@Dutcher1000 No they had to put a little artistic expression on it. Its a movie. They have to add their own twists to it. In all, what matters is that it portrayed and captured what and hw it happened
The boxing action in this movie is really accurate. If you've ever watched a Rocky movie where all they do is hit each other in the face for 12 rounds and never block, for example.
Ali should have retired after foreman fight he was 32 way past his prime with only two defeats in which he avenged against frazier and norton,ali beat foreman when foreman was 24 years old and a record of 40 fights 40 wins,37 kos including easily knocking out frazier and norton.
@jintoor Errrrr bro...then we wouldnt have had Thrilla in Manilla and Ali wouldn't have claimed his third heavyweight title. Not to mention he kinda beat a whole bunch of great heavyweights after his prime (bugner, frazier, shavers, norton etc.) which just reinforces how great he was...
@jintoor the thriller of Manilla 75 , there should he retired , a fight till dead , Frazier is dead now and Ali ( the best of all time is even very sick .
one of the best sports scenes, ever captured on film. The photography, the music of Salif Keita, and the brilliance of Michael Mann, just took my breath. Still getting the chills, everytime i watch it.
shouldn't Ali/Will Smith be breathing harder in his corner? he looks as if he's taking a break from a stroll. still, this fight couldn't have been captured on film any better. amazing knockout sequence and soundtrack
Great movie but man did I hate Ali even more after seeing this film. He was the greatest but that attitude overshadows his skill for me. I did admire him not wanting to fight for a country that didn't even think of him and his people as equals.
You clearly know nothing of Muhammad Ali. He defeated the U.S. government in the Supreme Court because it did not go to Vietnam, because as he said: "No Vietnamese called him a nigger". He was a world boxing champion who was a muslim in a predominantly christian country. He challenged everyone and everything: he transcended the sport like no other had done before.
@cesaraugustothanos Legends can be documented. I know about the supreme court files. Everyone knows what Ali's action did. They were justified but selfish and so that doesn't excuse the kinda jerk he was inside and outside the ring. "You still is an asshole and bastard" Yup, that's how secure people talk when they're challenged. Grow up.
Grow up you. I don´t feel challenged, because until now you only have talked shit, based on common sense, and not documented in research. You know just what common sense says it was a "legend." Search in detail the life of Ali, before opening latrine that you call your mouth.
@cesaraugustothanos Again, I know the life of Ali. In there, there's a man who is an arrogant prick who had no respect for his opponents and who's only revolutionizing of a sport that's going down the toilet by it's own hand, was done naturally without his intention. Resort to my last comment, special one.
Your last comment insists on talking shit, based on his limited perception. Much of the arrogance of Ali was to promote the sport and his position had to do like Jack Johnsson, the first black boxer of the early twentieth century who challenged the American and white racism. Do you really not know the life of Ali, in detail, and opens his mouth to spew their knowledge of common sense.
@cesaraugustothanos Seeing how he was already fighting black boxers and that he was talking shit during fights, that's bullcrap. Is your last sentence a real question?
The black boxers BEFORE ALI behaved like the racism and the press wanted: to "know" their place (Joe Louis, Robinson, etc.) Ali was inspired by Jack Johnsson (just for you READ the biography of Johnsson - and behavior considered "crazy" at the beginning of the twentieth century). The SAME as Ali DID: talking shit, talker, a master destabilize their opponents BEFORE fights. Sonny Liston, for example, considered ALI a "crazy" and that winning easy, underestimating Muhammad Ali.
