The reason I disliked this video is because the youtuber didn't really address the serious problems both an Atheist and a Christian can take up with Mormonism. This includes the Book of Abraham, Anachronisms in the Book of Mormon, and DNA of Native Americans. I recently uploaded a video that addresses them, take a look:
I'm an Atheist, I can't give you a thumbs down because your video was well presented, you don't cut Dawkins off but allowed him to finished his sentence. You show your face on camera, you talk in a respectful manner and you allow comments.
I am not convinced by the video that there is any kind of god, but none the less...good video.
@veronicats100 actually, science is quite incapable of determining morality, which passes onto philosophy, a secular domain that is often incorporated into religion, or studied separately.
Why has he gotten more dislikes? First, His basic premise is all wrong. Second he is a Mormon which means he CANNOT be a smart, reasonable thinking person. He says science does not have all the answers. The fact of the matter is that science does have all of the answers, maybe not know but eventually it will. As time passes all premises of religion are taken down by science, never the other way around.
@veronicats100 Science doesn't describe a faith or morality. It doesn't have answers as to what made science or how it even started in the first place. Science doesn't have an answer to faith and why people have it. Science is always being proved wrong as well, not just religion.
Stop dressing like a pilot!....People look at me ( a pilot) like I'm a religious nut when walking around in public in my pilot uniform. I'm an atheist and that was a great video. Unfortunately your testament to the existence of God cannot be shared because you yourself said that it was "personal" experiences.
Are all you people completely missing the point? He isn't trying to convince you to join anything. The main point he's making is religious people need to take more responsibility and not be such wimps (paraphrasing ofc).
Wouldn't it be nice if Mormons didn't hate others of different beliefs? I wish all religions would concern themselves with the next world and leave this one to the rational.
@slim240293 It does seem strange that the world they care about the most is this one and yet they believe they are going to live forever. If they really believed they are going to live forever, this life would be less than a blink so the religious should just shut up and let us non-believers have a better society.
As an atheist, I'm a little perplexed that the internet atheist mafia (yes, we exist, a branch of the non-existent EAC) has down-rated this video. No, I don't agree with his justifications for irrational beliefs or so-called "personal evidence," but I do respect that he is capable of compartmentalizing those beliefs and to be conciliatory with people who don't believe the same, unlike creationists and other Biblical literalists. He is the kind of person with whom we need to be building bridges.
(Part 2) He's essentially saying "I agree that 0+0 may in fact equal 0, and I agree that there is little evidence to prove otherwise. However, I have personal evidence that 0+0 very possibly could equal 1. This is my own personal mathematical conclusion - not suitable for all. Having said that, I believe that it is a universal promise that if one seeks to find the product of 1 through adding 0 to 0, he will find the 1 for which he is looking."
"I have personal evidence that that impossibility, IS possible"
Please present your evidence that God is possible.
Everyone here seems to believe you use logic and reason, but we must take a step back from the vicinity of your seemingly logical words and realize that - as fancy and thought-out as your words are - you're still arguing in favor of invisible sky-men.
Come on, people. He makes it sound good, but there's no logic in that.
The difference is that science has substantial empirical evidence to support it. God has no evidence whatsoever. Neither do unicorns, but we uniformly agree that they don't exist.
However, I have great respect for your calm, thoughtful stance on your personal belief. You have the right to what you believe.
"Seek and ye shall find" Seek to believe in the Great Pumpkin as your savior and you will be able to twist all kinds of things to fit your belief. The good things that happen in your life can be attributed to Big Pumky looking after you. The bad things? Well, the Great Pumkin moves in mysterious ways...sometimes he lets life test your faith. All this fool has succeeded in is lulling some watchers into believeing he is a rational person, which he is not since he believes in the God idea.
Wow, you're actually making some sense here. I'm an atheist but I'm wondering why did people dislike this? I mean, I don't like Mormonism (or any religion, for that matter) and I don't really agree with your conclusion, but you are actually using reason and logic.
exmormon here..I know what this religion is all about and I do not respect it one bit. Even the morals that some religions teach are present in non religious homes. I am a BIG OL 6.9 on the belief/ atheist scale. ( Read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins to find out where you stand)
I prayed for God to show himself in my life, and it never happened. I was on the edge of non-belief and I was really truly searching for God. I prayed every day for him to show himself to me, but it never happened. I have no reason to believe until he does. I still ask sometimes, but it never works. Maybe someday it will.happen, but I doubt it.
