@amisven Gaff folding up the orgami, is there to let you know that Deckard was under direct surveilance since the time he first met Rachel. Why would his boss send Gaff to spy on him from the get-go? The answer is because his boss LIED to him about the replicant M.O. and it is important for Deckard to not catch on too quickly. Deckard is supposed to shoot-to-kill without reflection, and Gaff is there to ensure that is what he does.
@centurion180ad It implies that Deckard is a replicant himself because they know his dreams. The dremas get implanted as the replicants are created. Gaff folding a unicorn ipmlies what you say but also that he is areplicant himself. It's a signal from Gaff to Deckard.
@Zadeass It implies that Deckard's immediate supervisor was spying on HIM, since the first time he met Rachel. Now why would he do that, unless what Deckard was told about the replicant M.O. was the obvious lie that it was, and his boss was ensuring that he hadn't caught onto that lie yet?
compare this trailer to the orginal trailer.... hands down the earlier one wins. this is like a parody of a trailer. is this a sign of how far humanity has degraded or just a joke?
@theartist124 I haven't seen the DVD extras and be interested in what they say, but my take on the symbolism was that it was a dream, and if Deckard was human then Ganz couldn't have known about it. But he did, and made a little origami unicorn. IMO it is not supposed to be a jump-up-and-down scream and point at it type clue, but rather elude to the possibility. That's my take. But I prefer subtlety.
Avatar doesnt have much chance of ageing well. The secret to Blade Runners eventual success, is that its deep and speculative themes were way ahead of its time, which costed it box office numbers but in return allowed it to become a touchstone of the Science Fiction and CyberPunk underground. Avatar was just an unsubtle rehash of the exact same plot and themes that Dances with Wolves gave us 22 years ago.
i like this version but i much prefer the original 1982 narrated version which has a more human theme to it and gives more of an explanation to the viewer ! fair enough this version has a nice twist finale! if they make a sequel which version will they ( or should they!) make a sequel to? they can't have one sequel to both versions since it would be contradictory and one version would be unfair to fans of the version which isn't made into a sequel!

