GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "As a kid I was glued to the TV every Saturday night watching this show. The closing credits said it was filmed at the Miami Seaquarium so I bugged my parents to take me there so I could meet Flipper and Bud & Sandy. Being frugal people, they took me to Marineland (only 2 hrs away) to meet Flippers's 'cousins'. This began my lifelong fascination for Marineland. Read articles on the website, florida backroads travel.com."
grew up as a kid watching this after school..lol..couldnt wait to see it..haha..i remember when flipper came back with a friend...flipper and flipperett...lol
I am a Flipper as well as a fan of the old shows Lassie, I grew up on these shows and boy what memories these shows bring back, Thank you so much for posting these, God bless.
Flipper nearly killed himself. During his last years he lived in captivity in a zoo in Sao Paulo Brazil where he banged his head into a pool wall everyday but he was eventually released into the wild.
Well thats me well and truly "Out the Closet" so to speak - Flipper, Lassie Come Home, Skippy and Rolf Haris all part of my Childhood DIet - Better send for the "Men in White Coats then" Ha Ha
I wasn't aware of this version of the theme song. Thanx for it. Im more familiar with the choral version of the theme song. I think the dolphin , who played Flipper, died in 1971 and was actually a female.
*(Jessica Alba was in the mid 90s tv series filmed for the most part in Australia. Don't know if that version is out on DVD but would suspect it is since Alba went on to bigger things.)
Someone should do a show that combines Flipper, Skippy, Gentle Ben and Lassie in a reunion kind of special. But done like it was in the 60's..NOT today!
i think its cute. that's one of the charms of these shows. that Timmy can give Lassie complex instructions and Lassie knows exactly what he's talking about. these shows are great fun. Thanx for posting them. it makes me want to go out and get the DVDs to Flipper. "E-E!, E-E!" :)
Not on TV, but in the original movie there is just a hint: Sandy (Luke Halpin) goes out to where the dolphin, wounded, has beached itself. He pleads, "Please move...just a flipper or something!" (It doesn't do so.) The word, then, is apparently planted in his mind.
if you get a group of gay men of a certain age together, everyone has something to say about flipper's dad. Brian Kelly, you live in our imaginations...
I think Dusky is persistent. So shall I be. I thought O'barry admitted to not knowing how to train and could only starve his animals to make them work. Regardless, hard to imagine anything but ratings canceling a TV show.
At the time "Flipper's New Adventure" was released, producer Ivan Tors wrote:
"Observing the affectionate treatment of the [dolphin] mother towards its young, it occurred to us to apply the same technique. We decided to abandon the conventional training method, which in essence places the dolphin in the position of a circus performer. "One of the young dolphins, separated from her sick mother, was placed in a salt water lagoon. We decided to treat her the same way her mother did....
"....Luke Halpin joined the dolphin. He swam alongside of her, touched her rhythmically and kept her company the way her mother had. Luke's presence reduced the shock of loneliness created by the loss of her mother and the dolphin returned his affectionate dolphin-like training in kind. "The boy and the dolphin swam and played together as only two dolphins would. The dolphin's response and gratitude were beyond belief."
Ric O'Barry used to train the dolphins used to play Flipper and the reason the series stopped was because the dolphins became too dangerous to be in the water with. DOLPHINS ARE NOT TOYS. They are not all smiling, gentle, angelic beings. They are WILD animals that need to be RESPECTED.
Flipper is cute. But the way they talk to him like he 'understands'. "Hey Flipper, go to the store and get a loaf of bread, then do my taxes". "E-E, E-E".
Flipper is so cute. Just swimming around there. Not a care in the world. No queing for the fuckin bus to go to a job he hates. Just swims around in the warm water, laughing at humans, while we think he is putting a show on for us. Good for you Flipper! Even puts himself up on youtube.
If he looks that cute, you knows he's plotting something. He's out there, with his mates who escaped that Naval facility after Katrina, and you know they're plotting something...
u mean on the New Adventures of Flipper? Wish the introduced the regulars characters when they re idid Flipper. I didn't like the New Bud or Sandy. It was bad as in this series they fought where in the original they were close.
I know this theme off by heart. Did u realize in the original 1963 Movie they sung the full version to this theme, and I also love the Them to Flipper's New Aventure 1964. It was also similar. Which I own both movies.

Read about the dolphin-trainer Ric O'Barry!
But I have to say, I really liked Flipper. Very pleased to see Brian Kelly, whom I and my Daddy liked a lot. What a wonderful person he was/is!

I heard about that years ago. I didn't think animals committed suicide.

this is true. the new movie The Cove, had Ric O'Barry and he explained how it voluntarily closed its blow hole, therefore committing suicide.
