This movie had so much potential. But the Sandman? Really? Don't get me wrong, this fight was decent, but for god's sake he is possibly the most underdeveloped, poorly motivated, and overall annoying villan. Making him into a father who "Is not a bad person, but made some mistakes" only worsened the character. The robotic acting also contributed to the film being unbarable to watch at times. He also required so much CGI that it just made the film look silly

It was evil in that it would sometimes make him act while he was unconscious, doing terrible things, but while he was awake, it was just a more useful suit than the red one. It was when he found out that it was alive and rejected it that it got cranky and found venom. Because it loved spidey. In that creepy, one-sided "why won't you love me?" way.

@jadedflames yeah, you're right actually, I had forgotten it was like that originally. I was thinking more of the later incarnations like the cartoon series and newer comic interpretations where it actually affected his personality. I do however like the original concept a little better, how it eventually understood that it was unwanted, and sacrificed itself at the bell tower for Peter's sake, to make him happy. It's the "scorned lover" concept that causes the symbiote to hate Peter so much.

Sony was having a really bad year of movie sales and needed Spider-Man 3 to get them back on track and they read the script Sam wrote and told him to include Venom, but Sam hated Venom and refused, but Sony forced him to use him and becuase he refused they also forced him to re-write everything and Sony took over the creative control on the movie. So no-more blaming Sam Raimi, blame Sony for being greedy for money.

@ValenciaFan1 - I don't know, Garfield strikes me as making Peter Parker seem like a loner and kind of an emo. Peter Parker is supposed to be an awkward nerd (like Tobey Maguire played him), not a moody, brooding emo like he seemed in the trailer with Andrew Garfield. The only way you could tell Peter was supposed to be a nerd was him wearing glasses in a couple of scenes.

Maybe that kind of thing would appeal to tweenies and teenies but it doesn't feel like Peter Parker.

@A86 The definition of nerd has changed soooooooo much since the 60s. They are making a modern movie so he will look like a normal teenager. He is sort of an outsider, but the clips I saw at ComicCon showed that he is a very independent person and really is the Peter we know.

From what I have seen so far, Tobey Maguire can't even be compared to how good Garfield will do the role.

I have so many problems with this movie. 1 the whole sand man killed uncle Ben subplot ruins that scene in the first one where he sorta kills the guy he thought was the killer, with that whole Marko killed him thing that whole fight is pointless and spidermans whole reason for becoming a hero is undone. 2 venom is 1 dimensional deptless character. 3 the 2 villains join up for no fucking reason, Venom wants to kill Peter for a stupid reason, and marko just wants money they have totally seperate
