haha okc got them! GO THUNDER!!!!!! One thin the team and players r much happyer in oklahoma then ever. this year okc thunder will win it all and yall will end up with nothing.
Fully support the people from seattle, and the real sonics, you guys got robbed. Can't wait for a team to land in seattle again, and for you guys to destroy the thunder
Look I'm a Bulls-Fan, I'm greek and I live in Germany! The thing is, I'm still really angry that they took YOUR team away! Just for example, in Europe they would have never done something like this! Move a team to an other city, NO GO! There is no way they would have allowed to move any sports team (Basketball or Soccer/Football), for example teams like Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Regal Barcelona, Olypmpiacos Pireus, PAOK Saloniki..etc..!
In the U.S.A. this relocation can happen to any major sports team! I like what Sherman Alexie said, that if you guys in Seattle would get a team you would hurt people/fans from a other city because they would lose THEIR team! I'm also really angry when I see the success of the OKC-Thunder because this could have been the rebirth of the SEATTLE SUPERSONICS but you can't blame their fans or team, we all know who is the black sheep! Which team will be next??? Hopefully none!! Have a nice day!
@segadatabase Hup Holland Hup, Euro 2012 1st Round only have to watch out for Germany! My team the greeks may pack their bags after the 1st Round, no 2004 miracle hehehehe!
One other thing. Most Thunder fans do not want to claim past accomplishments and titles from the Sonics. I'm not sure why this was bought and paid for. We see the Thunder as a new team with a clean slate. It's not the Oklahoma way to share titles. We hate it when it happens in college football, and don't want it here. Seattle will receive another team in due time and should be named the Sonics.
@csrivalry The difference is that you have no idea how hard it is for to see Durant and the thunder making it to the playoffs after so long. It isn't a clean slate. We suffered as fans for years, just for the team to move away and start winning.
As a Thunder fan, I will say this: There are obviously three sides to this story. This documentary shows the Seattle fans point of view. It is also obvious that some factors are being left out. Like the relationship between Seattle and the NBA prior to the move.
Showing pictures of the OKC skyline from the 1970s and other unflattering photography of the downtown area demonstrates that the makers of this film wanted to make OKC look dumpy and small.
What's the most sickening is the shared history. I can't believe that the mayor would agree to that. Yes the Browns moved to Baltimore, but at least they kept the history and now have a team that's sell the Browns. Should be the same with the Sonics, but it won't be.
As long as the NBA requires a city to pay tax money for an arena, I hope the voters in Seattle will keep voting against it. There is no excuse for taking money away from education and healthcare to give it a pro sports team.
@cdg0219 the nba doesnt require tax money for a arena... they just wont pay for it themselves! and its just basketball? your joking right? watch Sherman Alexie towards the end... its much more then just basketball to alot of people! not sure where your from and what basketball means to your fans... but here its alot more then "just basketball"!
@Resistance119 I'm greek, I'm playing and watching this beautiful game for 19 years and to me as you say it is more than just the game of basketball it is a way of life!
@cdg0219 I hope you take that same logic and apply it to big business and banker bail outs. There is no excuse for a city letting an NBA team leave. Also, last time I checked giving money to schools is not the same as providing good education. All because you build a new building with some MSFT name does not a good education make. Your money is being wasted on education too. Ron Paul for Prez
@cdg0219 no one ever cared about Seattle? what did you just watch? interviews from the people who helped keep the sonics alive for 41 years! "sonics fans" are no different then any other fans who would act the same way like Sacramento and New Orleans are right now! and in the end this is all part of a bigger picture to keep the hope alive and to get a new team very soon! damn, what a stupid comment you just left! lmao
@cdg0219 it looks like david stern is close to retiring... so i think it would be a little different! and it has nothing to do with the nba... i just want to see the lakers and the heat in town, hell even the thunder... i cant wait till the day the come play the "new sonics"! also i dont blame the nba as much as i blame Seattle and Washington politics!

