  • I have been watching a few "one arm pushup" videos and they all have one leg way out wide for balance, which I can do without much of an issue. How much harder is a regulation one arm pushup?. Please bear in mind I`m only 16. Thanks

  • dead kennedys!!

  • Thank God someone actually knows how to do correct 1 arm pushups, everyone I've seen is like "yeah I can do those no problem!" and end up getting down and twisting their body in some freakish triangle, wobbling up on weak arms to get one sloppy "push up". You're one of the few elite!

  • Doing proper one-arm pushups the same way you do proper regular pushups or a proper bench press is really hard, I have not seen anyone do it so far. Even demonstration clips put their arm too far forward and twist the body to recruit the shoulders and triceps more. Glad someone is trying though. (I don't think it's physiologically impossible, you'd just have to be able to bench press around twice your body weight while lowering the weight to under your chest, strict).

  • Well done. Properly done. Proper one arm pushups are really core exercises. Hey try this: your regular shoulder width pushup, but such that when you are in your regular fingers-pointing-forward position your thumbs are pointing approximately horizontally at your navel rather than at your upper chest. In other words, you're pushing up from the hips. Some people point their palms backward but I don't. Elevate legs and go again. Elevate legs on ball and go again.

  • how do your elbows not explode from doing this ? lol

  • This is crap.

  • Now that is a REAL one arm pushup.

  • lol how the hguy at the back nearly died lifting up that dumbell LOL

  • Awesome and incredible!

  • when are we going to see the regulation perfect one arm handstand push up

  • Hey Jim I saw the video of your first attempt, but now it youtube says it has been removed. What happened?

  • @YTvoyeur1 I took it down. I thought that this showed closer technique to what they wanted.

  • Hey Jim - Very nice attempts here. I suspect that whoever wrote the description of the "regulation perfect one arm push up" couldn't do one. I'm not convinced that doing a OAPU on the floor with absolutely no side to side bending is even possible. It's probably possible on a bar because you can use your grip to stop yourself from tipping to the side. But probably the goal should be to do the best OAPU you can on the floor.

I think the way you do them in your tutorial is just fine.

  • Nice! Probably the best OAP on youtube. But why do you use a bar?

  • hey jim.. if you dont mind can you make a progession tutorial for the one arm pushup with feet together?

  • Dude's doing work in the back

  • I am seriously impressed. how can I train to learn how to do this?

  • Dude nice, I've never seen anyone do one handed push ups with their feet that close together.

  • ur struggling to do 1 pushup?

then u shouldnt prolly make a video about this

  • @casketofdog One handed push ups are difficult, especially when your feet are that close together, unless you can do more than one, with your feet that close together, I suggest you don't tell people they should do something they are perfectly capable of doing.

  • @Marco8covarrubias Thanks Marco. This video was to try and beat some competition to do the "perfect" one arm pushup, without any body twist. The rules were a bit convoluted, imho.

  • not exactly perfect...

  • i can do 6 of those but i am 60kg

  • Yep these are definately the ones! They seem like they require more strength than the first ones, look much cleaner too.

  • thumps up if you got distracted by the guy in the background lifting that weight XD

  • wow massive vain on your neck!

  • Your amazing man, can you tell me about Paul Wade?

  • nice one, many people take the straddle to the max in 1-arms and it makes it so easy

That is NOT EASY, true one arm, nice!

  • body curved on the 2nd attempt. Can't you do this already? its on your tutorial showing the arm in method

  • ive been practicing these to and what you need to do is do it ina diamond position then take one hand off. yous the other hand for ballance.

  • 1-arm pushups, snatches in the background. I like this gym!

  • @YunTraining That would be my buddy and Oly lifting coach, Mike, in the background. Snatches, cleans, squats, and deadlifts pretty much occur throughout the entire day at the gym. I love it.

  • Really nice attempt! I'm gonna challenge every person I know who think they're hardcore!

  • Great!!!!

  • I posted some video of one arm push ups feet together, among them :"20 one hand push ups, feet together" and "15 one fist push ups, feet together".Doing one arm push ups feet together without twist torso would be a very oustanding job, I don't know if it is possible, maybe it needs starting with arm on a bar, like in your video.I will try it.Congratulations for your video and thanks for inspiring me to try to do one arm push ups in this way, even if It will be very very difficult to do it!

  • How I wish I lived in DC, your videos are all in fantastic looking gyms.

  • @drdude720 I love my gym. Been there about 5 years now. Balance Gym in the Kalorama neighborhood of D.C. - Stop on by if you're in the area!

  • Hey, beastskills, how much do you weigh? I figure this kind of skill is easier to do if you've got a triathlete type body, <150 lb, less muscle bulk but less weight overall as well.

  • @Yessj I'm 175-180 lbs right now. I never want to have to lose muscular weight to do an exercise.

  • That looks damned good Jim. I think this variation is more along the lines of a "regulation" oapu, the other one is much more "tiger bend" style.

    bobbyatopk,

I haven't seen anyone perform a rep that strict either, but Jim's vid shows that it is definitely possible, just really freaking hard.

  • nice dude.

can you do a one arm push up, legs together and without your back bending to the side. (basicaly just super good form so it looks like a normal push up but without the other hand).

i think its a hard challenge, but maybe impossible because of balance.

  • @bobbyatopk The definition of the skill is very convoluted. That's the hardest part. After each video I'm submitting it for review and trying to figure out what I did wrong.

  • @beastskills im not sure if what i was describing is actually a RPOAPU (i had never heard of it tbh) but i was just interested if you could do what i suggested because i don't think i have ever actualy seen any one do a good one arm pushup with legs together !

any way nice to see you uploading vids, keep it up

    :D

  • I'd say you're pretty much there! Can't imagine it would be much harder off the floor, as your feet are elevated to the same height at the bar already. Good luck!

  • 'kin hard core. Seriously well done.

  • great improvement man

you will get it next time

    im a fair way off

  • @BoDzor What else do you think I need? Off the rack?

  • it looks as if your still twisting a bit on the way up, i think with a bit of practice you can minimize/remove the twisting

Maybe if you shift your weight slightly more towards the pushing arm it will be more stable

  • nice!

  • You're a beast Jim!

  • BEAST, anything to say :D

  • I know how hard it is. Respect bro! 5/5

  • I'll get there one day...
