I actually made one of these but i used 4 fans on it and used a 5 gallon bucket with dry ice and a few chucks of foam from a disposable fridge. I worked really good. It worked so good that im using it every weekend when i go out camping. I put it inside the tent where my wife and 2 kids sleep. Works so good. These haters are just jealouse of your talent. Is there air intake at the bottom? If it's just a single open hole, it wont do much. Also remember the energy to create the ice generates more heat then what the ice will be able to cool, so this may be useful to bring cool air somewhere but it is heating another area of the house.

You should always be careful when wiring up any device to be connected to a computer.. If there were a short circuit from 5v to Ground, D1 or D2, it could destroy the laptop or Desktop's motherboard/ usb controller. Still, Good work & good luck on any future creations.

If you put an transformer at a USB wire, and make it 12 volts, You can put a real fan on your desktop.. Then it will be realy effective.. But watch out it will need pretty much power.. so better use a desktop no laptop!! xD

Well, combine several ideas such as cold packs small enough to fit internally, or those little core that fit inside bottles you can freeze ahead of time. Then you can add a small inlet pipe and an exhaust that can fit over a fan template to your desktop computer, or a cooling pad for a laptop. That way your heat engine will work for you and not blow on you...make a second unit for your self.
