  • EPIC JOHNSON!!!

  • Damn, it's so hard to play and sing simultaneously those saturated parts..

  • GREAT SOUND for 1988 and for LIVE, just PUREST, no false note..

  • this man is so damn good. Grew up listening to my dad play all of his songs.

  • one person doesnt know what real music is and decided the dislike button was a suicide button.

  • Top 10 Greatest guitar players (visionary): Jimi, Eric, Eddie,Nils, JOE, Tommy, Angus, Tom, Waddy and Lindsey.

  • this is Eric Johnson indeed..EJ style

  • I can't imagine anyone doing a better job of singing what he's singing and playing what he's playing at the same time. He was really ON for this performance.

  • he's got a good voice but I definitely prefer his instrumentals

  • I am addicted to watching this. too! XD

  • I am addicted to watching this. Such an amazing song. Wish EJ was still writing and playing music like this

  • Excellent music, Eric is one of the best guitarists of all time!

  • I swear, Johnson has one of the best clean sounds I've ever heard. Everything, the chorus, the delay, the bright twang he gets from those Fender amps, it's PERFECT.

  • Genius

  • the crowd is dead WTF

  • @krauz111 They're immobilized by his greatness...

  • @mcjoz88 yes indeed

  • awesome song

  • @DutchNewbJr - What you hear at 3:45 is called 'feedback'. Jimi Hendrix used it often in live performance for effect. Type in 'Hendrix I don't live today live'.

  • well ...geee-whiz that was ...(insert superlative) despite the somewhat pale vocal (honest...i like that) and maybe just a tiny bit drier tone w/ less front pick-up use between about fret #5 to #12....he's knows best though.

  • i cried

  • This is the best guitar sound I have ever heard.

  • Back when I was getting into virtuoso guitar playing, it used to bug me when EJ was considered the best overall guitar player over Steve Vai. Clearly a result of my ignorance, I later took the time to get to know EJ's music and playing and upon watching stuff like this, it all became clear to me. ;-)

  • The way he plays makes me cry, no homo.

  • it's just kick back from the amp, reverb, some people do it intentionally. I don't believe this was one of those times. . . It could have been but that's what it is

  • That lead tone *drools*

  • God

  • Great stuff I used to listen to Eric quiet a bit in the mid 80's through the early 90's havent heard any of his stuff lately.

  • Quite a coincidence. I make a tutoral on grammar soon.

  • best guitarist ever why do we hear about guys like malmsteen and vai all the time eric is better than both of them combined because his guitar sound is beautifull he doesnt just play 200 notes a second all the time but plays melodic rock as well and he has grammy awards malmsteen has none i think vai has 1 but thats only because frank zappa taught him every thing he knows

  • @shredmaster100 Steve Vai has three Grammys, and more than Frank Zappa, his mentor was Joe Satriani - but he definitely has his own style just as much as Eric does. Personally, I enjoy Eric Johnson the most when he is chord noodling, like in the beggining of this song. On the other hand I think Steve Vai writes the best compositions (the smoother ones), no one alive composes music as Steve Vai.

  • there is yngwie malmsteen ha ha only joking yngwies a good guitarist but his best days were over at the end of the 80,s a bit like eric johnson i havent seen him do any new material in a long timeand joe satriani is a master guitarist have u seen the vid on u tube where he plays surfing with the alien on some cheap strat copy and still sounds great

  • How does he make that sound on 3:45 , that high pitched sound, tell me how it calls or how to do it

  • @DutchNewbJr Typical Hendrix sound.....its a wah pedal

  • Damn was this a good show. He's so hit or miss these days... :(

  • O_O

  • Hey guys i made a video about eric johnson total electric guitar, i can play this song to and i make a vid soon

    Rock on...

  • Love playing this song on guitar

  • good play! eric voice is perfect to this song.. one person must be deaf to dislike this..

  • Is that James Belushi playing Bass?

  • may tarantadong nag dislike! pag nakita kita papatayin kita!

  • omg one guy missed the Like button xD

  • que hermoso tema, encima canta re bien.

    que animal!!

  • First vid I see without any "Dislikes"

    Interesting

  • Every time I watch this god damned video clip 9 minutes and 18 seconds are gone from from my life because i can never turn it off !! Eric Johnson=genius

  • There is a lot of beautiful music out there. I often think piano music is very beautiful. I here this mans guitar playing and I think wow. He 's very gifted at arranging his music.

