I'm a fan of Joe since i saw him live for the first time at the Dutch Lochem popfestival back in may 1981. years later i saw him live in the famous Paradiso in Amsterdam.
He is still one of my favourite country rock artist.
Good Lord....I, Mah Own Damned Self, have heard this song a thousand times since Live at Liberty Lunch and it still sets the tears to rollin'. Thanks, Joe....from another Son of The Great State of Texas in grim exile on the Other Side of The World. Ah'll be callin' home.....
saw him live in a wee place in ireland he was over visiting friends and i was lucky enough fo be in the right place at the right time he changed my mind about country music and coincidence x
I know Joe!!! And the Great State of Texas knows Joe! I live in Colorado now, but did a show with Joe at the "Saddle Bronc" in Lubbock, TX in 1977. I just thought of him today 34 years later and looked him up. Thanks for posting this song. He was really nice and good to me back then. Way cool. Kenny Brent
Emmylou Harris does to a great job on this, BUT she is BIG TIME already, secure in her stardom. Sadly, there are so many people who have never even heard of Joe Ely ... or Dave Alvin ... or Mickey Braun et al ...... If I was to win the lotto I'd spend a couple million on getting the word out for these guys. They are so good ... spread the word !
Beautiful song, and this might be the best version on YouTube. Just one request (and this applies to everyone else who does us the kindness of uploading): please tell us WHERE and WHEN. That information matters. But many thanks for the effort, Jimmy. Good job.

A real Lubbock love-in. A typical Ely interpretation of Butch Hancock's rugged peon to the pain of longing and L'Amour
