  • Mythbusters brought me here!

  • Found this as the closer of the documentary film " I Want That Record".

Too find out it's nearly 50 years old and by the Kinks ...well thats awesome!

  • This is SOLID GOLD! Love The Kinks!!

I definitely believe that certain people are "more different" than others. Staying true to yourself, wearing/saying/doing what you want whenever you want, not giving in to peer pressure, or materialistic ideals, and lastly, listening to the music that YOU like, not what everyone else likes, that makes you a bit more unique than most. By that standard, I may sound like a narcissistic bitch, but I'm "NOT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE!"

  • @mattbmerry84 I also saw Mr. Ray Davies this year, wasn't the show AMAZING??!! I was also able to get his autograph after the show, which I'm still in disbelief over! :D Ray's so awesome, and definitely not like everybody else!

  • If ever there was a song Ray Davies wrote that defines his legacy, this is it!

  • I think a photo of Kermit the Frog would have been much more suitable for a video.

  • just saw ray davies last night in MD. He was still rocking it.

  • Thumbs up if The Sopranos brought you here.

  • Great song! There is also a great cover by Jimmy And The Boys released in 1979.

  • This is FABULOUS!

  • Is this a video of a poster?

  • vid sux

  • good music is good music who cares what emo hipster faggots relate to their time on this planet is fleeting at best along with any other hipster faggot

  • I always thought the verses sounded sad instead of boastful... "darling you know that i love you true, I'll do anything that you want me to. I'll confess all my sins like you want me to, but there is one thing that I must say to you."

  • Comment removed

  • The lyrics of this are perfectly designed to appeal to those emo hipsters that everyone hates

  • @chaosandwalls Yeah I'm sure they wanted to encourage emo's when they wrote this 50 years ago. Dumb ass

  • I guess since It was Ray Davies who wrote the lyrics, he isn't like everybodyelse, is he?

  • Yes i SO AGREE....

  • "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" by The Kinks

  • I can't imagine a song more perfectly tailored to a self-hating attention seeking hipster audience

  • Who among us is like everybody else? :)

  • @Sooji78k if you think that then you are like everybody else.... n all this talk about non-confirmism sounds pretty fucking conformist to me

  • Australian band Jimmy and the Boys did a great version of this song in the late 70's.

  • Confirm your non-conformity.

  • Comment removed

  • Lmao!

I found this song after looking up lyrics I heard on McDonald's radio.

    How's that non-conformity?

  • you can hear the crackly record ticking away...wicked!!

  • @jordyboy321 no

  • Doesn't sound like the version in the Mythbusters advert though to me.

  • @tehbonce Any idea which version they use then because I agree and want to download it!

  • @tehbonce Any idea which version they use then because I agree and want to download it!

  • The fractured video arrangement fits the song's sensibility perfectly. Well done.

  • Trully a nice song, a fantastic band, but i prefer Chocolate Watch Band song's version.

    Rock rocks !

  • does anyone have the chocolate watchband version of this song !!!!! upload please!!!

  • classic song...... bummer its not on the album

  • @Cliner98 Shut the fuck up. That cover is so blandly straightforward that they should be shoved up their own assholes. The vocals blow, they don't have any of the sneering reediness of Ray Davies's voice, and the guitar before the solo is just so fucking weak. If you're going to do a song called "I'm not Like Everybody Else", don't sound like such a bland pussy.

  • @BornOnThe1stOfApril Um, that's Dave singing, not Ray.

  • I always thought the line "I won't say that I feel fine, cause im not like everybody else" was a little dig at The Beatles.

  • 1 guy are like everybody else

  • I believe this is Dave Davies singing the lead on this, and a true original like most Aquarians. Aquarians are different, and non conformist!

  • inoubliable

  • I LOVED this song when I this when I was a teenager, still LOVE it!

  • this song is actually quite funny

because everyone thinks they are not like everybody else

    everyone thinks they are special

ray in an interview commented on the hypocrisy of this song :D

    what a genius XD

  • 1 person is like everybody else.

  • I'm sorry but this pisses all over the Beatles.

  • Chris Spedding does a great cover of this song.

  • never been a clone neither was einstein pretty good huh - I train to this - to beat the hoards the clones being an individual no matter what the cost - and die covered in glory not feces being a fucking sheeple !!

  • this song makes me want to divorce my wife abandon my kids and kill five cops

  • @dirtylofi its triggered you may to much man and in a bad way lol get some help please dont go to jail for it

  • @dirtylofi don't divorce your wife or abandon your kids

  • that's Dave singing, right?

  • Hubble Bubble did an awesome cover of this.

  • great song, you should check out the Chocolate Watchband cover

  • @NewPaltzIndie I never knew they covered it. I love their awesome psychedelic sound...gonna definitely check it out, thanks for mentioning it!

  • is it possible to have a favorite Kinks song?

maybe not, but this is my theme song.....

how much more to the core of your being could lyrics go?

  • @highroadnow Great comment. This is my favourite Kinks song of all - and to say a song is better than Waterloo Sunset and Dead End Street is giving incredible praise. Love the lyrics , though I always feel the tone is downbeat rather than "up yours" defiant. But what always gets me is Dave's guitar sweeps - the most beautifully sad riffs ever played.

