazing song i have seen them 10 times in the uk and Ireland but ive treated myself to see them in Miami in july2010 for my 40th........yeah "Rock'n'Roll stops the Traffic"...

  • Best version. Much better than Joshua Tree version easily.

  • I remember seeing this as a pay per view. It's unfortunate the store copy contains a number of edits. As Bono walks off the stage, there's a pretty amazing close up of him when he turns back to the crowd. You don't see that here. Absolutely priceless.

  • Hands down best live version of this song!

  • was there too 1993 Zoo Tv concert remains the best Concert I have seen Even better than the Guns n roses Concert !!! THis was at there Prime for sure !!!! My fave U2 Song along with love is Blindness Such passion > Problem today Wheres the passion Gone ?? 4 love not Money !! agreees with The chief Amazin ! thanks for posting Paulo :P

  • very potent stuff ,what is it with u2 that brings out the goosebumps? anybody else ?

  • @ShitJitsu gooepumps every time.... every song....

  • Love this version of this song the most. This is story telling. Goosbumbps when he ´shoots himself up´. gooesbumps galore. just love it.

  • halelujaa!! ik zag u2 veel in holland ...... zooropa was de beste , wat een sfeer!!!! in de kuip:))

  • Song about heroin addiction in Ballymun, Dublin, the towers are nearly but the heroin is still there, tearing the community apart

  • Esta es a mi entender la mejor version en vivo de Running to stand still. Que gran tema, el intro de the edge, el bajo, todo; los gestos de Bono, el timbre de su voz. Lo maximo U2

  • What a performance Bono!!!. You're super...

  • ein Traum...

  • Unerreicht...

  • Best part is when he plays the harmonica

  • "She will suffer the needle chill"

    "Shes running to stand still"

The tragedy that IS chemical addiction, heroin, alcohol, ice, whatever..... tears families apart, tears addicts apart. Believe me I know, I have felt my family torn apart. A prayer to others that have loved ones suffering.

  • "where the streets have no name" following (always the best part of each of their concert

  • W O W !!!

  • I agree, its so fantastic this song. How is it possible:)

  • All I can say is *WOW*.

  • I went to the Zoo TV concert. That was the best concert I ever attended and I'm over sixty. I've followed U2 since the Boy Album. They are truly the most poetic band and put on great concerts. It's just too bad I ddidn't get to see them live more. Thank goodness for sites like Youtube that let you see their early and later days as they have progressed. They are an amazing band.

  • I saw them years ago at a little community college in New York state (I was young!)...it was AWESOME!! You could feel the excitement, the intensity, the passion & love for their music & messages.

  • @billthechief Mister you should be hounored!

  • @billthechief i envy you.

  • @billthechief never to old for music !! music is in the hearts , not about age !! keep on rocking !! greetings from holland

  • @billthechief Agree with everything you just said, except I'm not over 60... yet :)

  • @billthechief Amen to that!

  • @billthechief I have seen Zoo TV when I was 16 and you can imagine the effect ,it was epic, it stole my soul, I have never come out of a concert so wasted -happy-sad-gased up-melancholic at the same time as after Zoo TV , it was like seeing the messiah for me, it was the discovery of something that was inside me that U2 were able to take out. I didnt need any drug or booze cause U2 were terribly devastating for my brain and soul, i have never been the same after that, they changed my life.

  • @SeekNd3str0y you couldnt have said it any better, seen zootv in dubli at 16 too.still a life long dedicated fan & rtss is my all time fav.

rock & roll stop the trafic.

  • @SeekNd3str0y I saw them play in 1978, but can't remember because I was 3 years old.

It wasn't until the Zooropa tour until I saw them again.

I was only 17 at the time, and it blew me away.

The sell out every venue they play, but very few people really appreciate how lucky they are to see the greatest band on the planet.

  • @SeekNd3str0y I hope it changed it for the better. Thats what this song is all about. His friend who was an addict, got sober, relapsed 1st time and died.

  • @SeekNd3str0y You said what was going through my mind when i left the last concert in July 20, 2011. When i leave i can't think about anything else and take the next day off to go through a withdrawal.

  • @SeekNd3str0y

I´m from Germany and I was 23 when I was on my first U2-Show. 1992, June - 4th ZOOTV in Dortmund. I´couldn´t find better words! I´ve seen them again in 1993 at the "Weser-Stadium" in Bremen. Meanwhile i´ve been to 10 U2-Shows but they have NEVER NEVER EVER been better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor people, who never were able to go to a ZOOTV/ZOOROPA/ZOOMERANG - Show!!!!!!!!!

  • @billthechief I envy you SO MUCH. i was born 10 years after Boy... first song I listened to was "One" when I was aboutr 4 years old and since then I never stopped. I'm 21 now and I still have the same passion, still feel the same fire. They are absolutely amazing.

  • @billthechief You clearly have the best taste in music! U2 Rocks!

  • "Cry without weeping, talk without speaking and scream without raising your voice" - this means so much in such powerful words - brilliant poetry!

  • stunning song, stunning version,

  • Brilliant, brilliant...!

A fantastic song that reminds me of that period when U2 were absolutely brilliant...i would say "more brilliant" as song writers and live performers that they are in the present...

  • extreme67 get over it miami is miami we get the pic.... are u on drugs or just a poof

  • I hope that they will remember these songs in Athens!!

  • Legendary!!

  • Halleluia

  • 2:56 never fails to make me jump!

  • This song touched my life, I moved from Upstate New York, To Wasilla , Alaska, now after 13 years my step daughter walks back into my life. There are things in Life that have a Higher meaning, Kinda like Songs, That remind us all how Human we all really are, God Bless!

  • This songs makes me think of someone close 2 me....as I watch her wither away...see the seven towers~~~

  • they never release their best songs, they leave them for their true fans to stumble upon, there are fuckin loads, people do not realise how fuckin amazing this band are!

  • what reaon for tings thrown at inm on vid? never seen dat before.......

  • The man knows how to put on a show.

This is my favourite version of this song.

  • You got to cry without weeping

    Talk without speaking...

This is the best song I've ever heard...

It makes me better than I am!

  • If only someone could coax Bono out of his shell.
