@christmascnn It depend on who are you fighting. Against a unarmored person or a warrior armored with a Asian armor you're right but a Katana couldn't cut a Knight armor: A chainmail or a plate armor . Katanas were made with the best steel on their time and by the best ironmasters, but they've got limits, as all weapons.
@Huma270490 as a student of Mugai Ryu (cutting from the draw) I agree, however much like Knights of the West the best strategy for dealing with armor is in thrust to less protected areas such as joints or inner thigh. The Katana excelled at what it was designed for, but it is poorly matched against heavy armor or larger shields used in an offensive manner.
Good martial artistry is 85% anticipation of an opponent´s next move... This scene is breath-taking indeed, but the unlikliness of a man who only trained for such short time achieving this level of expertise, actually does take something away from it...
the fact that there were never american advisors in Japan also takes something away from it. The fact that they were French is astonishing indeed, because a French person would never survive to be captured by Samurai. They would ball up and start crying.
@Shittywaffles you idot, just because you hear storys of french people acting like pussy's, doesn't mean they are, some of the greatest warriors were frank, which the french are descendent's from
I practiced for 12 years, earned my black belt, won several jujitsu and judo tournaments... and I STILL have a LONG WAY to go! Hehehe... but the most important thing, I absolutely fell in love with martial arts and combat sports...
