@ flash348 yes ur right he's not as good as Pineda but, Pineda is not as good as Aguire only thing Aguire doesn't have high notes compared to Pinda But SA's voice is closer to Perry.
Steve Perry , Hes not, hes good in his own right, but he just cant bring Journey to that level they were with Steve,, I guess we just cant stop believin that one day Steve will come back
great singer, and sometimes bandmembers quit, so the other guys should just keep on going, why not??? its better then quit making music and you still got the earlier albums.
i really like jeffs vocals.. .. i think hes got a little to much baratone for journey.. his voice is just really hearty and thick tone.. steve perry just sings the super high notes better i think.. no one can really do it like him.. except maybe augeri.. . that guy sounds a ton like steve.. couldnt believe it when i heard that
Some Guys don't know how great a singer Jeff Scott Soto is. He is a legend and has his own style. People do have to understand the difference of the two styles between Steve and Jeff. Both are the great singers of all time.
Jeff is easily one of THE most underrated vocalists out there. Weather it's with Journey, doing Queen tributes (not to many would have the balls to try & cover Freddy after all) or his works with Yngwie back in the day - He's one of the greats. Shame he isn't more widely known.
I guess I'm really old school cause when Perry joined Journey after there first 3 albums,I was like he's ok but I'd rather have Rollie singing still. Music is subjective we all have our own tastes and opinions but Perry is able to sit back enjoy life and make nice royalities of Journey so I'm happy for him and I'm happy for the band that they our continueing to play anyway it takes, because it's what they love to do. They've all been blessed with talent and all made there mark already!
i love steve perrys voice and he is very talented, the other guys are very talented also but when you think journey you think steve perry. have they ever made new songs with any of the new guys?
Im glad that Schon has kept the fire burning with the addition of that asian kid he has pipes!!,Journey was around before Steve Perry and they still are way after him,Schon is one of the best songwriters and guitar players for of a couple of generations now he is way underrated due to the outstanding vocalists he has had and he has unselfishly taken the back seat for decades
Haven't ever heard this guy. Maybe they should have followed this direction instead of trying so hard to mimic Steve. They could have just evolved kinda like Van Halen did with Sammy Hagar.
I'm a 100% Steve Perry fan, to me he's the only "VOICE" of Journey. However, having been turned on to Jeff, I love him! Had to get his CD of ballads. A very versatile musician, obviously. Thanks
I welcome the change from the typical Journey steve perry sound alikes. Steve had his moment in the sun. It is nice to hear another vocalist give it there own spin.
I agree. I'm 100% for Perry, to me there simply is no Journey without "The Voice". But having been turned on to Jeff SS, I like him very much; went out and ordered his CD of ballads. Great singer, and very versatile, apparently.
Funny story. Faithfully came first. The story goes that after Prince finished PR he called Neal Schon up and apologised to him because the ending is so similar and he never noticed whilst recording it.
folks, I know jeff scott soto is "Jeff Scott Soto" and yeah, all the Lore, and yeah, this Really Great singer from Racer X, and yada, yada, and the truth is, I'm sure he is very good. no doubt. however, here, on this vid, singing this song, in this little club ( it sounds like) he is doing quite average. this sounds like almost any JOE down at the local club, doing a cover of this tune. I'm not impressed. this is SO FAR OFF THE MARK, from Steve Perry, and even Augeri, it's getting really silly.
I saw Jeff play with Neal and Soul Sirkus a few years back here in Tahoe. When asked to do a Journey song , he pretty much bashed the fact that they were asked. It was a big turn off. I was surprised when they had him stand in for the rest of the tour when Steve A. could no longer perform. I don't feel that he's worthy of singing ANY Journey material.
Glad that he's no longer with them and I wish him the best of luck.
I was there,an amazing show, what a great performer!I'd like to see him with Journey too but they never come to Athens! At least i watched Talisman last year.
Thanks for your contribution to journey .. it's about talent and new journey has to move on ... check out Journey concert chile 2008. justice is served!!!!!!!!!!!!
i agree with you...every singer who would replace steve perry would be criticized... i guess after SP, arnel sounds the closest to perry and his voice really sounds awesome. he's very talented and he'll have a great future with journey...now, its not about steve perry or arnel pineda, its about Journey's Music and how it should be.
Speaking as a guy that began listening to Journey for a couple of years ago, I think Soto actually is more talented. JSS is just fantastic. Incredible voice, brilliant songwriter and a fantastic composer.
Personally i think JSS wanted a bigger input in Journey writing material which i think Journey would never allowed.Ive seen him live and he was great but there are so many Perry fans stuck in a timewarp.
your absolutely right. Steve was so one of a kind the ONLY way it ever sounds right is for a singer to imitate but obviously, because Perry was so in a league of his own it often is difficult like it is for Jeff here. In essence no singer could ever really take a journey song and make it their own.
sorry dude perrys gone, he wont leave his house or somthing, to do a show with journey, so you can join him and gohome and cry or not listen. no one can come in and copy...
I'ts not that he won't leave his house. He is living a quiet life doing all the things he wanted to do and devoting time to his favorite baseball team and his granddaughter.
He's doing exactly what he wants to do, just like people should when they retire.
There were too many hard feelings between him and Journey....and it makes sense that he strained his voice over the years. He's smart not to set himself up for more criticism than he already gets.
i would like to point out however that when i first saw this clip many many many months ago, i was not a fan of it at all, i couldnt imagine why they chose jeff as there sing. then i saw them live . .and i new why. no im still trying to get to grips why schon got rid of the guy.
