I play ball hockey in a huge rink on cement, so a lot of running. The lunges and squats (I did not try yours) have helped me so much. I'm move so much more quickly now.

The often advise people to keep your abs in very tight to protect your lower back. Is it good advice?
yes, but keeping your abs strong, your lower back will have lighter load to bear.
