  • A song of an era...don't care what no one says...there is nothing like the college days of the early 70's....especially the hook-up from Temple to Morgan to Howard and yes...WHUR.....they were special days. I even remember a concert with Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder at UMd..I believe the opening act was Mandrill

  • 奥さんジーン・カーンのヴォーカルが、ユッタリ、スピリチュアルに響くダグ・カーンの"REVELATION"~ブラック讃歌の最高峰 #jazzm

  • @TheSocratease My pleasure - those doug carn albums with jean carn were truly special.

  • Love it. As I write (31/12/2010) there is a stack of ORIGINAL Black Jazz vinyls in Jimbocho Disk Union, Tokyo.

  • After 40 years I still remember all the words to this song. I loved to sing it, and still do. Am happy to hear it again!

  • this is how I endure it all

  • Me, Myself, and I .....

  • WRTI (Temple U) WKDU (Drexel) This is classic Philly action!

  • Reminds me of my years at :THE" Lincoln University of Pennsylvania (1971-1975). I had a jazz show on WLIU and ended my show with this and Astral Traveling.

  • "when the time comes your spirit will live forever

if you've been true to self your time is almost here

wake up and fly to heaven lovers of a perfect love

    the whole universe will share

beings of a brand new world i'll make a wish upon a star

that you will see yourself just who you really are

PRAY TO YOUR GOD WITH YOUR MIND TO REACH YOUR GOAL

may He reveal a pure thought to your soul."

    delicious "soul" food!

  • Right On ! The time has come that GODs Spirit now has harmonized this Spirit , as I´m now sync by being true to myself . Therefore I´m waking up on Michael Js going HOME on 25 Jun 5769 of Munich Germany by the way of LA & Cincy

  • I am feelin' you. Takes be back to high school. This is a true classic. I just emailed erykah badu's webmaster to ask her to pass this piece on to erykah to consider re-making. If anybody could pull it off it would be her. Ya think?

  • I once had this in vinal many moons ago. Reminds me of WHUR FM 96.3 in DC in the 70s. Wow!

  • We used too sip and trip and just sit back and listen too the quiet storm. All day long they would be playing those relevant messages. Yea straight from Howard U, even if it didn't reflect the avg. Howard student they were the heart and soul of the city sometimes! Thanks 4 this.

  • We used to travel up from Virginia State to Crampton whenever Doug and Jean Carn were there. HUR was THE station for this kind of great music back in the day and there was nothing like coming home from school and getting within radio range of WHUR. Home sweet home with sweet music to glide on on 95!

  • I remember seeing them in some dive around 3rd and Market in Philly, back in the day. The music is on CD and I converted my vinyl of them. Messages are fabulous as is the music.

  • this is the same howard era that gave off wallace roney, geri allen, blackbyrds, and my dad who isnt famous lol

  • There was another D.C. station called WPFW that had a show called "Freedomsounds" with a positive brother named Hodari Ali and he would Jam this sound a lot also THANX for posting Beyond body and soul

  • once had this lp many years back. never thought i'd hear this again. THANKS!

  • Anytime..

  • This is a really fine album. Love the tune on it called "Fatherhood." Doug can get down on the keyboards.

  • your right! it was blue lights, was the album called the skipper or something? i definitely remember a sea captins hat?! the other track this guy used to play all the time was 'hopscotch' (i only now know its name after hearing it on your channel!) havent seen him in a while, but next time i do i will spread the word about beyond body and soul.

  • another wicked black jazz track, one of my friends always used to play a wicked instrumental tune off a black jazz album called the skipper? or something like that? ring any bells?

  • Luke, I think the track you are referring to is 'blue lights' by Henry Franklin..it appears to be up on youtube currently by someone...you're right, it's particularly good.

  • Sheer class - Thanks