well, not really. You can watch the orginal version from 1982 on DVD. It´s remastered but Rifley Scott´s Final Version ist by most the BEST Version of Blade Runner. Even more on Blue Ray :-)
One of my Top 10 favorite movies of all time and, IMO, the best science-fiction movie ever. Caught the "Final Cut" on the big screen in 2007. F'in fantastic!
@ScarPredator040365 The only really bad things about the original are the voice-over and the ending. The voice-over is just not needed, and the ending just doesn't fit the movie at all. This film bespeaks Oscars for: All of these categories. Best Special EFX Best Cinematography Best Costume Design Best Art Design Best Screenplay based on a written work Best Score Best Music Best Set Design Best Picture Best Actors Rutger Hauer, Harrison Ford Best Supporting Actors Joanna Cassidy Best Director Ridley Scott
@fendero123 No no no you were still in this world just the year was 2019 and you were in Los Angeles, a city with a population of a hundred million people a the time.
It depends on what you mean by "better" - if you want the original, to see it how it was screened with the voice over of Ford in the 80s, then do it. Any movie can be made better with time, budget and CGI. I saw this when it first came out in the 80s while I was at film school, and it was so different to the scif fi of the time. But like all great art, it hasn't aged with time; it's just gotten better. Watch all the versions and you decide for yourself.
@ScarPredator040365 - Normally I would agree with you. But the final editing of BLADE RUNNER was more problematic than most - and the studio imposed numerous changes that Ridley Scott did not want. The Final Cut restores it to what Scott intended.
The most obvious improvement is the removal of Harrison Ford's voice over narration - something both Scott and Ford both thought a mistake. Most of the other changes are minor and mostly involve cleaning up the sound and look. No CGI was added.
Yea I don't think LA is going to have big bulky monitors, big ass pyramid skyscrapers, and god knows smoking indoors in nine years. Would be awesome in some ways but I don't think so.
@WinstonMan1000 - Dick's was a dystopian vision of the future - a post (limited) nuclear war world, in fact. Scott tried to preserve much of that: an LA with dense pollution, acid rain, urban deterioration, genetic mutations, and severe social schism, with the wealthy living in large (pyramid-like) arcologies.
So it's a dystopia, a vision of what LA (and the world) could have looked like. Or might yet still - albeit further in the future. And it set the template for all dystopian films.
The Final Cut is better because it's closer to what Ridley Scott wanted it to be, without any forced narration, blatant explanation of the storyline, or other Hollywood studio interference.
@ScarPredator040365 The original cut is by no means unwatchable, and I certainly understand wanting to see the film the way it was originally shown (I've grown tired of the "director's/extended cut" trend myself). In this case, though, I think the "Final Cut" really is the best one. It flows the best, it looks the best (the new color timing is fantastic), and the new effects are mostly very subtle touch-ups to the original shots (unlike, say the Star Wars special editions). Hope that helps!
after watching it at home..and actually paying attention to more then just the amazing detail and background....i was like..eh. I can do without ever seeing again.
and that was on a dope ass HD flatscreen AND blue ray..
avatar is succesfull as an audiovisual masterpiece, as in its day was terminator2, but blade runner is much more than that, its concept as well as the script , the philosophy of life all together has no comparison
Yes, that's why it's so deep, the film has so many different levels, that level is essentialy not telling us anything , but is emohasing even more on how human the replicants are, the only reason they are not human is because "we say so" . It also gives the character more depth, how ever it is bot explored enough , personaly I thing Scott should have explored that part of the story even more or just cut it out. Praises but critisims for that idea ,
just got done watching this version of bladerunner...i've never seen blade runner before and i'm amazed at how every movie is a rip off of blade runner
I had never seen it before, heard about it before, and knew about it before so when I first went into the theater to see the Final Cut, I was blow away! *claps* best movie ever, EVER!
yer id agree with anotherschmoe, i think to do this movie justic likewise with many movies or literature you have to be ready for it, very cool movie though, only recently saw it, couldnt imagine it with narration, cool how its incredibly futuristic in one image then the next it's almost like a 40s detective movie, enjoyed this movie very much so
I don't know if this is been previously mentioned, but I find it odd that Clint Mansell's track Tree of Life from the movie The Fountain is the background song in these trailers....
Damn it, I want to like this movie but all three times I've seen it, at ages 15, 20 and 24 - i still think it's boring. Hope I'll appreciate it next time, cus I do like cyberpunk and neo-noir.
It's a great movie to me but I have to be in the right mood when I watch it. For example, it's not a movie I watch when I'm feeling all lively and awake and during the afternoon. I usually only watch this movie late at night when I'm alone when I'm winding down before bed. Not because it bores me, it just sets a better atmosphere for it IMO.
I hear you, it's all about mood and setting with some movies. Lost highway (David Lynch) has to be watched alone at night too, preferably when you're a little zoned out, sort of. Otherwise it doesnt do the movie justice , at all
At least you have good taste in movies! You have the same taste that I do! Here is a movie suggestion for you! Go out & buy John Carpenter's remake of The Thing starring Kurt Russel! A CLASSIC!!!
