Yup. It can make just about any throw you can imagine... and some you'd probably prefer not to make. Most importantly, it can do it with perfect repeatibility.
If you want to fix Earl's problem, stop relying on an optimal shot from hooking. I personally hook the ball on a regular basis, but robots are better made for straight shots. A robot's super efficient ability to throw straight consistently works very well against the driest lane conditions. It also removes the need for adjustments. The only way a robot can consistently use hook without a problem is by reading/scanning the oil on the lane and measuring the oil absorbed by the bowling ball.
The game was a fix. The people operating the machine obviously did not know how to bowl competitively. If I had been operating the machine, the story would have ended differently.
For everyone who said Chris Barnes isnt good. I dare you to challenge him to a two out of three series. Any shot you want. I guarantee he will beat you with his spare ball. Ive seen him do it. He is the really deal.
@frenchfrie0421 Chris has too much inconsistency in his release. That's why he usually chokes undert pressure. I came in second in a PBA tournament in 1984 or 1985 at the age of 45. I averaged 245. I am a stroker and not a cranker. Everyone but me played outside and were going high with every fourth or fifth sh0t. I laid the ball inside second arrow and the ball spun untiol the oil ended. then it turned hard like there was a ditch to the pocket. I bled in the hole .
@slkaiser69 The "inconsistency" is not accidental. He uses over 20 different releases on a regular basis to match up to the lane conditions. This is what allows him to have such great success at nearly every tournament. People who have one basic release they almost always use end up doing great at some events, but poorly at others. The inconsistency under "pressure" was mainly caused by getting into his push away too quickly, causing his body to become too steep.
@gamemeister27 I understand what you say about different releases. I cashed in the U.S. Open in 1983 using a different release across every pair of lanes. The conditions were abysmal. You couldn't hook the ball at all. Point it from the gutter. Yeah, I used a different release for every tournament. but I didn't cup my wrist. that would be the biggest difference;.
The pocket strikes higher percentages because we dont have to be perfect every singe time we throw the ball. Sometimes our human errors fix our bad shots. Miss inside? Probably gonna go high, but you threw it a bit faster with lesser revs on accident. You could still strike. Missed wide? You might have slowed the ball speed enough for it to hook back because you missed the bottom of the swing.
The one statement that proves the outcome of this comparison, for bowling at least, is this: Nobody's perfect. People have been bowling and coaching for decades, and somewhere in those practice sessions, that statement has been uttered, so when you build a machine that is perfect in a sport that isn't, then there's no confusion as to why the robot lost. Humans aren't perfect and the conditions on which we bowl aren't constant, which is a match made in heaven for bowlers, not machines.
The robot failed because it relies on hook to bowl the optimal angle. If the robot tried to throw a straight ball all the time, its lack of optimal position would still make the robot unable to bowl flawlessly. IN YOUR FACE to anyone who oversimplifies bowling and insults the game!!!!!!!!!!
@NJFire1906 they can change the amount of revs and change the roll from havin alot of axis rotation to having alot of up the back roll. they can make earl wat they want him to be, he was just cranking it in that video
Hmm... not sure what the point of a bowling robot is... or why anyone would spend that much money making it... It couldn't've been cheap at all! Isn't there anything better we could be doing with our time, money, and smarts?
@PonytailGirI They made it to test the reaction of the ball at certain rotation points. Any way you want it to throw the ball it can, put the ball in a different way it throws two different balls.
I would have liked to see some slow motion showing how the machine actually throws the ball w/ the spin and everything. "Accurate to a third of a board at 15'" That's about 3/8", pretty impressive considering the size and weight of the ball.
@ShaddapaYoFace Hey, Mr. Troll, let's realize that physicists have no place in curing cancer. That's why we have biologists and medical professionals.
@ShaddapaYoFace why work on a cure for cancer when the cure was found 40yrs ago.... cancer treatment is a massive money maker so u think your government will bring out the cure and lose all that income? haha.... so spend the money on something where u at least see results.. like a robot lol
@revz1373 How the hell did you get to that topic from bowling jeez these days we could be watching a vid bout techno bowling and somehow the government and conspiracy theories will be related to the topic...
Not really a fair match. They bowled on separate lanes. Easy for either to get a groove bowling on just one lane and one lane could be completely different and even easier than the other. Let's see if Earl can bowl on two separate lanes in a real match!
@TheRuiner66 Sorry to say Walter Ray Williams sits in the top position, with more titles than Earl Anthony. I like Chris Barnes also, but he doesn't sit in that top position.
it would be pretty cool to watch how some of the best professionals would do against it. and reminds u of exactly how talented pro bowlers really are when it comes to consistancy
@0007123451 Yeah, he is. His release breaks down under pressure. Having a cupped wrist is the cause of that trait. He either breaks his wrist down differently under pressure or walks too fast and his cupped wrist releases early or late. All this is to explain why he had so many problems initially trying to win in the tenth frames under pressure. Go back and view the video and you will see what I mean. I'm knocking Chris, I think he is a eal gentleman but I'm sure if you do the research.
How much money did they waste on this crap?