@mrceebees14 I think Nickels because he was ELECTED and had a real obligation to do right by Seattle. accepting the deal was a total SELLOUT. Bennett was a businessman what do you expect.. Nickels "was" a political, was being the key word there.. WOOT.
@CampJones After reading more and watching more, is it possible that Nickels was TOLD by the Stern that "Clay is going to give you $75 million, but you are only going to GET $45 million of it." As if to further the "you will never ever get another NBA team here in Seattle," if you take that 30 million when the time comes to cash in.
Nickels turned into a coward, he let himself get bitched, instead of standing his ground, he would be a freaking hero in Seattle now.
@mrceebees14 I agree with the hero status. What sealed the deal for us was hearing that the the mayor had already been in settlement talks prior to the trial. Meaning that the trial was just a fucking show and a waste of tax payer dollars.
It is more likely that the settlement was around $75 million b4 trial started. then after the lambasting Clays lawyer gave the city the were ok with the new deal that had them MAYBE getting more money later if we didn't get a team.
@mrceebees14 they even took the chairs and tables and the mascot. they just put horns and hooves on Squatch and turned him into rumble the bison(same dude in the suite)
@CampJones Didn't know that, that seems like it could be personal, but they could say "we are only trying to get our ball club running as fast as possible."
And if I was commissioner of the NBA I would only let teams relocate if they never won an NBA Finals but teams like Portland, boston, Miami, Los Angeles would never leave because of their history AND championships. but teams like New Orleans, LA Clippers, Orlando would have a right but if I was commissioner of the NBA
I love my New Orleans Hornets but I would give it to Seattle because we have no history of what so ever and plus we got the Saints so the Hornets could bounce
@saintswarrior9 I like your honesty! But don't you think that will also hurt some people in your area if they took the team, I mean people were mad/disappointed when the Charlotte Hornets became the New Orleans Hornets! Greetings from a greek living in germany! Have a nice day!

