If this technique is more efficient then the FINA rulebook needs to be rewritten. It's that simple. Or do we argue that swimmers should be forced to swim a slower, less efficient stroke.
By the way, I am not arguing that Alyfantis is not cheating, he is breaking FINA's rules. I argue that FINA's rules are retarded. Alyfantis's stroke is superior.
I remember doing this at an relatively respected open meet when i was 12 and escaping disqualification. Took off about 8 seconds on the 100, my coach went berserk though :D

the butterfrog!!!! aahhhhh i luv it! its a butterfly with breast recovery. he did only the first fly kick otherwise it would have been too obvious. of course they should have dq'd him since its outside the rules of breststroke, but i like the fact that he had the guts too show the world the concrete possibility of a new style.
this isnt breastroke. reguardless of what people say about progress and stuff, breastroke should stay with the traditional breastroke kick. this is embarassing
You are all fucking retarded ... go read FINAs deffinition of a whip kick ... this fucker is a filthy cheater and is ruining the sport I love simply by having his dirty time stand in world rankings ... and to the douche bag who said this is the "new style of breaststroke" false ... you are alowed 1 dolphin kick off of each wall ... not throughout the race ... don't speak about shit that you know nothing about ... you look foolish and I hope you feel it -- experience, 14 years comp. swimming.
he couldnt of been dq'd becuase if you look it isnt really dolphin kick it isnt coming from his hips he still raises his hips as if he is doing whip kick and does a down beat from the knee down... its smart because it gets rid of the possibility of knee injuries
As a former breaststroke swimmer, I found that butterfly kicks were faster over a short distance, but that you became tired very quickly. Thus, swimming a 200m or yard breaststroke in this manner would be pointless. However, over a 50 or even a 100, this could be a benefit. What I don't understand is why he wasn't disqualified. The kick is no where near legal.
Is this faster than the frog kick? That's not obvious to me. The dolphin off the wall is obviously an advantage, but not necessarily after you're into the stroke. (This isn't new, by the way. The butterfly was spun off the breaststroke in the 1950s because the rules were loose and swimmers were doing variations like this.)

I was racing at the meet that this happened. It was the Rome Seven Hills Meet, 2007.
He got booed by the crowd when he collected his medal, and Sprenger (who finished second) was celebrating as if he had won.

the way he swimes is the new style in breaststroke and you accuse him of been so fast. you scould be more longsighted and accept progress.

great just great haha xD

I'm tempted to try this in a meet to see how fast it is? I'm a horrible breaststroke kicker...

Kitajima is a innocent baby compared with this.