i personally am not into grose out horror films but i really think evil dead2 is a good one or even drag me to hell(not a classic but still greatness)
The Thing was amazing. Kurt Russel is the man no doubt. But i have a question; in this trailer for BLADE RUNNER, why is it that it says "The movie that started it all?"
Not sure why! It didn't start the Sci/fi craze that's for sure! It could be argued that the sci/fi craze started in the 1950s. Maybe they mean the cult classic Blade Runner started the Blade Runner cult following, because Blade Runner has a pretty good cult following
if you see a movie as an art..than blade runner is real art!
if you see a movie as entertainment than avatar and co is the right choose....
but blade runner is deep ...thats why not everybody enjoys the movie..most people like standard hollywood productions with love storys, standard soundtracks etc.
for me this movie is the best i have ever seen! an artfull masterpiece and this version improved a lot!
i couldn't really see what was so deep about blade runner unfortunately. artful sure but when i comes down to differences between humans and replicates and what makes us human,it seemed shallow. i cant think of how deep something like that can be. i cant think of why its so great please explain. no offense by the way good movie just not too good like i hoped.
Wait a sec! Now how old are you? You got to remember that Blade Runner was made during the early 80s. It's a classic! You're not supposed to look for any message in the movie. You're simply supposed to be entertained by Dekkerd's hunt for Replicants & of course be awed by the head Replicant Roy who was pretty dam cool in this movie. . .
critics only like movies if there is someing thats not so superficial in them. something for them to figure out and tell others. blade runner was not considered great when it came out cause people just looked at it from that superficial level of just a cop hunting down robots. but over time it was reconsidered because people started finding little mysteries in the movie and thing to figure out, such as is deckard a replicant of a human? and all these other things like what makes us human and all
What is the human experience? Remember how Roy's life, the things he's seen, eclipse anything Deckard has seen or done. He's lived, fallen in love, fought for survival, died.
What is our place in the universe? Could a thinking, feeling being exhibit characteristics more traditionally human than a "real' human?
Clearly, the replicants are very like us. Why then, does Deckard hunt them down so earnestly? How can what he is doing seem less than cold murder?
Roy ,He's lived, fallen in love, fought for survival, died. Deckard has also done all those too except for the last one. and plus deckards not a human he is a replicant as shown at the end with the unicorn.
the reason hunting down replicants doesnt seem so bad is possible cause Roy and all them killed 23 people like it says in the beginning. or am i mistaken?
Avatar? The anti-Blade Runner, the first is all special effect,it's the consumerism, the commerciality, the intellectual void, avatar is all Blade Runner want to accuse,a false world, made of concrete, hypocrite, where matter only the appearance and the loneliness advances of equal footstep to the tecnology, avatar is hypocrisy, money and panders ideas.
Avatar was good , it's plot was decent but predictable at times , but it is not the best film if 2009 , watchmen and district 9 being better , but blade runner us a master pice , it's strory is essentialy basic a cop Is looking for escaped replicants , but it's is brought to life by the depth of the characters , something avatar should realy learn from
@MrAsm195 There is absolutely no connection between Avatar and Blade Runner. As for the depth of the characters - how many characters in Blade Runner were fully developed? Were there any at all? The movie is driven by ideas and one of them is that we are losing our humanity, which was showed thanks exactly to the characters - none of them really seemed like fully fleshed out human beings, especially when compared to the replicants.
REALLY want to see this movie... when I get a better internet connection, is there any place that I could watch it online? Or maybe I'll just rent the Final Cut DVD... but there's no way my parents would let me watch a rated R movie due to their bullshit rules. <_<
There's ambiguity within the story - Mystical and familiar. That's what gives this movie longevity. Other films over-explain. This one will always flow like poetry.
@deckard97 Don't forget The Terminator. Forget fancy CGI effects, the stop motion used for the skeletal Terminator looks perfect! (Although its sequel is one place where CGI is used flawlessly)
But yes, I completely agree. The late 70s and all of the 80s were the best time for movies. Ever.
A university project is looking for participants in a study of Blade Runner. Please visit my profile for more info and for a link to the survey. Thanks!
This trailer makes it seem more action-packed and exciting than it is though, it's not even needed though, anyone who wants to watch this film, already has ;D
The Final Cut is amazing. I have the regular DVD version (don't have a BluRay player) but it just looks and sounds amazing even on my HDTV. One of the best looking DVDs I've seen and that's really saying something for a 1982 movie. The details and colors, darkness etc. really pop in the Final Cut and you can just spend hours going back and staring at the imagery and backgrounds of the city, plus the music is amazing. Great movie.
This is defiantely one of my favourite films - it is a brilliant movie, one of the best. However, I was disappointed that the final cut didn't change much. There was the additional violence, and some cleaned-up special effects, but by final CUT i thought they'd actually...produce a longer cut, with some of those delelted scenes in place. Oh well, it's perfect as it is. ^_^