  • This is pretty close to perfection in my book. I haven't seen other guitar work that is as interesting and diverse like this. The harmonics are striking as well the way they are incorporated into the melody. Hats off to his bandmates as well. It had to be an honor to be part of this.

  • One of my favorites.

  • Second only to Cliffs of Dover.

  • Virtuoso performance!!

  • this is the best song in the world, why isn't it more popular?

  • no dislike :)

  • Comment removed

  • was he dusting off the guitar after he was done?

  • i want his hair!!

  • That's the mark of a great musician at about 7:57. EJ acknowledges the crowd's praise while he's still playing.

  • Perfeita , sem comentários. toca uma barbaridade!

  • He don't sound like anyone else...that's a good thing.

  • i Play guitar for 1 year now, i just learned to play this song and did it by ear, correctly chords, i can play 1:40 - 3:18

if u wnna learn this song i make a tutoral soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DutchNewbJr

put it up dude. i want to learn this song.

  • His music represents the beauty of Austin Texas and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.

  • im seeing this guy on sptember 28th! im so fucking lucky and ready!!!!!

  • Beyond brilliant!~ I love the smile Eric shoots at Roscoe at 4:51

  • id literally give a testicle to be able to play as well as he can

  • thats a pretty cool hair for the 80s haha

  • MY GUITAR HERO!

  • reason ej is the greatest guitarist is because of his music. you could be the fastest shredder like malmsteen or vai but you can't listen to them because their music sucks. i can't find a single steve vai song that i like enough to even appreciate his playing. ej has melody, harmony and rhythm...what music was meant to be. very underrated singer and songwriter/composer.

  • I think this is Eric's best performance I've seen so far, damn good. The way he goes from rythm to lead makes it sound as though there were 2 guitarists.

  • very tasty. now i'm full.

  • Just how his hands move, it's amazing. He is the best.

  • I love how these guys all work together. This is music, and musicians, the way I grew up on it. Not just a bluetooth in the ear lip-syncing, but actually playing instruments, working together and dealing with all the equipment on stage. This is awesome.

  • One of my favorite videos of EJ.

  • Jesus Christ hes raped that fender so many times the painted black circles are rubbing off....

  • I wish the camera would pan down to his pedalboard every once in a while. His feet must be a blur down there switching channels and effects all the time...

  • One of the best musicians i have ever heard!!!

  • DE LO MEJOR..!

  • Wow. This was excellent. The composition, the guitar playing, the arrangement, the vocals ... Outstanding!

  • One of the best performances in history of recorded music

  • oh my god what a song. man you are awesome. thanks for all the uploads i am subscribed

  • great song and video..thanx

  • amazing....speechless every time

  • Hey, did anyone notice how this video has no dislikes? 389 and 0 is pretty rare....

  • 3:43 most fucking beautiful feedback ever

  • @weischamp I'm a guitarist too......AND FUCK YEAH!

  • @weischamp at 3:46 he knows that feedback just nailed the song

  • Oh my God, this man was born to play the guitar!! gifted artist, no doubt about it

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever made.

  • nothing more left than enjoying the song.

  • Great song. Also: look at that awesome jacket. It's like someone a sea captain would get as a retirement gift. <3

  • Hes good man

  • Oh man. I'll admit it. I cried. This is just... Wow. *_*

  • live at his best

  • Fucking mindblowing. The clarity of his playing is surreal, every note is played with perfection, not to mention his heavenly tone. Rock on EJ, don't ever change your unique style.

  • God this is so perfect. What happened to music?

  • @dabearsman72 Yeah I agree. This is true music, or at least music made from the desire to create something from the heart. Music nowadays is made with the desire to create for profit. Money. It's sickening. I can't stand it. And I'm only 22 years old. Eric Johnson is my favorite guitarist, all around. His abilities, and style, as well as him as a person, from what I've seen in various interviews and videos. Everytime I see/hear him play, I just want to pick up my guitar and play!

  • This is my Favorite period of EJ. WOW , 63,114 LIKES .

  • This is my Favorite period of EJ.

  • its like if you count all the times this video has been put up and taken down and how many people have watched these videos it is beyond a crapload by far I am sure. I am far by sure?

  • @127quinn :

    Yeah!...no,...Yeah!

    (what he said..)

are you sure you're that far?

  • Cooool real Fender sound indeeeeed! :))

  • He can sing aswel ahh FML!

