Excellent ! Better than the two recordings I have from this sonata (one from Vanessa Wagner and the other from Yakov Kasman) and infinitely better than my own playing especially the prestissimo volando. The speed is perfect and all notes clear and crisp. I played it once in an amateur competition in Paris but unfortunately I did not pass the first round ... Thanks again !
It's a 2 movement work (obviously in slow-fast fashion) in which the 1st movement leads directly into the 2nd, although on many cid recordings, you will find that the 2 movements will be split up into separate tracks, unfortunately.
mindblowing performance Dr. Attwood! It was amazing how you made the piano come alive! It is sad that alot of pianist nowadays concentrate so much on just right details and lack emotion and communication...Heard you studied under Jerome Lowenthal! He gave a masterclass and performed the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1. One of his student, Mr. Albert Tiu is assistant professor at my Conservatory!!(Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore)
Absolutely brilliant! Scriabin is the most profound composers of the 20th IMO, and it takes a transcendentally masterful rendition such as this to do service to his singular genious. This performance is magnificient!
1st movement reminds me very much of Laredo's interpretation. That's as high praise as I could possibly give, btw, considering I don't listen to any Scrib4 besides hers :P Very delicate, crisp, clear, Doctor Ninja.
This is so good,,, i see its Juilliard Doctoral recital. It must be good.

Hi, can anyone tell me if this is a good competition piece? If so, would it be ok to also mention whats good about it? Thank you.

Yes, it is more than good. It tests everything, from the use of complex harmonies to polyrhythmic passages (especially in the second movement).

What do you mean? He's playing the entire 4th sonata. It only has two movements. I'm no sure what you mean.

My absolute favorite sonata, and one of my favorite pieces ever written.
Evokes emotion in my every time I hear it.

Because I wanted to (and it's marked Prestissimo volando).

The intoduction was beautiful--but why play the final climax in such a rushed tempo?

What a brilliant piece of music.