So just don't hate on the team. The Sonics are ours. Thumbs up so everybody can see and post this on other sonics vids.
I think the NBA will return to Seattle soon enough. Seattle is a large market and will be able to handle it, like we did for 41 years! Lets bring our Sonics back!
I feel truly sorry for what the Sonics fans had to put up with.
As an A's fan, I can't help but think that the exact same thing is going on right now with the Oakland Athletics. No thanks to Lew Wolff and Billy Beane, the A's are being forced out of Oakland just so that Wolff could build a crummy stadium in San Jose. I wish Seattle the best and I hope that you can help the A's stay in Oakland (even though it's an MLB team).
Just watched this video. Let me preface what I'm about to say is Seattle deserves to have the Sonics again. Now, on to my comment. This "documentary" should have been titled "How to lose an NBA team". Many mistakes were made in Seattle:
- poor fan support lead to the franchise losing money
- bad (and clueless) ownership making worse decisions for the "betterment" of the franchise
- lackadaisical city & state govt officials could care less If those points can be fixed, the Sonics will be back.
@kingpen71 To continue... saying the Sonics were stolen and that Oklahoma (Bennett group) are thieves is highly unfair. I understand it was an emotional time, but anytime a city (fans & govt) doesn't support a pro team, the franchise (business owners) lose money. They are forced to consider moving. It was inevitable. It was either going to be OKC or someone else who wanted the franchise more than Seattle.
Fascinating story. It seems none of the major players delt in good faith. They were all dishonest in one form or another, with the exception of the poor fans. This story is just a microcosm of what's going on in our world today. Everything is a big lie or at least suspect. How someone, like Clay Benett could look at the whole world in the eye , tell a huge lie and still look at themseves in the mirror just shows what happens when you don't have God to answer to.
A bunch of whiny, obscenely wealthy, over-privileged assholes crying about not getting a publicly funded stadium has got to be one of the most disgusting things ever. Fuck publicly funded stadiums. I'm glad the Sonics are gone.
The NBA is completely F'ed up system. The fact that they would hold, cities, franchises, fans, and taxpayers hostage over their opinion of an unviable arena is a complete disgrace. As many as 5 MLB teams are playing with horrible arenas. As many as 5 or more NFL franchises have subpar stadiums. Yet, these franchises can still make money? FUCK YOU DAVID STERN! THE KEY WAS AND IS THE GREATEST ARENA TO WATCH A GAME WHEN THE SONICS ARE WINNING!!
1:52:32 This part got me fuming. I don't care what it says on paper, the Seattle Supersonics will always be a part of Seattle, the people of Seattle and Washington, and the northwest region. Not OKC, and damn sure not Clay Bennet.
@greenmatrix151023387 I can see why many people think Vancity will never get a team again but we are worth a look from the NBA. Vancouver has changed so much since the Grizz left town and the population has grown(and diversity). There is a larger interest in Basketball. Plus we have a rare situation that most cities don't have: Good ownership willing to purchase a team(Canucks Sport and Entertainment) and a arena to play in.
The Sonics are not my first choice for a team because I'm not from Seattle, but since the squads would be the same (and therefore the talent and success and everything else), I'd rather have the Sonics with their color scheme, jerseys and building, compared to OKC. Seriously. I really hate OKC's orange blue and white...it just doesn't look good. The Sonics' yellow and green was so cool and looked better.
I think it's funny how the "Save Our Sonics" guys wanted the team in Seattle yet if you asked them to pay more taxes to get the necessary renovations to keep the team they would stand up and fight it. Quit asking the government to put money into everything and so something for yourself for a change if you want your team then fight for it and be willing to put forth some money to make it happen. Dont just wine and bitch until you get your hand out. People like that make me sick.
cant believe he even SOLD the Trophy ,The Jersys and..like the complete history along with the name and all.. G SUS CHRIST !! FUCK that.. Wake UP america.. u CANNOT "SELL" history and legacy. Capitalism is going too far..way too far.
@redsoxfan1984 Ever wonder why they sold the Storm asap? Have you seen the documentary GASLAND? That is basically Aubrey McClendon's business. Injecting hazardous materials into the ground to cause fractures in the deep rock thus releasing trapped natural gas. More times than not they do this around a water supply. Watch Gasland too..
Doesn't look like there's going to be a team in Seattle by 2013, and it's just sad. I've been a Laker fan all my life, and what I grew up with is the NBA in Seattle. This whole deal just sucks, and the city of Seattle deserves a team.
I feel your guy's pain. I live in the LA area and I've been without an NFL team since the Rams left in the 90's :(. If Winnipeg can get their hockey team back, why can't LA and Seattle get the Rams & Sonics back?
Stern just happened to have good fortune/destiny/fate that he took over the league when arguably most of the top 25 players of all time came into the league, especially one particualar fellow from North Carolina.
Uh, it's quite simply this. Schultz = Sellout . If you have a billion dollars, you can afford to not only buy a professional sports franchises but also build brand new up to date state of the art facilities. Jerry Jones built a billion dollar stadium in Dallas, it is possible & its not rocket science. Cities should NEVER I mean NEVER be held liable for footing any of the bill for an arena. Not a dime.
Think about it this way. If you live in Seattle like I do,Do not drink starbucks our you support the removal of the sonics. I normally go to woods coffee, or bigfoot. Its a small chance though this mega franchise will never go bank rupt though we do have a choice.
The purchase was made with the knowledge they wouldn't get tax payer support for the facility they claim they needed, which is why they made a play for the team. Brilliant business move by fabulously corrupt men.
Hey Sonics fans keep your heads up please!! hey i'm a senior at highschool and seeing this makes me real sad I wouldn't want this to happen to my New Orleans Saints later on But hear me out Sonics fans I will be the one that will bring this team back later on just be patience guys!!!!!!! :)
damn im not from or a fan of the sonics, but how can you shit on an organization will good history, awesome colors and a sweet fan base? and replace them with a team called the thunder lol.