Muhammad Ali in this fight used THE SAME tactic he used against Sonny Liston in 1964, talked, talked and talked - and destabilizing your opponent. George Foreman entered the ring against Ali FURIOUS, so that Liston came in 1964. He was a master of psychology, to take the concentration and calm of his opponent. When Foreman was CONCENTRATE, fought against Joe Frazier and almost killed Smoking Joe.
Foreman, himself, said late that Ali taked his concentration in this fight.
His knowledge of Muhammad Ali's pathetic. He talked so much nonsense BEFORE and DURING the fight just to destabilize your opponent, make him mad and without concentration. He did it so deliberately: before this fight, called the press he dubbed Foreman of "The Mummy" for being very slow. Foreman was FURIOUS, like LISTON in 1964.
@cesaraugustothanos It's a smart tactic. It's also disrespectful and not something the greatest should ever have to resort to. I can't stand fighters like that. Fighters I like, are good and let their fighting do the talking. What he did was for himself eventhough it did help other blacks and I admire a religious person atleast going for the religion of his people; especially one that doesn't condone slavery. He knew who he was, he was just a jerk ontop of that.
It turns out that this tactic "disrespectful" worked, and public and attracted a huge audience for boxing. You may not like, like Foreman or Frazier did not like, but it worked. The "jerk" has won several fights before they start for exactly this tactic because his opponents fell in banter. There also great fighter, was more intelligent than the other boxers.
Its low perception of who was Muhammad Ali makes you call him a jerk, exactly the same criticism that the press and his opponents did in 60 years: he did the opposite of what was expected of him, especially those who wanted to say what is right or wrong. Don´t you realize that such behavior "crazy" and "theater" was deliberate, based on Johnsson.
Foreman realized this later, in 80 years. And that was defeated by falling into provocation. They are friends to this day.
Ali is a noble man and wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of those involved in making the film. The objective reality is that Smith will never be more than a glorified pop rapper. He has zero acting ability, and he obviously has less than zero understanding of boxing.
@aitraining How big do you think Ali was? Will did a great job, getting his body right and acting. And the guy playing George looks a lot like George looked.
everytime i watch this as soon as that african music starts when ali begins the combination 2 knockout foreman i get shivers down my spine haha everytime without fail
My father who was 24 years old at the time told me about how he and his friends listened to the fight over the radio in India. Everyone before the fight seriously believed that Ali would go back to America in a coffin because of the kind of punishment Foreman had inflicted on Fraizer. I think along with Pele and Michael Jordan, Ali has got to be the most transcendent sports personality of all time.
@cpande1 along with Pele and Michael Jordan??? dude are u smoking pot?? Ali is way above these athelets, he was the greatest...most champions would sell their soul to gain the title...what did Ali do?? He gave up the title to keep his soul...he regained his soul by winning back the title...
@20HAIB My comment was not about whether he was the greatest or not (he very well may be, as you say). Just that the other two were as transcendent as he was. I.e. even people in far flung corners of the world who had no idea about basketball or football (refuse to call it soccer) would know about Michael Jordan and Pele. It's like with the Superman logo. People may have no idea about the character at all, but you show them the \S/, eight or nine times out of ten, they'll know what it is.
@cpande1 Ali is the most unique athlete of all time. There is simply no one like him. Muhammad Ali also is also the most widely recognized athlete in the world.
If there is talk about Mayweather and Pacquiao, your comments will get DELETED, this is a Rumble in the Jungle scene between two giants. That fight between Pac and Mayweather will be exciting and one for the books but save those discussions for Manny and floyd videos, not for Ali and Foreman.