You fucking dickweeds, he's not trying to sound like Perry here, he's doing the song because of his involvement with Neal. Look at the hair, this was during Soul Sirkus time, 2005, he wasn't even a thought for Journey at this time. If anybody did their homework, they'd know Perry is the biggest influence next to Mercury in Jeff's life, nobody could have saved Journey from State Fairs & amusement parks except for this guy. If you want a Perry clone, go see a tribute band.
I saw Soto twice with Journey. Ok, so he ain't no Perry. But i honestly enjoyed his performance, and the guy deserves alot of credit. It was better to see Journey with JSS than not at all. Can't wait to see who the next singer will be!!
I agree. I saw him with Journey. If he can't reach the high note, he mumbles something to the crowd, let the crowd sing or let the back up vocals rescue him. He is a good singer though. He is better off solo. Peace!!
All bickering aside, the guy can sing, the problem is is that with anything like music or films or cars whatever,we all have different ideas about what is the definitive, for many, steve perry is the definitive journey frontman, for me too I guess, but that don't take anything away from jeff scott soto, not better or worse just different, but still great tunes, great memories.
Don t come here acting like you know what your talking about. one visit to your page and its clear you haven't a clue. jeff can do Freddie but not Steve lol clueless.
I have to be honest...I didn't like JSS because I am such a Steve Perry fan...But I never really gave him a chance or listened to his voice. Well, I finally did and OH was I wrong!!! The man is amazing...and he NEVER tried to be Steve Perry...He put his own body and soul in those songs. Journey made another big mistake. JSS will do fine without them!
i agree with you big time buddy. I thought nobody can replace Perry. then i heard jss and holy man. he wasnt tryng to sound or act like perry. unlike augeri.
JSS is not Steve Perry and is not trying to be. He is the most versatile singer on the planet and did a damn good job and has tons of talent for new stuff. I'm sure they can find a copy of Perry to make you guys happy, i guess Journey is just a tribute band of themselves.
i guess you can't blame us for loving steve perry too much. his voice is just so powerful...it hits you emotionally. that was the best edition of journey when steve perry was there. i agree tho...the current journey is a tribute band of themselves. that's sad.
Get down on your knees Journey and BEG Steve Perry to come back before you`re all too old. Put your troubles behind you. You can replace a drummer a guitarist a keyboard player but you can`t replace that incredible voice which was Journey.
Man, I love Jeff! But he definately deserves to be in a hard rock band. I'm glad he left Journey. Hope he returns to some kick ass rock. Check out his voice on Stand up & Shout from the movie Rockstar. That's where his voice is best.
Steve Perry left the band many years ago. Steve Augeri had to leave due to health problems. The show must go on and you must realize it. If you insist on making stupid remarks from now on I'm going to delete some of the comments in order to protect you.
Ive seen Journey with Steve Augeri ... Augeri was the closest thing to Steve Perry. In 2006, i went to see journey again, Journey said "Augeri was Sick and had to leave the tour" ... i was SEVERLY upset seeing them with this guy who is now thier official front man. WTF !
Ok...I think the members of Journey have ran out of singers. They will never be Journey without Steve Perry and if Jeff is all they got, then they are screwed!!! Steve Perry made Journey what it is. Oh, and sense I'm on a roll, I hate Neil Schon! His playing is great...but I hate him personally!
Steve Perry can still hit the notes contrary to what you might think!
Steve Perry (Jeff will never be) , but he's a great singer, so dont bash him.. He's done alot of great music over the years. He has a love for Journey, and because he did SOUL SIRKUS with schon, thats why they let him sing with journey. But Jeff is a great musician. , and as far a Neil goes, he is awesome! you dont know music buddy..
First of all...I'm a buddette....and I do know music. Neil Is awesome...I said I don't like him personally. Jeff isn't a bad singer....he just can't hold a candle to Steve Perry...and no one can. Journey will never be the same...they should change their name! When people think of Journey, the first person they think of is Steve....so there ya go buddy!
Oh my goodness! Why Journey picked this guy as their lead vocals?!? What a SHAME! The Zoo Band's cover of Faithfully is much better than this. Check it out dudes! You'll never hear a live version of "Faithfully" better after hearing it! Mark my word!
This guy is a total joke, he just ruined a classic.. I agree with jleader64, what a shame to put Journey's name on this crap! Augeri was much better than this guy, since he and Steve Perry had a voice resemblance, but no doubt that Steve Perry will always be the one.
If this dude wants to sing, he must start his own band, - no one can replace a band member, Journey is not journey without sexy steve, just like Queen is not queen withrout Freddie.
Indeed. Nail on the head. I did an article on Journey and when bands become a 'brand'...they are not the only ones, but certainly one of the most controversial what with the Syngate affair of 2005/06
mainie101~ btw jeff does have his own band & has been a front man of many classic rock bands over the last 25 yrs. go google his name & watch the music pop up ~
His voice maybe shot but unlike Soto he ain't making a ass on the stage being someone he ain't!As for him being lazy...Well for what he has done Soto won't come close to him at all in the HITS!Too bad someone had to post this song.Way to ruin this tune. This guy blows! Also Perry does want to do something. He is putting out cd's and dvd's on Journey. What rock have you been hiding under? His (PERRY)Solo stuff is being played since 82? Where was Soto then?Too busy playing with himself?
hey guy... what have done perry since he left journey??? have you take a look into soto's career??? if yu don't like soto go away with you old dusty journey cd's with perry and stay on the past...
Shut up about who is better!
Every single human being has its opinions!

