I'm a punk DJ, i've worked with all corners of Punk, bands from ska to skate from 77 streetpunk (orig & new) to Psychobilly, Goth Metal, Garage Punk, Pop Punk Hardcore and Straight Edge. They all have something to give BUT as far as I can see so called pop punk is merely a springboard to finding the real music. Blink have some tunes, but the lyrics are dishwater compared to say fugazi. Punk is about being someone even though your a nobody, its about the frustrations with evil in the world....

I'm a punk DJ, i've worked with all corners of Punk, bands from ska to skate from 77 streetpunk (orig & new) to Psychobilly, Goth Metal, Garage Punk, Pop Punk Hardcore and Straight Edge. They all have something to give BUT as far as I can see so called pop punk is merely a springboard to finding the real music. Blink have some tunes, but the lyrics are dishwater compared to say fugazi. Punk is about being someone even though your a nobody, its about the frustrations with evil in the world....

@duralate the whole idea of punk is not to be pop. ska is not a subgenre of punk. ska is jamaican dance music, bands like The Specials and Madness combined ska with a punk ethos or attitude to create 2 Tone (black & white we will unite) HOWEVER 75-77 UK punks were into reggae anyway. The album 7by7 by culture influenced many inc. The Clash. Hardcore is hardly a subgenre it is an evolution shared by anarcho punk here & skate core + more in the states.