coming from a heat fan (not dickrider like the other 85% now) i feel bad for you guys 41 years of history gone to OKC i been watching there games latly rooting for them but after seeing this i just might stop. i not going to support that asshole owner.
when you guys get a team i be sure to root for you guys with the heat and buy tickets 1 day for a game
It must feel like giving birth losing a team you support fervently and loyally like that, and then have it succeed with two All-NBA caliber players in another city. Thank god the SUN rises and sets in Phoenix.
@manfulify Well, have more than 6,000 people show up every night. If the team doesn't make money, it won't stick around. Ask the Expos or North Stars.
Mark Cuban and Paul Allen were the only two owners to vote against the move. Paul Allen's vote makes sense as Portland is so close to Seattle and could potentially lose fans had he voted for it. Mark Cuban is clearly just awesome and unafraid of David Stern.
Someone needs to go rightfully reclaim all sonics era merchandise ( Championship banners - The '79 trophy etc ) Those items should be on display for Sonics fans to see in SEATTLE!
Seattle will never get another team. The progressives wont build a new basketball palace. Go Blazeers! Every game is televised on Comcast channel 179
When the Jazz played the Sonics in the 1996 playoffs my dad went to one of the games in Seattle he said it was unreal how loud and passionate the Sonics fans were. I can only imagine how loud it must have been. The Uah Jazz are known for having one of the loudest arenas in the nba so for my dad to say it was unreal is crazy.
I just finishing watching the movie and I have some things to say. I understand how the fans of Seattle must feel. My family has had full season tickets or half season tickets to Utah Jazz Games since I can remember I am now twenty-one. if the Jazz just left Utah it would be crushing to many people in the state of Utah including myself.
A truly fascinating and inspirational documentary. I think that it does well to highlight the four villains: Schultz, Nickels, Bennett and Stern. Also, we see the true victims, the city of Seattle. Just seeing that megasale at the end with the guy with the carboard cutout of Kevin Durant tells the whole story. I hope that one day the city of Seattle can host NBA again because it's a great basketball city and deserves to have an NBA team.
i love this film, this shows how greedy and evil stern is, i strongly belive seattle needs a team. this is coming from a kings fan. we were almost moved as well.
Might be one of the saddest films I have ever seen. And I shake because I live in San Diego. We may go through the same as all the PPL in SEA because of the Chargers. But we are not even close to how the Sonics,no Supersonics where to a city.I would love for you guys to have a team again, but at the same time I don't want to see MIL,SAC,NO ect to feel that pain like you guys.Only thing;if you guys got the Thunder back in Seattle and called them "SEATTLE SUPERSONICS"
Fuck Clay Bennett and Stern. There's a blatant empty space above Portland on the current map of teams. Sad shit. Hope they're back within the next decade and they beat the Thunder in the WCF.
this is really sad...lack of tact towards the fans: OKC claims ALL of Sonics history/records and the 'chip (!!!!)...this is trully proposterous...not only they took away the team (as they can apparently do) , they left scorched earth and the Sonics "context" forever condemned...I wish there was a way a Green Bay-publicly-owned would be formed as the Sonics (ala CLE Browns) and sign back KD as a free-agent...that would be poetic justice
what i think should happen is they should bring the sonics back and have em with that the marroon and green logo and space needle as the i have 6 teams in the northwest division reinnovate key arena or build a new arena
@jgknicks5 all commishners are like that. they dont give a damn what the fans think. they care about the owners wants and needs. and they hope by makeing the owners happy, they will make the fans happy. bunch of overpaid jerks...
At the Auto Row site, the Sonics would have the difficult task of negotiating with multiple property owners because no one owner has the 15 to 30 acres needed to build an arena.Bellevue developer Kemper Freeman, who has worked closely with the Sonics' new owners, said the owners have "keen interest in at least one" site. Last month, he said the new arena would most likely be built in the Bel-Red Corridor, the site of the Safeway and Coca-Cola properties.
Safeway agreed this fall to sell the south half of its land to Wright Runstad, a Seattle development firm, and a San Francisco company. Safeway is keeping the north half for its ice-cream factory.
It will be in New Orleans Hornets will be the next Seattle SuperSonics. About the arena.. One of the leading sites in Bellevue is still the old Safeway distribution center east of Interstate 405, near Bellevue-Redmond Road. The 75-acre site is close to three freeways and is part of a 900-acre stretch of aging warehouses and office parks the city wants to redevelop. The team also has looked at the city's "Auto Row," a string of dealerships along 116th Avenue Northeast, just east of I-405.
I haven't drank Starbucks since they've been sold....Fuck Howard Schultz! Fuck David Stern even more!!!!!! FUCK Clay Bennett even fucking more!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Excuse the language, I'm fucking pissed at the whole ordeal)
Not a Sonics fan but always liked the team they were my team in video games, and this video does not just prove that Seattle deserves a team but of the corruption and the fact that the NBE (National Basketball Entertainment) is only interested in $ and not true bball fans this is why they are in so much trouble right now. I love Seattle and they deserve a team, but neither side was right in this case, I donated $ and bought a shirt I hope something can be done. -Gideon Cavallo Cavs & Celtics fan
As a Thunder fan I am obviously happy that all of this went down. But I do feel for the Seattle fans who got thrown under the bus. I'm glad that OKC changed the mascot and colors because the name Sonics deserves to stay in Seattle. We also do not hang any of the Championship banners in our arena because we realize that Seattle won them and not us. I hope you guys get the Sonics back because the Seattle Supersonics vs the OKC Thunder would be a great rivalry.
Sonics fan for life. It was a family tradition and going to games was the single most memorable thing of my childhood. History was wrongly stripped away from us and this great documentary shows how ego, power, and money of individual men ALWAYS seems to beat out the hearts of the majority. I'm now at Columbia University in New York and have become a Knicks fan since I need some home-team to root for, but my heart will always be for Seattle. And I'm NEVER changing my screenname.
haha okc got them! GO THUNDER!!!!!! One thin the team and players r much happyer in oklahoma then ever. this year okc thunder will win it all and yall will end up with nothing.

