I definitely believe that certain people are "more different" than others. Staying true to yourself, wearing/saying/doing what you want whenever you want, not giving in to peer pressure, or materialistic ideals, and lastly, listening to the music that YOU like, not what everyone else likes, that makes you a bit more unique than most. By that standard, I may sound like a narcissistic bitch, but I'm "NOT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE!"
@mattbmerry84 I also saw Mr. Ray Davies this year, wasn't the show AMAZING??!! I was also able to get his autograph after the show, which I'm still in disbelief over! :D Ray's so awesome, and definitely not like everybody else!
good music is good music who cares what emo hipster faggots relate to their time on this planet is fleeting at best along with any other hipster faggot
I always thought the verses sounded sad instead of boastful... "darling you know that i love you true, I'll do anything that you want me to. I'll confess all my sins like you want me to, but there is one thing that I must say to you."
@Cliner98 Shut the fuck up. That cover is so blandly straightforward that they should be shoved up their own assholes. The vocals blow, they don't have any of the sneering reediness of Ray Davies's voice, and the guitar before the solo is just so fucking weak. If you're going to do a song called "I'm not Like Everybody Else", don't sound like such a bland pussy.

never been a clone neither was einstein pretty good huh - I train to this - to beat the hoards the clones being an individual no matter what the cost - and die covered in glory not feces being a fucking sheeple !!
@highroadnow Great comment. This is my favourite Kinks song of all - and to say a song is better than Waterloo Sunset and Dead End Street is giving incredible praise. Love the lyrics , though I always feel the tone is downbeat rather than "up yours" defiant. But what always gets me is Dave's guitar sweeps - the most beautifully sad riffs ever played.
Written by Ray, lead vocal by Dave. Usually, whoever composed the song got to sing it. I guess Dave's voice was considered to have that extra degree of edginess necessary to put this number across to maximum effect.
You try walking up the west end from Peckham! Need a scooter mate or if you make it a JAAAAAAG. Going to see Ray this summer with a little known geezer called Bob Dylan. Oh yes I'm a happy bunny.
@punkaktion "I'm not like everybody else" is the conformist motto these days...confusingly enough....its a mad house...non conforming takes alot more effort these days, its understandable they don't even though they think they are...and im part of this generation that is not capable of running the planet..though i guess we all are to some degree..getting deep over here....*puff*
@punkaktion Kids try to be non "conformist". But that simple concept is ironic to the core as in acting non conformist they are in turn conforming to non-conformity. In case i lost you, they aren't speaking for themselves, instead they are trying to prove to someone that they don't follow trend, rather then liking something for what it is. As the band sum 41 said "If the beat moves your feet, then don't change the station."
compare nIRVANA to the Kinks well lets say you grunge wollers can keep your heads stuck up your Own arses an us MODS will just crack on without having to get to stired about about some spoty yank that cant be botherd about coming out of his own bedroom
Right about the Sacred Mushroom cover, but none from the group formed Pure Prairie League. Larry Goshorn (lead guitar) of Sacred Mushroom took over in Pure Prairie League for Craig Fuller while he did a two year stint in a hospital in lieu of military service. Sacred Mushroom only had one single in '67 and one album in '69. Good group that should have done more!
Don't care about any covers-not covers, this is hands down my favorite Kinks song. The lyrics are great, but the music's really what's superb here, especially the guitars in the middle part. And the singing also grabs you.
@TheOBAMATRON Its part of the identity, same principle applies to mods wearing parkers and having a fox tale on the back of the ped and a million lights on the front, it was about finding something to belong to, to be part of something new, bearing in mind we had just come out of rationing, teenagers of the 50’s and 60’s were like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a bombed out nation, they wanted to be different, not like there parents generation, I suggest you watch Quadrophenia.

Sure.
But freedom is as much in your mind as anywhere else.
A dull boy can have all the scooters in Babylon, yet still find himself trapped,if his heart doesn't burn.
Also,if it was just about freedom of motion, why the gang fights between them, and the folks who owned regular motorcycles?
And why all the extra dozens of stick-on mirrors?
Know what I mean?
