Cotto may have changed Malignaggi for the worse but he did have a couple dominating fights after the Cotto fight against Cherry and N'Dou.I think it's more about how when he steps up to really top competition...he falls short and top tier fighters can get their share of licks on em. Ngoudjo did a little bit here, we all know Cotto surely did and then Ricky put his own stamp on Malignaggi.
I think when it all comes down to it, Paulie Malignaggi is a second tier fighter, he can beat most fighters and sometimes look impresive doing it but he will fall short of top tier fighters. So he is just a little short of being an elite fighter.
Despite all that, another thing that all this shows is that he has a lot of heart and a great chin.

He mistakenly didn't take Ngoudjo seriously, and Ngoudjo himself has what it takes to be a belt holder. He beat Randall Bailey ffs. Malignaggi still won by a comfortable margin by adapting properly despite having not prepared well.

Cotto may have changed Malignaggi for the worse but he did have a couple dominating fights after the Cotto fight against Cherry and N'Dou.I think it's more about how when he steps up to really top competition...he falls short and top tier fighters can get their share of licks on em. Ngoudjo did a little bit here, we all know Cotto surely did and then Ricky put his own stamp on Malignaggi.

I think when it all comes down to it, Paulie Malignaggi is a second tier fighter, he can beat most fighters and sometimes look impresive doing it but he will fall short of top tier fighters. So he is just a little short of being an elite fighter.
Despite all that, another thing that all this shows is that he has a lot of heart and a great chin.

Boxing writers note Malignaggi's "defense wizardry" - but there was none of it in this fight.
In fact, his defense has deteriorated since the first N'dou bout. He's a lot easier to hit, he's slower, and his timing and balance seem to have fallen off.
You gotta wonder if the heavy beating he took from Cotto is having a delayed-reaction effect on him.
He's not the same fighter.

Ngoudjo and N'dou are at about the same level, and Paulie dominated N'dou in their first bout. Paulie also completely outclassed Edner Cherry who's faster and sharper than those two fighters.
Ngoudjo was able to land clean right hands on Paulie for 12 rounds. Same thing in the N'dou rematch.
Paulie has lost his reflexes, quickness, and mobility over time since he got battered by Cotto.
He had nothing left for Hatton.

No doubt Hatton is the superior fighter, and I think he would've beaten Malignaggi at any time in the past - but no matter if you like Malignaggi or hate him, you have to admit there has been a dramatic erosion of skills since the first N'dou match. The evidence is clear.
There is such a thing as a delayed-reaction affect in boxers who take heavy punishment.
It looks like his slight frame wasn't built to absorb that type of beating.
He's not the first boxer that Cotto ruined.

Ngoudjo and N'dou and Malignaggi are all C lvl fighters none of them will ever be considered world class opposition.
Paulie isn't shot because, of his fight with Cotto. Cotto beat him up because, he's a world class p4p fighter something Malignaggi will never be. He'll never be able to beat the top fighters in the 140 or 147 division. Pacqiuao , Nate Cambell, Marquez, Hatton, Victor Ortiz, Edwin Valero (if he moves up lik ehe says he will)
will all pummel him. Paulie is a "paper champ" at best

to have 10's of thousands of fans follow u to vegas from manchester, and u lose the fight by tko, really takes alot out of a boxer. hatton has a lot of heart but unfortantely at age 29 so young and i think he's pretty much past his prime and its not really prime its just confidensce, he needs to build his confidence again, he cant lose against malignaggi if he does he should retire..im gonna predict malignaggi UD12, hatton better give it his all, paulie is a really sharp and slick boxer.

Hattons chin is getting weaker. wasnt paul's best night, obviously, in case u didnt hear, he did break his hand halfway through the fight and did have that dumbass hair floppin around half the time so he couldve done MUCH better. hatton was not his former self easier, he got rocked quite a few times and there was great chance he coulda been knocked down if he didnt get that break to tie his shoe. and remember, hatton isnt better than cotto either.

For those of you, and I know it's a substantial amount of you, who are basing your opinion of Malignaggi on this ONE round you see here on youtube... this was the worst round of his career. He mistakenly didn't take Ngoudjo seriously, and Ngoudjo himself has what it takes to be a belt holder. He beat Randall Bailey ffs. Malignaggi still won by a comfortable margin by adapting properly despite having not prepared well.

I like Malignaggi. He is a bit brash, but he is a decent fighter, and I like watching him fight. He stepped up to the bigtime well by backing his chin and taking a few to land his quick combos. I really dont think Hatton has the punch to decimate him, Paulie has a good chin and that would be a hard fought tactical fight for both guys.

Don't count on it. Remember Malignaggi had a very close fight with Miguel Cotto, and neither Hatton or Witter hit nearly as hard as Cotto. Malignaggi showed a lot of heart and guts in that fight, even though he is annoying as hell. I admire Hatton's heart, but his style is so ugly and Witter could be the most boring fighter on earth.
Anyway the fights would be pretty close, if Cotto didn't KO him then neither of those two would. Anyone who lasts against Cotto is not soft!

watch the fight without listening to the commentators. Cotto hurt malignaggi and won HIS rounds decisively, but in the rounds that were CLOSE, malignaggi did a fine job of boxing and outlanding Cotto. So although Cotto beat the hell out of malignaggi, if you score the fight round by round it's actually a very very close fight
Hatton may win, but if Cotto couldn't run him over then I doubt Hatton will.

The problem is that alot of you fans are spoonfed your information by HBO's compubox stats..yes paulie was staggered a few times..However the punches thrown and punches landed were not even close..paulie landed 3 punches to every 1 of herman..on top of that there were friggin rounds that ngoudjo landed no punches..Paulie had a terrible gameplan and could of lost but he didn't..If he jabbed and fought from the outside and didnt try and fight inside too much he would of looked sharper

Den2 ... Witter would knock out Mali easily, he'd destroy him. Hatton would probably do the same but it depends on how he comes back from the Mayweather defeat. I don't think Ricky has improved as a fighter at all in the last 3 years. Gavin Rees would put up a good fight against Mali, he's a tough little cookie.
