  • buster and Charlie were true masters.

  • Very fitting score for a silent film.. ;)

  • Sorry everyone-- there seems to be a problem with youtube and the sound for my clip. I'm working on it. Thanks for pointing the problem out.

  • Yeah... music?

  • Hm... can't hear the music?

  • LoL badass.. the short little retard you do when he falls with the umbrella is really badass! was that a retarding click?

  • Buster edited and cut all his films-he purposely slowed it down for those frames to look like slow motion.

  • I love it! You did a really great job! The music fits very well!

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my clip of silent movie star tobacco cards. They include: Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Tom Mix, Jackie Coogan, Harold Lloyd and many more.

  • oh, by the way, the fact that you played all the instruments is VERY impressive. You are well rounded :)

  • wow! that was awesome

I really like how well you accented each movement.

I'm entering this year's competition. Are you gonna try again?

  • Very well done. Thought you hit a lot of excellent spots. It's one thing to wallpaper a scene, and quite another to actualy score a scene and work out timings, adjusting accordingly. Felt natural throughout. Again, great stuff. Keep up the good work!

  • Wonderful piece of work! I did filmmusic myself at the beginning of smpte-times. You have the feeling and craftsmanship to do more.

I hope you get some offers trough youtube-publishing!

  • Thanks. The Keaton is the most recent. I have one from "He Who Gets Slapped" where I did the click track by clapping my hands while watching the movie-- totally old school. The new software is much less stessful to use.

Luckily, since all the instruments are real, I can preserve the old sound.

  • (continued) If there had been a break in the music at that point (as there was when the clown falls down in your score to "He Who Gets Slapped") then the score would have stood out too much and the rhythm of the film would've been broken. I'm glad that you decided not to break it, but to transform it here; I think it works much better.

  • I've watched your other videos and I must say that I like the score in this one the most. It flows perfectly with the film yet it never distracts from it. I especially love how you handled the part when Keaton pulls the lady down from the balcony - it was a really good transition to a different mood, and all while keeping the same tempo!

  • I agree that this one is the best. It was the most recent. In fact, I had never scored to picture before I did the first one (the clown one). Also, I think my love for Buster Keaton made me work harder on it. Thanks for the detailed critique. These clips have been sitting in a hard drive for a while. Glad to get them out.

  • Wonderful! Excellent scene and I just love your music - it captures the comedy really well and just does what it needs to really. You sure play a lot of instruments!

  • Thanks for the encouragement. I made entries for this contest a few years ago, but they kept choosing more modern (synthesizer)sounding scores as the winners. Nice that YouTube came along and gave me a spot to show it. I just posted my earlier entries-- they were for Barrymore's Don Juan and Lon Chaney's "He Who Get's Slapped". But the Keaton one has the best video quality-- and is the one closest to my heart.
