actually the movie came first on March 30 1988 while the cartoon came out on ABC on september 9 1989. most kids watched the cartoon as a child first and then the movie later when they got older so they usually think the movie came second

Movie was definitely first... it was the 80s and BJ was always kind of sweet on Lydia in the movie, so they just did a spin-off that kids would like (which we did). Saturday morning TV is mostly watched by little kids, so they certainly couldn't have made something that would give them nightmares, eh? This came on Nickelodeon for a while, I believe, after it was discontinued for Saturday morning television.