  • His live performances always impress me, how good this man can be?

I want to see him live!!

  • Mind blowing. A genius.

  • @KLxXguitarXx lol. Yeah man, I understand what you mean.

  • kickass hair

  • Even his mullet is clean.

  • Hmmm...did this song just become my favourite EJ song? oh yeah......I'd love to find a way of describing the beauty of this song but I seriously can't think of a single word that would be worthy of such an honor. He's the only one that I know of that's actually capable of painting 3-dimensional masterpieces of transcendental beauty with a guitar...thanks, Eric

  • I first saw this when I was a graduate student at the University of Texas while watching Austin City Limits. To say that I was blown away is an understatement. His technical virtuosity may be unmatched. I had no idea that one man with an electric guitar could create this level of intensity.

  • @KLxXguitarXx Rebecca Black's not famous, she's mocked for "Friday" I don't know anybody who thinks "Friday" is a good song, but I do agree with you on people like Eric should be more famous.

  • ・透き通ったサウンド

    ・卓越したテクニック

    ・爽やかな歌声

    ・秀逸なメロディ

    ・イケメン

    完璧だ b(^o^)d

  • im starting to think that he makes up his own chords.he never ceases to amaze me.

  • Shit.. This guys a monster!lmao he knows the neck well

  • This is my favorite song, specifically this live version, the studio version off the cd sounded too"synthetic" for me, it wasn't reall enough, but the live song takes the cake in my opinion, ectasy fueled musical orgasm is reached at 6:41, the sound is just beautiful!!!

  • intro is amazing, just to catch you in his music web, then his voice and melody, you just want to bounce up and down, than that great solo after 3 min..oh don't have the words to describe the beauty I'm hearing :)

  • 3:42 to 4:47 greastest note transition into a fifth and then an octave feedback from his bend. it gets him so bad his lips curl. :X

  • @hydrojsa

that was like 3 octaves! craziness i tell you what.

  • Comment removed

  • The guitar is an original 54 strat worth a small fortune.

  • @Howl625 It's a copy.............

  • amazing !!!!

  • Wow...like the cd!!!

  • for such an old footage this sound is amazing...not to mention the playing,iv'e seen this video about 100 times...

  • Steve Vai srsly said that?

  • Each note like a jewel. Even his feedback is perfect.

  • What is his set-up? It's amazing!

  • @S4B3RTOOTH :

    One more time:

Go to my channel (just click on my name) and open up the playlist titled: "Eric Johnson - Interviews, Gear, Sound, etc."

    That should answer your question.

  • @doubledge101

Hey, thanks again for this vid.

  • @doubledge101 @doubledge101 Really, you think because you've got a link to some EJ interviews that you're the gatekeeper and authority to all things Eric Johnson? Your links are helpful, but you don't get to act like an arrogant prick and act put out because someone didn't see your previous posts.

  • @cmsquared63:

Does my reply to "S4B3RTOOTH" really say all that to you? "Put Out", "Arrogant Prick", etc?

I don't feel put out responding to any post - and in this case, Eric Johnson has a much better answer to that particular question.

The statement "One More Time" is not there because I feel put out, it's there for the benefit of anyone who might have read it both here & other posts.

    Authority? Gatekeeper? NAH!

In fact, I'll give it away to anyone who wants it - send me an email & it's yours!

  • @cmsquared63 :

    Oh, yeah...almost forgot -

There are many really tasty DeCaf blends out there, and lot of ointments for whatever that irritation is that you're suffering from.

    How's that?

Did it meet all your expectations?

Man, some of the banter that gets posted up here is so far removed from the elegant beauty of music & the joy of sharing it that makes me wonder - "why bother?"

No matter what you do or say, SOMEBODY will take offense to it.

    ..but then again..

    doubledge101 - {The Zookeeper}

  • @doubledge101 Nicely said.

  • @doubledge101 Well said.

  • @S4B3RTOOTH old 100watt marshall plexi with jbl speakers two fender tube heads echoplex, electro harmonix memory man, tube driver, jimmy hendrix fuzz box, cry baby wahh a chorus box from hell, two 54 strats 57 strat, etc... and last but not least. The Touch. If you dont have this dvd from 1988 you gotta get it. This guy never ceases to amaze me. In the words of steve vai " He's got more talent in one of his fingers then ive got in my whole body"

  • @S4B3RTOOTH good guitar playing skills is his setup. My good guitarist friend told me he tries to get exactly between the frets for that clean sound. Or something like that. And my friend is very smart (when it comes to music) I play keyboard. But I love eric johnson

  • One of my all time EJ faves. He never ever fails to deliver with this tune. Saw him play this in 1986 and as a guitar player it blew me away completely. Inspiring!!

