I work for an agency that serves people with intensely challenging behavior. Several had multiple "placement failures." ALL of them have showed behavioral improvement without use of ANY aversive treatments. Many have been weaned off medications they were on for years. (We don't medicate for convenience.) We believe all behavior is communication. We figure out WHAT the person is trying to communicate, meet their needs, then work on teaching them more appropriate & effective ways to communicate.

Also there is the "specialized food program" where they can take away up to 75% of there "normal daily caloric target"
For those of you stating JRC needs to be shut down, you really need a reality check. Children that are receiving services at JRC are there for a reason... the reason being they can not be served in their home school or special center. If I show you a child that banged his head against hard surfaces so often that his face is now deformed, would you then consider an aversive therapy as a possible treatment solution? Or should we just wait until he is brain damaged?

I find it really hard to believe that electric shock is being used on students that are NOT exhibiting dangerous levels of agressive and self-injurious behavior. Ethically this type of intervention can only be used if the parents agree and the educational team has decided that the level of behavior puts the student and those around them in immediate danger. I find it even more difficult to believe that this is being used with Aspies....

1) Names/addresses of high level staff
2) Hours of operation
2) Detailed map of facility
3) Head count and weaponry carried by facility security
4) Distance to nearby law enforcement; estimated response time.

My intuition tells me your intention is required. If you didn't program it beforehand to do what you want, I think if you see it in your mind's eye that can be rectified. As long as you are here, I'm thinking it will work as long as you want it too. Memorizing forms of crystal energies one can sometimes feel the same if they like without being near the crystal. You may be able to do the same with the entire area. Intention is very (don't wanna use this word) powerful.

A bill is introduced allmost every year to ban shock therapy and the other things they do to them there, but it never passes. My medical assisting teacher used to work at the center and used to shock the kids, she quit when she had to shock a 7 year old child.

actually, there video cameras everywhere. Everyone there is being watched, wherever they go, not that they have a choice. They can't even really talk to each other, afraid of the cameras. also, they did pinch the students feet before the GED was introduced. they also slapped them with spatulas and spanked them..just putting all this out there

MANY children just the same as the tiny few (relative to the total)that go to JRC and many of those WITHOUT the use of drugs also. How do you think that happens across the world when JRC is just one small speck compared to the whole and JRC is the ONLY place that children are given electrical shocks and so only see a TINY PROPORTION of those children?

You are responsible for your actions. You can choose to do the right or wrong thing, but if you choose the wrong thing its very possible it won't be long before you face the consequences of that choice. Look how you could genuinely help people by learning more about learning disabilities and working to help them and their parents either at home or in a centre that does not include abuse. You could do it if you tried. Why not look into it?

Its the CRUEL way of modifying behaviour. Behaviour in children, and in adults, is modified from the day they are born by those around them. Thats how we learn.
