Wonderful song . Love 58 Chevys they had a 235 6cylinder several 283 V8's one with Fuel Injection Fuelie and a 348 V8 later upped to a 409 She's Real fine my 409.
back in the 60's, you were judged by your ability to tell the year, make, model, and the type of engine each car had. Was a major deal when the new models came out. The dealers would have them covered up,in the showroom. people would press up against the window to see the unveiling.
I used to belt holes in the muffler of my dear old dads Vauxhall , trying to make it sound like one of these beaut yank tanks , as we used to call them ,,,an Aussie .
one of the easier doo wop tunes to listen to, as the arrangement is terrific. have owned many an old car, so I did in fact know the identity of the Impalas. There will never be great cars or great music made again, so the last of us "torchbearers" just have to keep on keeping the faith.
Great 60's music from a "gentler time".....and you can't beat the oldie cars!!! It was a great time to be "Cool". I feel blessed to have lived through these times. Fantastic Memories..............
How many times I ran all the way home for staying out to late...Just to get a butt whippin...I never learned those drive in movies were the best place to hang out..That is where I met my Husband that passed to young...I love you Ronnie now and forever...
@nazefunk919 ... You are sick!!!!!!!! That 1958 Chevy Impala represents the U.S. was it ruled the world in the auto industry and if you have to be told that you must be a snot nose that wouldn't know the diff anyway. The lines, the size, and room, besides of course excellent craftsmanship is now and forever lost. Go wipe your nose.
Just so you all know, the champagne colored car is a 58 Chevy Impala, the white one is a 59 Chevy Impala. (the 60 had 3 round tail lights) The name of the group is the Impalas, get it? It's NOT a Caddy.
The champagne one is a '58 and the white one is a '59 (got my first speeding ticket in a red conv't). Cars were cars, and music was music, would go back in a heartbeat.
This is good but in Australia there was a version by Brendon Bower that topped the charts. I believe he was Irish but is was fantastic - it was the flip side of another great tune the Hucklebuck. I don't recall how many dances I have attended and Brendon Bower's Hucklebuck is always played.
@samcashmooney Brendan Bowyer is from my home city of Waterford, he recorded this with The Royal Showband, who when touring in the early 60's had a support group of 4 lads from Liverpool named John, Paul George and Ringo. Later, with the Big 8 band, Brendan played Las Vegas every year, up again Sinatra, Elvis (Who came to see their show, Brendan did some Elvis numbers), Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Wayne Newton, etc. He lives part of the year out there, but comes home regularly.
First off I love this song. I remember when it came out. I am so glad to see so many of the young people today listening to the music of my day. I love looking at the comments. I will be 63 in a couple of weeks. God bless You and as we said back in the day ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE ! enjoy kids love ya. Doc.
@ComputerNut101 there trying, amy winehouse, that other chick from winslor avenue or sumething? you will never bring it back. why? because they have to come up with new fresh things for marketing , if they would bring it back? damnn , i think the youth would look like in the 50s again, but then more sexual tipped all of that:P
I'm 17, almost 18, and I sing this kinda music all day longHAHAHA - I pretty much narrate my life with '50's music - seriously! There's a song that fits just about every menial, everyday task....like running all the way home to say sorry haha
@jonvincent12 By the license plate it is 1958 and the symbol upfront indicates Cadillac. I Googled that much and found cars like it. I hope that's what you meant.
@jonvincent12 1958 Chev Impala. It came with either the 283 2-v, 4 v, or you could get the bigger block 348 cu in. 250 h.p., and the maxed out 348 had 3 x 2bbls carbs and rated 280 h.p. This engine later became the 409, then the 427, and eventually the 454 big block. You could get it in a 6 cyl too. Kind of wrecks the car to have lack of power though
@jonvincent12 and the 283 2 bbl was 170 h.p., the 4 bbl with the power pack heads was rated at 230 h.p. It moved quite good. Horsepower was rated as brak horsepower. If you measured it by todays methods, you end up with about 75% of the number eg: 230 = about 180

The Impalas could have lasted a long time with a few more hits like this one. It was a huge hit in Columbia,SC in 1959. Was on the juke box @ my high school grad .party...also "Personality" by l.Price & "Kansas City" by Wilbert Harrison !
@TheImpalas1959 Wow, when I was a kid one of my very first memories of my life is my Dad turining into our farm with a 60 Impala. It was love at first sight. Now all I drive is Impalas. But when you sit in the back seat of a 60 Impala and see how much space there is, you realize "Wow I wish I had this when I was 16." (actually forget that I said that). The heck with the environment, give us pre-70s big Detroit steel back again!
This song is one of many that takes me back to my childhood and I'm 36. When I was a kid my Dad would play these oldies, I just listened and appreciated what I was listening to. Not like kids of today that listen to crap
what would call this genre of music? i know its in the 50's era. like i'm not a noob i know different forms of music (listen to all types) but what specifically would this be? i think motown doo-wop right?.
One of my all time favorite songs. I grew up in this era, and The Impalas were from my hometown of Canarsie, Brooklyn. Brings back great memories. I only wish they would have recorded more songs--they were great!