  • SRV and Eric Johnson have had some of the most perfect tones

  • thumbs up for the bass players leather pants :D

  • The guitar work on "this" version of "this" song, may tell a richer, deeper story in tone, note choice and feel, than any song of the rock era. That's just my opinion.

  • Tommy Taylor has a tiny Bass drum.........Great video. Great song.

  • this is one of the best songs i've heard playin' and singin' at the same time from one of the best ever Mr johnson, he's far far apart from the others and like him i'm afraid there won't be in a long time...thanks God to be able to hear this.

  • beautiful guitar sounds and smooth vocals, now that's what I call music :D

  • Anyone notice that he looks like a Sgt.Pepper Beatle w/ that jacket on?

  • @TheFigueroa007 Was giving respect to Hendrix who wore a marching band jacket at one of his own concerts.

  • No way, he's a shredder that can sing, he's a better singer-shredder than Paul Gilbert! This guy rules!

  • This song has an 80s shred metal ballad feel, like Tony Macalpine doing a ballad on shrapnel records.

  • why the hell is the audience just sitting there lifeless..

  • @chiefmojorising1:

The word "Awestruck" comes to mind...

    Galvanized, Hypnotized, in a trance?

Either that, or maybe the front rows were reserved for Austin City Limits special invites, who may not have a clue?

If you listen closely, the rest of them are responding at the right places.

  • @chiefmojorising1 because they're religious ppl

  • @chiefmojorising1 YES...it's nuts! It's like they are from 1980s Russia!!!

  • @chiefmojorising1 Cause they're actually a good audience. They want to listen to the music, not scream the entire time. When an audience is screaming, all they hear is noise and screaming; they can't actually hear the music being played. I would love to be in this audience because I would actually get to here Eric play instead of hear only screaming in my ear.

  • @chiefmojorising1 because they are all in a trance at eric's awesomeness!

  • A man that has TRULY MASTERED his craft. Thank God for Gracing our ears with such a talent !!

  • one of the great "all around" musicians

  • en dos palabras , in presionante

  • Excellent 'feel" for the instrument. Outstanding.

  • He doesn't get enough credit. He's coming to my city and this place he's playing at is a pretty crappy venue that can hold less than 1000 people.

  • AMAZING!

  • he has the most perfect tone on guitar .. amazing

  • can anyone tell what the amps are behind Eric Johnson?

  • @greeneibball36

I think he mainly uses a Fender Deluxe Reverb and some kind of vintage Marshall Plexi? I'm not 100% sure but it's pretty much his standard setup that he uses most of the time, well I'm fairly sure it is!

  • @greeneibball36:

Go to my channel and open this PLAYLIST:

"Eric Johnson - Interviews, Gear, Sound, etc."

    Then, play this vid:

    "Eric Johnson's Amps & Sound. ["THE RIG " - Hot Licks ] "

Check out some of the other videos in that playlist for his current configuration.

  • @greeneibball36

Looks like two fender heads with a number of Marshall amps and speaker cabinets. The numbers don't work out so there must be some stuff we can't see. The sound is spectacular though.

  • @greeneibball36 I could tell ya but then I would have to kill ya...

  • This vid blew me away! Great stuff that's now 22 years old!

  • I know this is unrelated... But if you look at the comments in this video, and then go to the comments of a lil wayne video... It's obvious that people that listen to Johnson are far more intellegent.

  • people I'm 15 years old and eric is my hero I mean holy shit I think I just orgasimed to this song its a masterpice

  • What an Art of music piece

  • he is absolutly best guitarlist in history of music with amazing vocal talent

cant believe he is not that famous in world music industry

    from korea fan

  • @TheLaopiao:

Alrighty then...consider it your job to enlighten your particular corner of the world (and any other remote corner of the universe, for that matter!).

ya never know...listening to EJ may just provide a spark that ignites the ever-elusive catalyst providing peace between the North & South......or - peace between N Korea and just about everybody else on the planet....What's that you say? Dreaming? Who, Me?....maybe so, but Hey! - U never know...seems like it wouldn't hurt to try...?
