Please, Dr. Bandler, lose the pony tail! It is beyond awful looking! There is nothing worse than a late middle age man with a pony tail! That is so early 80's. Yuck!
I want to like the guy, but dude is creepy. I'm gonna go ahead and read Trance-Formations anyway because I enjoy the beginning and I believe I will learn something extremely valuable from it. It's just a little frustrating to watch videos of Bandler and Grinder and other NLP-ers who come across as so stilted and contrived in their actions and words -- because I want to be captivated by them and have a sense of trust, not just feel their manipulative. I see little peace of mind in them.
Bandler was fortunate he got training from one of the greats. Erickson was literally one of the most progressive minds in hypnosis that we've ever seen. Bandler's synthesis of his ideas are interesting, albeit I believed not a true continuation of the spirit of Erickson. Bandler hits it close, but not on the mark. I wouldn't consider him the next scion of hypnosis.
I do love Bandler and Grinder's Structure of Magic II and Bandler's Magic in Action but Erickson had such an incredibly integrated system, that I don't know how anyone could follow in his footsteps. BUT Bandler and Grinder had a natural interest prior to meeting Erickson and luckily they carry on an incredible science.
gbwilliams88 if you knew what you were talking about, which you are apparently not, you would realize with eaze how richard bandler techniques creates opportunities instead of limitations every time. But if you want to stay limited, thats your choice! If not read 'Use your brain for a change', try it out!, and THEN comment. Cheerio (and Richard if anyone has the right to be calling himself a doctor that can help people get better WITHOUT being pumped full of drugs, which isn't really helping)
I thought it was illegal to impersonate a doctor. This opportunist has been advertising himself as a "Dr." for many years. NLP is a scam. There are some very interesting parts of it that sound so new and practical that people are drawn in, but most of it is just a bunch of psycho babbling that the "Dr." himself doesnt even believe in; if he did, he wouldnt be the person he is, he could actually get it together. Read about this guy, it is very interesting...
lol have you ever heard of "dr phil"? he's more mainstream so he should be the bigger "scam". Bandler gets a lot of results just because he's not afraid to try what seems so obvious. Like a coma victem rather than whisper and play sedative music, he puts on audio of a phone ringing and some guy "HEY CAN YOU GET THAT!"
Whether or not it's real people could learn a lot from Bandler
Your just a jealous phycologist dude, and I have news for you if you create an entire field you are considered a Dr. of it no one is better than you after all. Now go get your headshotte. Phycology is the only load of bull crap I smell. <3 richard bandler.
i agree Scotchpker I dropped out of psychology, became an NLPer instead, realised that my life woud be better with a phd and went back to achive my goal, no failure only feedbakc i've learn psychology is all bullshit and theory but hey i need to qualification to really help people legally.
Be grateful for the little moments you've had during the start of it. Consider the moments that made you laugh, smile, achieve and connect with others better. These little moments are the peak experiences of our lives that draw us closer to finding true happiness and inner fullfillment.
So carry these pleasant memories with you into the near future as a reminder of what your self-esteem is really about...
All the best in the world and have an enjoyable and week!
Exactly right, Bandler claims to be able to "cure" many of the problems that he himself has, and in just a few minutes. For so many years he has said he can cure phobias in minutes where years of traditional therapy has failed. In these two videos he says "its going to take time", totally contradicting what he has ALWAYS said about NLP and its ability to cure in minutes. He thinks we are all stupid, and many are, like those who believe in this QUACK!
VERY WELL PUT. NLP works very well for 'low level' phobias (single trigger[stimulus], single response). Phobias can have multiple triggers. Although he phobic stimulus>response pattern can be interrupted and broken by NLP, if the belief behind the phobia isn't destroyed, that belief will regenerate a new phobic stimulus>response.
All people are different and as such will take different amounts of time to integrate the new behaviour.
I hear the 'NLP works fast' card pulled for both sides of this argument quite often. I think that compared to months of therapy for a phobic response, a day or two is quite fast. And yet some are over and done with in 10 minutes or half an hour. NLP is about wat works and as we all experience things differently all change work is different. Just an idea you understand.
Bandler once talked about a colleague (NLP) of his who would become so engrossed in being effective, she would, in the event of having a "case she couldn't crack" amidst a seminar, never stop---hours and hours and hours---with attendants falling asleep and the like. I forget her name. In any case, yes, NLP works, and I would agree that a non-stop, 9-hour session is indeed fast.
Bandler is just too cool ;) . I use his techniques on myself and they've made me be able to tell stories which I've never really been able to do before (using visualising sub's better experience than it should be towards myself as speaking, creates a good feeling in my chest when I do it). Cheers

It's more likely Bandler has less ego in the psychological sense, as he has a greater capacity for lessening the line that separates people.

In order to be called a doctor you just need a doctorate and even though he might not have a medical degree he still cures people.

Not all NLP processes happen immediately. The fast phobia cure works fast, but only on phobias that have a simple structure.
In this case, this woman had a complex form of panic attack that will take time to generalize.