Probability is the prediction of statistics. since their is no statistical proof of god, probability of god existing is low. That's what Richard Dawkins meant. Moreover, there is statistical proof of the non existance of god, such as in the appearance of miracles being in 50/50 with coincidence, the religious power of healing being in 50/50 with the Placebo Effect and so on. this makes the probability of God not existing being very high. Probability is prediction, Statistics is evidence.
"personal evidence" thats some science we need to learn, i think you're personal evidence is a little voice in you're head and educated non indoctrinated people call that delluted.
But that's not the worse, did you actually even talk about mormonism ? That's so obviously fake and bad that even delluted is not proper explanation, you must be a nut case. Sorry for the offence but we can't thake that serious
Spot on. I have no disagreement with any ones beliefs. You can believe in God and Christ, unicorns, dragons or whatever works for you. And though I may not agree I will defend your right to say and believe whatever you want. I will however take issue when you tell me what to believe, directly or indirectly through governmental policy or other means.
of all the religions to choose....Mormonism? American indians are a lost tribe of israel? pass the tinfoil and get the black slave to ask wife number 3 to join me in the bedroom.
Wow a religious video that is calm, respectful, and to an extent reasonable. I didnt sense any hate and he took some responsibility in the admission of the unlikelihood of a god. Well done sir, and I mean that. I do not agree with or respect your religion, but your words and performance demand respect.
Well said sir. While I am an atheist and thus disagree with some of your points. It is refreshing to see a well thought out, polite statement such as yours. It is a lesson that many including me can learn from. You have my respect.
Turn to Islam instead, it is for intellectuals and scientists too... we are not backwards thinking, just people who don't know us and can't imagine living life without their little satans seem to think of us... Give it a try, Read the Whole Quran not just some verses taken out of context.
I am an atheist and former mormon so I would hope that all mormons do look at science over religion. However, I appreciate this post and the tolerance on both sides of the coin...well done.
You can't testify about something you haven't seen, imagine in a jury someone testifies you stole or killed someone even if he didn't see you, that's a lie right?
You cannot reconcile science and religion. Science is believing because of evidence. Religion is believing in spite of evidence. Theists try to do this all the time, but the 2 are like oil and water. Once you bring the concept of "faith" into the issue, it stops being science.
Hey, why did god kill all the first born of Egypt (children and babies) and the first born of every animal to make the pharaoh let the jewish people out of bondage after hardening pharaoh's heart. Why not just take-out the pharaoh instead and save the innocents. This makes god a moron if it's true. But apparently there's no record of any such event in the Egyptian records as I thought...it was 'MAN MADE GOD' not GOD MADE MAN.
By the way, why would your god or any other god create dinosaurs then sit up in his 'theme park' and watch them dismember and rip each other to pieces for a period of around 200 million years must have been a gruesome sight, what was the point of that? but then again he's big on sacrifices and the smell of blood isn't he.
Numerous teachers before jesus gave the same instructions like Confucious (love your neighbour), Zoroaster,Epictetus,Buddha...Muhammad also assured his sect jesus was not divine (Koran 5;71-75; 19;30-38)- and anyone who believes otherwise will spend eternity in their HELL.They have the same reasons for being muslims that you have for being mormon and believing your book. YOU ARE AN ATHIEST to every other religion and if you're wrong you could find yourself in the muslim HELL. Dont be an arse.
As soon as I noticed that twitch in your eyes after you uttering the word "atheist" at about 00:19 I knew that this was going to be one of those videos
Well you're definitely better than most religious people and I don't see any atheist having a problem with you. The problem in your beliefs is that your evidence is personal, as you say, so by definition it can only pertain to you. Noone else can feel what you feel.
The thing with personal evidence is it's not really evidence, it's just a personal experience. Which doesn't make it true, our senses can oh so easily trick us, look just at cognitive bias for one.
