@GalufTheInvincible There are some reoccurring names (as you know) in FF. There's Biggs and Wedge, Cid and also Highwind (There may be more, but not that I can list of the top of the head) The fact they all have the same last name is probably just the reoccurring factor of the name "Highwind"

My guess for ricard and kain is that they shared the same last name, but their story seems to match, and not bbe referring to each other. It's tricky or we would have had references to firion, maria, guy, and leon. I don't know... ~_~

Im pretty sure FF9 was supposed to be a spin-off game that had roots to all previous FF games.. Which explains lots of referances to previous FF games throughout the.. erm game. At some point in production they decided to make it a full Final Fantasy game. I could be wrong however but im pretty sure i read about it years ago...

its not unusual for Final Fantasy to share a similiar songs, because they share the title and they have the same music composer from FFI to FFXIV .....except FFXII and FFXIII

i would say there's not an official connection, but all similarities between FF I and FF IX, although made as astistic references, makes FFIX being a direct sequel to FF I quite possible.

Again, i know that has never been confirmed, but it is the way i see these two titles connection.
