They hated him because he was black. The FIA got pissed about it and threatened to take Spain's F1 races away for it.
Regardless of what people think about Alonso's driving, he is a shady, disloyal prick and quite frankly I think Ferrari is doing a diservice to F1 by allowing him to drive for a competitive team.
Alonso should have disclosed the unsolicited email to the FIA immediately without telling Ferrari or McLaren. This would have been the proper way to handle the situation.

For a full 2 YEARS now he has had the best car (from mid 2009) yet it is only now (now that the Red Bull has about a second a lap advantage over any other car) that he is really dominating. Not gonna lie, im fed up of hearing people from both camps try and claim one driver to be better than the other. Alonso is a double world champion and probably the best all round driver. Hamilton, is one of the quickest-if not the quickest on the grid.

@NomenLog The thing that irritates me the most is people who blow Vettel WAY out of proportion without looking at the context of why he seems so good. For a full 2 YEARS now he has had the best car (from mid 2009) yet it is only now (now that the Red Bull has about a second a lap advantage over any other car) that he is really dominating. He is only the fastest due to his car, he cannot overtake cleanly and is prone to mistakes. Alonso and Hamilton are in a different league to Vettel.

Hamilton denied both of them the opportunity to overtake the safety car legitimately, then overtook it illegally whilst Alonso waited behind. Alonso was heavily punished for following the rules whilst Hamilton practically got off scot-free.
I'm not an Alonso fan at all, but this time he was right to be angry.