This scene motivated me to get in to shape and take up boxing along with the real match footage. Because of that I got in the military and been in college. Scene motivated me to get out and work out EVERY day.
while foreman was falling down,ali had a chance to throw one more punch but ali dint do it,this shows that how good ali as a person is,this was also aknowledge by foreman himself,foreman said that "ali dint throw that punch while i was falling down,this shows that he is a very good man"
TO BE NUMBER ONE IS EASY BUT TO MAINTAIN THE POSITION IS VERY HARD,TYSON COULDNT DO IT,BUT ALI DID IT,ALI WAS A BORN CHAMP,HE MAINTAINED HIS SUPREMACY,HE RETAINED HIS NUMBER ONE SPOT MANYTIMES,WHILE FOREMAN WAS DESTROYING FRAZIER ,ALI EASILY DEFEATED FOREMAN.
AND REGARDING TYSON,YOU CANNOT COMPARE ALI WITH TYSON,TYSON DINT HAVE THE TEMPRAMENT OF BEING A CHAMP,BUT ALI HAD IT,ALI DEFEATED FOREMAN WHEN HE WAS 33,TYSON AT 33 WAS A WEAK MAN,WHO WAS DEATED BY LOIUS,IF ALI AND TYSON WOULD HAVE FOUGHT THAN TYSON WOULD HAVE THROWN ALL HIS PUNCHES AND ALI WOULD HAVE TAKEN THEM EASILY AND THAN ONLY ONLY ONE PUNCE OF ALI WAS ENOUGH TO KNOCK TYSON OUT,THE PROOF IS FOREMAN.ALI HAD THE CAPACITY TO TAKE PUNCHES,THATS A AMAZING THING
FOREMAN DEFEATED JOE FRAISER,FOREMAN DESTROYED FRAISER,BUT ALI DEFEATED FOREMAN,FRAISER COULDNT EVEN STAND IN FRONT OF FOREMAN,WHY DID THEY THROW THE TOWEL ?BECOZ IF THEY WOULD HAVE NOT DONE THAT THAN ALI WOULD HAVE KILLED FRAIZER,HE WAS BLEEDING HEAVILY,THATS THE PROOF THAT ALI HAD THE UPPER HAND,AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE TOWEL THROWN,YOU PEOPLE CANT BLAME ALI FOR THAT,TOWEL IS THE PROOF THAT FRAIZER WAS NOT IN A CONDITION TO FIGHT,ALI DEFEATED FOREMAN AND FRAIZER,ALI ALI ALI ALI
@Malcomenjr No not end of story my friend. He may be a legend but so is joe fraiser and mike tyson get your facts straight idiot mike tyson isjust as recognized and Fraiser should be he was a better fighter then ALI both were better fighters but Tyson would have killed both Fraiser and Ali in 5 rounds. But I love Fraiser the most. ANd MArciano is amazing and just as recognized and is a legend and had more stamina then ali could have dreamed for what you just said was absolutely retarded friend.
@Malcomenjr Joe Fraiser was a better fighter in my oppinon he would have won the fight in manilla if they wouldnt have thrown in the towel. And he should have won the 2nd fight. He absolutely dominated the first fight. Mike Tyson would have put ALI in a coffin. Marciano was from an age where they would go for 30 or more rounds. And Ali's actions out of the ring eventually came back and got him with karma. Now he can barely talk and is in a wheelchair. Joe Fraiser had heart and may be poor now
The movie was great. Just the only thing I didn't really like was none of the characters related to their real life counterparts. I mean James "Lights Out" Toney playing Joe Frazier? Will Smith playing Ali? Lmao.
@Makaveli175 Thats fair enough but they are exagerating because he wasent getting hit that hard ali was punching foreman out not letting him hit him, ali was throwing more than that and winning all the way
This is a cleverly done but the rumble in the jungle was nothing like this, ali was throwing lots of punches he wasent getting hit by foreman often they make it look like ali was loosing
it ends at this fight, what about the thrilla in manilla!!!!the greatest fight ever!!!! dam this director sucks ass, n what about his lost n comeback against leon spinks at 36 YEARS OLD To a 11 year younger spinks. come on. .
This is possibly one of the most, if not the most monumental moment in his career. Apart from the Thriller in Manilla, which was exceptional, they didn't want to continue with the film to portray Ali in his final years, where his condition undeniably deteriorated to the point where he finally retired.
I understand what you're saying, but I think they made the right decision.
@93roadrunner nobody knew he had parkisons till way after he retired, so it wasn't undeniably deteriorated, loll, n thats why this film wasn't a big hit,