TheMCcane 1 month ago
Just watched this video. Let me preface what I'm about to say is Seattle deserves to have the Sonics again. Now, on to my comment. This "documentary" should have been titled "How to lose an NBA team". Many mistakes were made in Seattle:
- poor fan support lead to the franchise losing money
- bad (and clueless) ownership making worse decisions for the "betterment" of the franchise
- lackadaisical city & state govt officials could care less If those points can be fixed, the Sonics will be back.
kingpen71 1 month ago
@kingpen71 To continue... saying the Sonics were stolen and that Oklahoma (Bennett group) are thieves is highly unfair. I understand it was an emotional time, but anytime a city (fans & govt) doesn't support a pro team, the franchise (business owners) lose money. They are forced to consider moving. It was inevitable. It was either going to be OKC or someone else who wanted the franchise more than Seattle.
kingpen71 1 month ago

Just by being bottom in attendance, you have a chance of losing your team.
well, statistically speaking, their will always be a team at the bottom.
a city will lose their team as result of,
then build a new modern arena,
then another arena will be out of date and have "low" attendance,
their team will be forced to move to the one who originally lost their team,
then they will build a new arena,
and it will all repeat; NEVER ENDING CYCLE.

RickhatesScott 3 months ago
If the Bulls where going to leave Chicago I would do everything in my power to keep them including pay more taxes.
D92Studios 3 months ago
I think it's funny how the "Save Our Sonics" guys wanted the team in Seattle yet if you asked them to pay more taxes to get the necessary renovations to keep the team they would stand up and fight it. Quit asking the government to put money into everything and so something for yourself for a change if you want your team then fight for it and be willing to put forth some money to make it happen. Dont just wine and bitch until you get your hand out. People like that make me sick.

Not a dime.

I hope that one day the city of Seattle can host NBA again because it's a great basketball city and deserves to have an NBA team.

this is really sad...lack of tact towards the fans: OKC claims ALL of Sonics history/records and the 'chip (!!!!)...this is trully proposterous...not only they took away the team (as they can apparently do) , they left scorched earth and the Sonics "context" forever condemned...I wish there was a way a Green Bay-publicly-owned would be formed as the Sonics (ala CLE Browns) and sign back KD as a free-agent...that would be poetic justice

Last month, he said the new arena would most likely be built in the Bel-Red Corridor, the site of the Safeway and Coca-Cola properties.
mlemour 6 months ago
Safeway agreed this fall to sell the south half of its land to Wright Runstad, a Seattle development firm, and a San Francisco company. Safeway is keeping the north half for its ice-cream factory.
mlemour 6 months ago
It will be in New Orleans Hornets will be the next Seattle SuperSonics. About the arena.. One of the leading sites in Bellevue is still the old Safeway distribution center east of Interstate 405, near Bellevue-Redmond Road. The 75-acre site is close to three freeways and is part of a 900-acre stretch of aging warehouses and office parks the city wants to redevelop. The team also has looked at the city's "Auto Row," a string of dealerships along 116th Avenue Northeast, just east of I-405.