  • @highroadnow I've always considered this my theme song too! :)

  • @highroadnow my thoughts exactly, no its not possible to have a fav kinks song, but this track is so outstanding

  • This was also brilliantly covered by Peter Perrett on his solo record... One.

  • 1 dislike. What a twat.

  • @arcademod theres more ''punk'' stuff like this from 1966...kinda crazy really..especially teenage music from the time.

  • @arcademod theres more ''punky'' stuff than this from those days...kinda crazy really.

  • Like Joe Strummer from Clash.

  • Beautiful...........

  • This REALLY speaks for itself

  • Written by Ray, lead vocal by Dave. Usually, whoever composed the song got to sing it. I guess Dave's voice was considered to have that extra degree of edginess necessary to put this number across to maximum effect.

  • Incredible. I heard the song in the Sopranos

  • I think it's witten by Ray, song by Dave.

  • un temazo!!!

  • "I'm not gonna take it all lying down

Cos once I get started I go to town!"

    Now, that's telling em!

  • Also covered by Camper Van Beethoven, who couldn't get a copy of this version and had to use the Chocolate Watchband version to copy from!

  • You try walking up the west end from Peckham! Need a scooter mate or if you make it a JAAAAAAG. Going to see Ray this summer with a little known geezer called Bob Dylan. Oh yes I'm a happy bunny.

  • This song was about being a Mod (if you had long hair or trying too in 1966) you would understand.

  • my favorite song of all time, kids nowadays need more stuf like that so they can be less conformist!!!

  • im a "kid" but i love the kinks and beatles the most of all : )

but i never really got the whole conformist thing cuz all of us r different (belive it or not : )

  • @punkaktion

My 14 YO has it on his Facebook homepage. Got it from me, admittedly, but...

  • @punkaktion I heartily agree with you.

  • @punkaktion "I'm not like everybody else" is the conformist motto these days...confusingly enough....its a mad house...non conforming takes alot more effort these days, its understandable they don't even though they think they are...and im part of this generation that is not capable of running the planet..though i guess we all are to some degree..getting deep over here....*puff*

  • @punkaktion Kids try to be non "conformist". But that simple concept is ironic to the core as in acting non conformist they are in turn conforming to non-conformity. In case i lost you, they aren't speaking for themselves, instead they are trying to prove to someone that they don't follow trend, rather then liking something for what it is. As the band sum 41 said "If the beat moves your feet, then don't change the station."

  • Ray's story about beeing an outsider. Topdrawer! One of their best!

  • @pottersforever

Think the song is actually one of Dave's

  • @ktel60 really? interesting. why doesn't he sing it?

  • @pottersforever

This is one of Dave's tunes, IIRC

  • Best song of all time! The title says it all.

  • One of my anthems.

  • compare nIRVANA to the Kinks well lets say you grunge wollers can keep your heads stuck up your Own arses an us MODS will just crack on without having to get to stired about about some spoty yank that cant be botherd about coming out of his own bedroom

  • @aldemps hahaha well said. That made me laugh alot xx

  • multiversionada canción; gloria del rock british rock

  • although many have coverd this jam the kinks version is still best by far

  • Timeless classics will never die!

  • word

  • a lot of groups ended up covering this track. I'm surprised no one's mentioned chocolate watchband, my favorite version.

  • With you on that!

  • Right about the Sacred Mushroom cover, but none from the group formed Pure Prairie League. Larry Goshorn (lead guitar) of Sacred Mushroom took over in Pure Prairie League for Craig Fuller while he did a two year stint in a hospital in lieu of military service. Sacred Mushroom only had one single in '67 and one album in '69. Good group that should have done more!

  • Don't care about any covers-not covers, this is hands down my favorite Kinks song. The lyrics are great, but the music's really what's superb here, especially the guitars in the middle part. And the singing also grabs you.

  • @frentury I agree

  • this is pretty great for a hubble bubble cover.

  • this song was written before hubble bubble was formed

  • eh. my miscalculations.

  • In the Sacred Space when we get there...... perhaps one Day soon my Friend

  • Yeah,okay...Non-conformity!...Free thought for the masses!...And so forth.

But one thing I have never understood?

What's with the whole"vehicular transport" fixation of the Mod's?

    Does anybody Know?

If so,send a biiiiig flare over the southern-hemisphere for me,willya?

  • What's with the whole "vehicular transport" fixation of almost the entire Human Race...???

    It's a Race???? of Rats???

  • You can go where you wanna go when you wanna go there...

  • Sure.

But freedom is as much in your mind as anywhere else.

A dull boy can have all the scooters in Babylon, yet still find himself trapped,if his heart doesn't burn.

Also,if it was just about freedom of motion, why the gang fights between them, and the folks who owned regular motorcycles?

And why all the extra dozens of stick-on mirrors?

    Know what I mean?

  • @TheOBAMATRON Its part of the identity, same principle applies to mods wearing parkers and having a fox tale on the back of the ped and a million lights on the front, it was about finding something to belong to, to be part of something new, bearing in mind we had just come out of rationing, teenagers of the 50’s and 60’s were like a phoenix rising from the ashes of a bombed out nation, they wanted to be different, not like there parents generation, I suggest you watch Quadrophenia.

  • very god!

  • Definitive Kinks -- sung by Dave & Ray

  • GREAT