nope

Jeff was the best thing that happened to Journey since Steve Perry left. Unless they are getting Steve Perry back, letting JSS go was a huge mistake.

News Flash:
Steve Perry left the band many years ago. Steve Augeri had to leave due to health problems. The show must go on and you must realize it. If you insist on making stupid remarks from now on I'm going to delete some of the comments in order to protect you.

Ive seen Journey with Steve Augeri ... Augeri was the closest thing to Steve Perry. In 2006, i went to see journey again, Journey said "Augeri was Sick and had to leave the tour" ... i was SEVERLY upset seeing them with this guy who is now thier official front man. WTF !

Journey will never be the same with Perry but Soto is not trying to be Steve. Jeff is a great singer. The last Steve Journey had was a Perry wana-b

That is the truth!

This Soto guy SUCKS. What the hell are these guys trying to sell us anyway????

Oh, and by the way....I think Jeff Scott Soto plays one of the cavemen on the Geico commercials!!!!!!

But Jeff is a great musician. , and as far a Neil goes, he is awesome! you dont know music buddy..
briancounihan 4 years ago
First of all...I'm a buddette....and I do know music. Neil Is awesome...I said I don't like him personally. Jeff isn't a bad singer....he just can't hold a candle to Steve Perry...and no one can. Journey will never be the same...they should change their name! When people think of Journey, the first person they think of is Steve....so there ya go buddy!
beakys 4 years ago
Would love to see Perry back but I dont think he can hit the high notes any more. I like Soto, hes good for the band.

Deen Castronovo does the best Steve Perry
BadBoyofRock 4 years ago
Soto sounds fine to me here. He just doesn't have as high a voice as Perry. Remember folks, this isn't a professional recording either...
gunstar9 5 years ago
wat d fuck! perry was d best...castronovo was almost d best... augeri is good..but soto sucks balls

OMG what a way to destroy a classic song !! REVOLTING !!
BRUTAL !!

And to think this guy is a singer in Journey?Wow he needs work!
billleeboy 5 years ago
Nah!
If this dude wants to sing, he must start his own band, - no one can replace a band member, Journey is not journey without sexy steve, just like Queen is not queen withrout Freddie.
Mainie101 5 years ago

Where was Soto then?Too busy playing with himself?
billleeboy 5 years ago
he's thinking that perry is done. His voice is shot, he can't make it 3 shows into a tour, and frankly he's lazy and doesn't want to do anything.
BillyCarri 5 years ago
i agree with you on that
arnediad 5 years ago
Soto is no Perry, thats for sure...whats Neal thinking?
shaneslatts 5 years ago
hey guy... what have done perry since he left journey??? have you take a look into soto's career??? if yu don't like soto go away with you old dusty journey cd's with perry and stay on the past...

Neal should be ashamed of himself, putting the name Journey on this CRAP!!!
