  • Hi, just two quick questions for a iPhone 3G owner actually in the UK (Thank you!). Question 1: Does it cost anything to use this GPS, direction, maps ect. stuff on the iPhone 3G? And question 2 is not really related to this video but when you are at home, is it possible to connect to a home network or home hub ect. and then use the Safari browser ect. for free? Basically, is it free to use the internet on you iPhone 3G at home? Thanks in advance, Elliot.

  • I think access to these applications on the iPhone is free. Most mobile phone providers offer "unlimited internet usage" into their packages, but there is a catch, if you exceed a certain amount of downloading, you are restricted under the "Fair Usage Policy" which most of these companies have in small print. Technically, the use of these applications are free, but usea huge amount of bandwidth. I think this only applies to wireless networks such as 3G, so home networks don't apply to this limit.

  • So if i use T-mobile and want to use the GPS feature, how does that work?

do I need to subscribe to their internet service to get the the map?

so the phone has gps built in but without a "data plan" I wont see the map? just a blue dot moving?

can you elaborate on those questions? thank you

  • The map application is free... The edge and 3g thing is when you get your data plan... Everything works.. But you need edge and 3g.. Which is internet but without wifi

  • which train are you taking? i take southeastern everyday.

btw, there are no extra charges from o2 to use gps right?

  • i take the SE too, im in folkestone, u?

  • well you don't actually need a connection to the internet for gps to work but without it you won't see the map.

There are no on-board maps on the iphone like on Tom-Tom

  • do you need internet on the iphone for the gps?

  • so can u actually search for adresses? or can u only find restaurants, hospitals and things of that nature?

  • Yeah you can search for addresses

  • thats quite cool. maybe some of the lag time is going to disappear when tom-tom release their app
