Whatta blast from the past! I only saw the Commander once with the original LPA crew back in 1970. We were goofing around Boston one evening in the Back Bay and came across this incredibly great sound coming from one of the night clubs (Passims?). Anyways, we had to check that band out and we were treated to one of the really great, tight bands that came out of that era. It's a shame digital recording was about 40 years too late to get the music of that era in it's youthful glory....
@rjplamf61 i agree. i'm from Alabama and all my friends listen to all that pop-country bullshit. Commander Cody is what us true southerners want to hear!
You know George is a race fan. Even saw Seretarat I believe. May be wrong there Commander but I know you cried when you saw the movie. We all like winners- and you are the triple crown of what you do- music, lyrics, humor. The Stevens Point, Wi brothers. Cold as night- hot music!
One of the good ole songs from way back!!! Aww youth...twas a magical time. Fifties not so awful bad either. Maui memories...was fun. Asi es la vida! <3 ;)
@purplerocks72 So when u r out yer out, huh. Ever smoke the bong h20 stuff? yuk....ya gotta be pretty dern hard up for that, but ive dun it,...and worse. Seeds in a blender, up all nite scrapin pipes,..etc.
I remember when George, The Commaner, and his band used to Play in the Arb, in Ann Arbor, for free, as did the MC5, leaves of Grass and others. Andy Stine is now on Prairie Home Companion.
@OldHippieEnt Truer words were never spoken. But for some reason I still can't remember whose boots Fat Freddies cat kept shittin in. Maybe it was the bong hits, sadly I don't remember If I had a bong or not. You still gotta love The Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. I can't remember if I was one of them or not. The 60s and 70s were just a big blur if you know what I mean. But I think the music was way cool I think. I think I am. Therefore I am. I think. Of course you are my bright little star........
@gunslinger5854 Well I'll be dipped in Dogshit! YASSSS! yer just beggin fur a response, OK so it was indeed Freewheelin Franklin's boots that Fat Freddies Cat kept shittin in, I still have Freak Brother Comix 1-6 stashed in my basement along with Zap #1 and a copy of the Newsweek magazine with coverage of Woodstock in it. You know the sad part? I actually threw away what was left of my 20 year old stash because of my employment security clearance and piss tests, and voted Republican last week.
@TheEldoradoKid Well we tried Democrats so let's try the other for a change. I still remember my girlfriend coming back from New York with the first copy of Checkered Demon. What an X rated comic that one was. You should have seen her mother when she found it! Nothing like a good dose of headphone music, some weed and a decent comic to stare at for hours. Those were the really good old days. I sure do miss the late 60s and early 70s. Music will never be the same!
@gunslinger5854 Man, I remember when I was in college back in the late 70s and first heard CC and his LPA sing "Everybodys Doin' It" in my dorm room, I just absolutly laughed my ass off! In Albuquerque, The University of New Mexico's NPR radio station KUNM was legendary for pushing the envelope with such songs and formats. The Assylum Show on Friday nights with DJ "Malachai Mudgong" was legendary, and played lots of CC / LPA, and other "questionable" songs. .
I'm with Phil,,, In the hot days, ole George was rocking.. Things were hot,,,, and these guys were doing it now ! Actually sorry to see how it seems to be in the last days ..
I worked for Rick Higgenbottom and the Ozone road crew, hauling their band equipment around ... It was hot in the old days, I was 18 and got quite an education ..
