Depends. Usually, you want a rig that's as light as possible, though heavier weight can help with traction.

But there are other factors regarding traction that can help, such as having the right tires that are inflated at the pressure you need for the conditions (deflating to increase traction, for example).

However, you can't completely rely on traction to get you out. Sooner or later, you are going to get stuck.

This is why no off-road rig is complete without a winch.

If you have traction, your not stuck. getting stuck is when you lose traction. So yes, you can rely on nothing but traction to not get stuck, just dont lose that traction. And there are plenty of great offroad rigs without winches (not mine though). They just abide by the number one rule of wheeling: NEVER go out alone, winch or not

Obviously two different vehicles built for two different purposes. Audi builds fine cars but a tracked hill like that isn't a real test for 4 wheel drives - the quattro is more supposed to be for bad road conditions, not trail-blazing through a few feet of snow. Whether it's the same hill or not is moot as they're both roughly the same incline, but the hummer will never make it up the hill with such bad driving. Clearly this video has been fudged a little. Way too much hype up in here...

the h1 = 6000 pounds

audi = est. 2400 pounds

its on a snowy embankment, so the h1 drier shouldve used momentum to get up it like the audi did. As you can see the audi had a lot more speed before he went up the hill. clearly the audi is based on a rally car, allowing it to get up flat surfaces with momentum easier and quicker then the H1. Also, 'dave777blaster', hummers arnt made in china, they are built in the USA??