Would a 'normal' Ali even lose to a toothless guy named Spinks?
And even if nobody knew he had it, he actually showed signs three or four fights before he retired. That's why. And if you watch his last fights you can see a difference in him.
Look at Muhammad Ali's last three or four fights. There is a visible difference. He showed signs of Parkinsons at this time, and in hindsight it is known that this is when he developed it.
Do you really think a healthy and fit Ali would have lost the fights he did? I think not.
And people want to remember Ali for the beastly fighter he was, and so the film ended on a high note, rather than a sombre and painful one where he lost.
@93roadrunner yea the visible dif. is hes 36-39 in his last four fights, no but i believe an old ali would, just like he did, it is not known when he got it, they say he could have, but we'll never know, and coming back n beating spinks in ali vs spinks 2 wasn't a high note, the only heavyweight to win the world title for a third time, thats not a high note, he looked good then, he was just old, then he retired and came back at 39, of course hes gonna look way outta shape, lol. .
Yeah I guess. Even I was a bit confused when it finished after this fight. But I don't know. It would've made more sense to follow him through his whole career, but hey, I didn't make it. Perhaps they didn't want to show him losing to Spinks in the first place?
@93roadrunner I disagree. 1964-1974 was the height of his story, both in his career and his personal life. For a two hour movie they would have had to gloss over too many details if they focused on his life more than this. For example, I really wouldn't have cared to see him as a child or when he was a broken down over the hill fighter with early stages of parkinsons. There are plenty of documentaries and interviews for that stuff.
Fair enough. You know, I only wish I was around at the time, to live through this man's career and life. He is one of my biggest idols and his story is just so compelling. But yeah you're right, that is the most prominent and eventful part of his journey.
@93roadrunner I just think too many biographies make the mistake of trying to tell a person's entire life instead of the most important aspects. Both Malcolm X and Ghandi made this mistake in my opinion. It's ok to show flashbacks, but get to the meat of what made that person special. If people want more info, they can read a book or watch a documentary. Anyway I agree with you. I ask my grandmother all the time what it was like to live during that time with such agreat historical figures.
And my father is originally from Africa, and he tells me stories of how he watched Muhammad Ali, and this match in particular. It must've been something so special to have seen this fight live.
@93roadrunner That's cool. Yea my uncle tells me stories about how his grandmother and her friends didn't like Ali when he was younger cuz they thought he was disrespectful and rude. They actually wanted Liston to beat him. But after Ali stood up against the Vietnam War, they all loved him for his beliefs. It's amazing how he was able to change what alot of peole thought about him.
Wow that's really interesting. Yeah he was an extraordinary individual. How he gave up everything that meant anything to him for his religion is absolutely amazing. I can't think of many people that have enough courage to do something like that. Such a great role model.
@93roadrunner Athletes today have no idea what sacrifice really is. They're too worried about their next shoe endorsement to speak against the government and for what what's right. Athletes like Ali, Jim Brown, Bill Russell, Auther Ashe, Billie Jean King, Curt Flood and many more in that time period weren't afraid to stand up for what they believed in, even at the sacrifice of their careers. All athletes today are company men that tow the line which is shame cuz kids look up to them.
Yeah it's a real killer to see them selling out for the money. This is why I'll never have much respect for any athletes any more. There are only a rare few that truly know what their sports are about.
Ali's a rare breed, and I'll look up to him forever because of that.
great