Drjfever 1 year ago

WinstonMan1000 1 year ago

Npowell01 1 year ago
@ScarPredator040365 The original cut is by no means unwatchable, and I certainly understand wanting to see the film the way it was originally shown (I've grown tired of the "director's/extended cut" trend myself). In this case, though, I think the "Final Cut" really is the best one. It flows the best, it looks the best (the new color timing is fantastic), and the new effects are mostly very subtle touch-ups to the original shots (unlike, say the Star Wars special editions). Hope that helps!

avatar is succesfull as an audiovisual masterpiece, as in its day was terminator2, but blade runner is much more than that, its concept as well as the script , the philosophy of life all together has no comparison
keffren1 1 year ago
Actually Blade Runner is not underrated at all, it's a pretty popular movie.
And Avatar was awesome, but it was EXTREMLY predictable and some characters lacked depth and were too cliche-like.
I still enjoyed it, technically it probably is the best movie of 2009 but not because of the story or writing.
ClickForOutkast 1 year ago
Yes, that's why it's so deep, the film has so many different levels, that level is essentialy not telling us anything , but is emohasing even more on how human the replicants are, the only reason they are not human is because "we say so" . It also gives the character more depth, how ever it is bot explored enough , personaly I thing Scott should have explored that part of the story even more or just cut it out. Praises but critisims for that idea ,

hellspawnds 1 year ago
@hellspawnds:
AnotherSchmoe 1 year ago
I hear you, it's all about mood and setting with some movies. Lost highway (David Lynch) has to be watched alone at night too, preferably when you're a little zoned out, sort of. Otherwise it doesnt do the movie justice , at all

xstormsoldierx 1 year ago
The Thing was amazing. Kurt Russel is the man no doubt. But i have a question; in this trailer for BLADE RUNNER, why is it that it says "The movie that started it all?"
SpartanDfnder 1 year ago
Not sure why! It didn't start the Sci/fi craze that's for sure! It could be argued that the sci/fi craze started in the 1950s. Maybe they mean the cult classic Blade Runner started the Blade Runner cult following, because Blade Runner has a pretty good cult following
MrDarkmarius 1 year ago
Because Blade runner was actual a movie that was made in 1982.
since then there has been improvements and 3 more versions came out like 'the directors cut' and most recently 'the final cut'

if you see a movie as an art..than blade runner is real art!
if you see a movie as entertainment than avatar and co is the right choose....
but blade runner is deep ...thats why not everybody enjoys the movie..most people like standard hollywood productions with love storys, standard soundtracks etc.
for me this movie is the best i have ever seen! an artfull masterpiece and this version improved a lot!
andiwand111 2 years ago 4
@andiwand111
i couldn't really see what was so deep about blade runner unfortunately. artful sure but when i comes down to differences between humans and replicates and what makes us human,it seemed shallow. i cant think of how deep something like that can be. i cant think of why its so great please explain. no offense by the way good movie just not too good like i hoped.
xstormsoldierx 1 year ago
Wait a sec! Now how old are you? You got to remember that Blade Runner was made during the early 80s. It's a classic! You're not supposed to look for any message in the movie. You're simply supposed to be entertained by Dekkerd's hunt for Replicants & of course be awed by the head Replicant Roy who was pretty dam cool in this movie. . .
MrDarkmarius 1 year ago
critics only like movies if there is someing thats not so superficial in them. something for them to figure out and tell others. blade runner was not considered great when it came out cause people just looked at it from that superficial level of just a cop hunting down robots. but over time it was reconsidered because people started finding little mysteries in the movie and thing to figure out, such as is deckard a replicant of a human? and all these other things like what makes us human and all
xstormsoldierx 1 year ago
hha ha nerd
mudkipzfan545 1 year ago
whats so nerdy about blade runner?
xstormsoldierx 1 year ago
Some things to ponder are these:
What is the human experience? Remember how Roy's life, the things he's seen, eclipse anything Deckard has seen or done. He's lived, fallen in love, fought for survival, died.
What is our place in the universe? Could a thinking, feeling being exhibit characteristics more traditionally human than a "real' human?
Clearly, the replicants are very like us. Why then, does Deckard hunt them down so earnestly? How can what he is doing seem less than cold murder?
StarCreme 1 year ago
Roy ,He's lived, fallen in love, fought for survival, died. Deckard has also done all those too except for the last one. and plus deckards not a human he is a replicant as shown at the end with the unicorn.
the reason hunting down replicants doesnt seem so bad is possible cause Roy and all them killed 23 people like it says in the beginning. or am i mistaken?
xstormsoldierx 1 year ago

PatrickBateman47 2 years ago 5
Avatar was good , it's plot was decent but predictable at times , but it is not the best film if 2009 , watchmen and district 9 being better , but blade runner us a master pice , it's strory is essentialy basic a cop Is looking for escaped replicants , but it's is brought to life by the depth of the characters , something avatar should realy learn from
MrAsm195 2 years ago 33
@MrAsm195 Plus, the cop is actually a replicant himself - without knowing it! Like Rachel.
CombatRocks 1 year ago
@MrAsm195 There is absolutely no connection between Avatar and Blade Runner. As for the depth of the characters - how many characters in Blade Runner were fully developed? Were there any at all? The movie is driven by ideas and one of them is that we are losing our humanity, which was showed thanks exactly to the characters - none of them really seemed like fully fleshed out human beings, especially when compared to the replicants.

Ever.
