  • well, this is another method, definetly needs less cpu performance, but i don't think that this is a real simulation of water, looks more realistic with particles, but it's a beginning ^^

  • OMG, its Dark Basic, the amount hes pinging the surface looks like its a single point on that mesh. Ive used this before, some things to make it better are

    1) dont use Dark Basic

    2) use a GPU and a texture containing the heights, use fragment shader to do the same work, use shader model 3 which supports reading texture data from the vertex shader.

    3) instead of "pinging" the buffer at a single point, create a ping buffer what adds to the heights over a range on mesh.

    Slightly better results.

  • the point is that this is done interactively on a graphics card in realtime. it is not prerendered like 3ds. this is more for realtime games than for a picture, lol

  • i agree. ppl shouldnt "blabber" about things they dont know. do you even know what 3dsm is? Its a rendering/modelling application. it has nothing to do with realtime anything. sure you could make an animated model with every possibility of water ripples but that would take 64^64^256 frames which would take way too much space to be anywhere near practical and still wouldnt have anywhere near the flexibility this has.

    if you think otherwise. prove it or stfu. i think i hear your mom calling you.

    the point is this is going into a game engine. i'm not making art im programming physics... 3ds is for art assets... this has no assets... its strict programming. 3ds max has nothing to do with programming therefore has no place in this thread. to prevent yourself from sounding even stupider id suggest you shut up.

  • sashc, i've been using 3ds max since i was 16. i'm now 19. however, it doesn't take alot of experience at ALL to realize how stupid you are. but, if you would like to prove otherwise, then i suggest you upload a video proving your point. they say a picture worth a thousand word, imagine how much time you'd save with a video.