GrandTheftAuto503 4 months ago

20HAIB 3 months ago
@20HAIB My comment was not about whether he was the greatest or not (he very well may be, as you say). Just that the other two were as transcendent as he was. I.e. even people in far flung corners of the world who had no idea about basketball or football (refuse to call it soccer) would know about Michael Jordan and Pele. It's like with the Superman logo. People may have no idea about the character at all, but you show them the \S/, eight or nine times out of ten, they'll know what it is.
cpande1 3 months ago
@cpande1 You have to add Ayrton Senna da Silva in there with those three you mentioned.
Wheelman086 3 months ago
@cpande1 Ali is the most unique athlete of all time. There is simply no one like him. Muhammad Ali also is also the most widely recognized athlete in the world.

If there is talk about Mayweather and Pacquiao, your comments will get DELETED, this is a Rumble in the Jungle scene between two giants. That fight between Pac and Mayweather will be exciting and one for the books but save those discussions for Manny and floyd videos, not for Ali and Foreman.

while foreman was falling down,ali had a chance to throw one more punch but ali dint do it,this shows that how good ali as a person is,this was also aknowledge by foreman himself,foreman said that "ali dint throw that punch while i was falling down,this shows that he is a very good man"

TO BE NUMBER ONE IS EASY BUT TO MAINTAIN THE POSITION IS VERY HARD,TYSON COULDNT DO IT,BUT ALI DID IT,ALI WAS A BORN CHAMP,HE MAINTAINED HIS SUPREMACY,HE RETAINED HIS NUMBER ONE SPOT MANYTIMES,WHILE FOREMAN WAS DESTROYING FRAZIER ,ALI EASILY DEFEATED FOREMAN.
strongmale22 5 months ago
AND REGARDING TYSON,YOU CANNOT COMPARE ALI WITH TYSON,TYSON DINT HAVE THE TEMPRAMENT OF BEING A CHAMP,BUT ALI HAD IT,ALI DEFEATED FOREMAN WHEN HE WAS 33,TYSON AT 33 WAS A WEAK MAN,WHO WAS DEATED BY LOIUS,IF ALI AND TYSON WOULD HAVE FOUGHT THAN TYSON WOULD HAVE THROWN ALL HIS PUNCHES AND ALI WOULD HAVE TAKEN THEM EASILY AND THAN ONLY ONLY ONE PUNCE OF ALI WAS ENOUGH TO KNOCK TYSON OUT,THE PROOF IS FOREMAN.ALI HAD THE CAPACITY TO TAKE PUNCHES,THATS A AMAZING THING
strongmale22 5 months ago

ANd MArciano is amazing and just as recognized and is a legend and had more stamina then ali could have dreamed for what you just said was absolutely retarded friend.
lonnie727 5 months ago
@lonnie727 oh please, Tyson beat every single great HW boxer in the era of great HW boxing...
Tyson beat up on a bunch of cans and ducked Holyfield for a few years in his brief reign as "champion'.

@Malcomenjr But he can talk, walk, and still train fighters in philadelphia.
lonnie727 5 months ago
@Malcomenjr Joe Fraiser was a better fighter in my oppinon he would have won the fight in manilla if they wouldnt have thrown in the towel. And he should have won the 2nd fight. He absolutely dominated the first fight. Mike Tyson would have put ALI in a coffin. Marciano was from an age where they would go for 30 or more rounds. And Ali's actions out of the ring eventually came back and got him with karma. Now he can barely talk and is in a wheelchair. Joe Fraiser had heart and may be poor now
lonnie727 5 months ago
The movie was great. Just the only thing I didn't really like was none of the characters related to their real life counterparts. I mean James "Lights Out" Toney playing Joe Frazier? Will Smith playing Ali? Lmao.
Tmontana44 5 months ago
Another biased pile of shit. They make Foreman look like a lumbering idiot with no power or stamina and Ali look like some kind of superman.

@Makaveli175 Thats fair enough but they are exagerating because he wasent getting hit that hard ali was punching foreman out not letting him hit him, ali was throwing more than that and winning all the way

@Makaveli175 They are forgetting alis rigt hand leads and when he staggered foreman it is wrong

