I wasn't aware of this version of the theme song. Thanx for it. Im more familiar with the choral version of the theme song. I think the dolphin , who played Flipper, died in 1971 and was actually a female.

*(Jessica Alba was in the mid 90s tv series filmed for the most part in Australia. Don't know if that version is out on DVD but would suspect it is since Alba went on to bigger things.)

Not on TV, but in the original movie there is just a hint: Sandy (Luke Halpin) goes out to where the dolphin, wounded, has beached itself. He pleads, "Please move...just a flipper or something!" (It doesn't do so.) The word, then, is apparently planted in his mind.

Ric O'Barry used to train the dolphins used to play Flipper and the reason the series stopped was because the dolphins became too dangerous to be in the water with. DOLPHINS ARE NOT TOYS. They are not all smiling, gentle, angelic beings. They are WILD animals that need to be RESPECTED.