This is a cleverly done but the rumble in the jungle was nothing like this, ali was throwing lots of punches he wasent getting hit by foreman often they make it look like ali was loosing

it ends at this fight, what about the thrilla in manilla!!!!the greatest fight ever!!!! dam this director sucks ass, n what about his lost n comeback against leon spinks at 36 YEARS OLD To a 11 year younger spinks. come on. .
bphatboyjohn123 7 months ago
@bphatboyjohn123
93roadrunner 7 months ago
@93roadrunner nobody knew he had parkisons till way after he retired, so it wasn't undeniably deteriorated, loll, n thats why this film wasn't a big hit,
bphatboyjohn123 7 months ago
@bphatboyjohn123
Would a 'normal' Ali even lose to a toothless guy named Spinks?
And even if nobody knew he had it, he actually showed signs three or four fights before he retired. That's why. And if you watch his last fights you can see a difference in him.
93roadrunner 7 months ago
@bphatboyjohn123
93roadrunner 7 months ago
@93roadrunner yea the visible dif. is hes 36-39 in his last four fights, no but i believe an old ali would, just like he did, it is not known when he got it, they say he could have, but we'll never know, and coming back n beating spinks in ali vs spinks 2 wasn't a high note, the only heavyweight to win the world title for a third time, thats not a high note, he looked good then, he was just old, then he retired and came back at 39, of course hes gonna look way outta shape, lol. .
bphatboyjohn123 7 months ago
@93roadrunner couldve ended on the second spinks fight, when he got thee title for the 3rd time, n show him announcing his retirement,
bphatboyjohn123 7 months ago
@bphatboyjohn123
Yeah I guess. Even I was a bit confused when it finished after this fight. But I don't know. It would've made more sense to follow him through his whole career, but hey, I didn't make it. Perhaps they didn't want to show him losing to Spinks in the first place?
93roadrunner 7 months ago
@93roadrunner I disagree. 1964-1974 was the height of his story, both in his career and his personal life. For a two hour movie they would have had to gloss over too many details if they focused on his life more than this. For example, I really wouldn't have cared to see him as a child or when he was a broken down over the hill fighter with early stages of parkinsons. There are plenty of documentaries and interviews for that stuff.
Antrizzle2009 6 months ago
@Antrizzle2009
Fair enough. You know, I only wish I was around at the time, to live through this man's career and life. He is one of my biggest idols and his story is just so compelling. But yeah you're right, that is the most prominent and eventful part of his journey.
93roadrunner 6 months ago
@93roadrunner I just think too many biographies make the mistake of trying to tell a person's entire life instead of the most important aspects. Both Malcolm X and Ghandi made this mistake in my opinion. It's ok to show flashbacks, but get to the meat of what made that person special. If people want more info, they can read a book or watch a documentary. Anyway I agree with you. I ask my grandmother all the time what it was like to live during that time with such agreat historical figures.
Antrizzle2009 6 months ago
@Antrizzle2009
Yeah I see what you mean.
And my father is originally from Africa, and he tells me stories of how he watched Muhammad Ali, and this match in particular. It must've been something so special to have seen this fight live.
93roadrunner 6 months ago
@93roadrunner That's cool. Yea my uncle tells me stories about how his grandmother and her friends didn't like Ali when he was younger cuz they thought he was disrespectful and rude. They actually wanted Liston to beat him. But after Ali stood up against the Vietnam War, they all loved him for his beliefs. It's amazing how he was able to change what alot of peole thought about him.
Antrizzle2009 6 months ago
@Antrizzle2009
Wow that's really interesting. Yeah he was an extraordinary individual. How he gave up everything that meant anything to him for his religion is absolutely amazing. I can't think of many people that have enough courage to do something like that. Such a great role model.
93roadrunner 6 months ago
@93roadrunner Athletes today have no idea what sacrifice really is. They're too worried about their next shoe endorsement to speak against the government and for what what's right. Athletes like Ali, Jim Brown, Bill Russell, Auther Ashe, Billie Jean King, Curt Flood and many more in that time period weren't afraid to stand up for what they believed in, even at the sacrifice of their careers. All athletes today are company men that tow the line which is shame cuz kids look up to them.
Antrizzle2009 6 months ago
@Antrizzle2009
Yeah it's a real killer to see them selling out for the money. This is why I'll never have much respect for any athletes any more. There are only a rare few that truly know what their sports are about.
Ali's a rare breed, and I'll look up to him forever because of that.