Mormonism is, compared to other Abrahamic religions, consistent with science. The biggest problem is Mormonism is its founder, who allowed polygamy just so that he could have sex with as many women as he wanted, and lied to a teenager that God commands her to marry him. Perhaps not as repulsive as Moses or Mohammed, but considering the time and culture he lived in, he is a ****head.
Why when you try to debate a mormon and you begin to present them with the facts regarding the formation of their church and Joseph Smith are they left speechless and then just go away? Is it like they just are in denial or what???
@TheSkepticChristian what is your history and what are you talking about? You also said, "she brings up issues that have nothing to do." what does that mean? What is a talking donkey?? What are you talking about?? Am i in the twilight zone or are you not making any sense whatsoever??
@TheSkepticChristian what did the donkey say? issues that have nothing to do? they must be bored I bet. I get bored when I have nothing to do. Well, I get on youtube when I get bored sometimes. Can't the issues get on youtube? Maybe they wouldn't be bored. Maybe they could talk to the donkey?
Listen KINGxB, I've got nothing against Mormons, but I wouldn't want my sisters to marry one. You talk of praying I'm pretty sure you don't have any prayers answered anyway isn't ur god too busy welcoming an innocent child who dies into his 'theme park' up in heaven every 6 minutes or may be he's privvy to you guys having classic sex with all those indoctrinated wives you have.Surely he can't be listening simultaneously to the cathlics, muslims,Jews,Hindus, baptists, protestants,J witnesses bla bla
how do you account for the evidence of early hominids and our relationship to them when you accept a personal Adam and Eve as your primal parents just 6k years ago. DNA proves our relationship to all life on this Earth where do you think Adam and Eve came from? Honest question for a person of faith and science
You correctly state religion may become silly under the under the light of science. Smith taught American Indians were decended from the ancient Hebrew, DNA research provides evidence ottherwise. Conclusion: Smith had great imagination but no devine revalation. Why was he lynched? A number of his wives were already married, their husbands among the executioners - think about it. Regards
Science does not have all the answers, but neither does religion; that is a really feeble argument. Popping religion in the gaps in knowledge is not knowledge it's just a nonsense. I don't get Mormons either, the whole thing was made up in 1800s, why don't people see through that. It's clearly claptrap!
humility: claiming you have more knowledge about the universe than all the most intelligent people, decades of research, and endless scruiteny nicely combined in science.
What's the benefit of being a mormon anyway as opposed to being a hindu or a catholic or a jehova's witness or a jew, I mean what do they get that everyone else doesn't or I don't get as an atheist and if you have an answer what evidence do you have to prove it?
@tonyp1945 Each of those groups believe they have different benefits and some believe others are still able to recieve "if they are right" while others believe those who don't believe go to usually Hell or get reincarnated or just die or something like that. The groups are not ment to be a pick one or another for the benefits, it's simply do you believe or not and somehow they all have shit tons of members but the usage of the groups is positive usually which helps people be better to eachother.
@KINGxB I don't have to be religious to be nice to my fellow man which makes any religion for me redundant.Everyone knows Adam & Eve just isnt true, you either believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old or closer to 4.5 billion consequently no Adam no original sin so no reason for god to send his half man half god to redeem us all in order to stop himself from sending everyone to eternal torture and all that shit. I'm going with science not a 2000 yr old holy book with a magic sky daddy.
@tonyp1945 I never said you did but it does help alot of people and it's a shame people can't just be nice to eachother and wana build the communities for future generations to start but that's life... Also no real follower of Abraham stemmed religion would believe the worlds less than 10,000 years old or that it was actually created in 7 days as the translation is off and the real meaning of how earth was created was intended to be stages if you trace back and properly translate. LOL, Sky Daddy
@KINGxB "The real meaning" you say, do you mean this god was unable to write a holy book that everybody could understand after creating the Universe by just an Act of Will. You're cheating now and insulting my intelligence. Who gives YOU the authority to make your own bible up anyway. This god is stupid, why didn't he use a Parrot instead of a 'talking snake', everybody knows snakes dont talk. The whole thing is just SILLY!
@tonyp1945 lol ur cracken me up... but most people do realize the Bible is not by GOD but by man thru words of GOD and following and teachings of Jesus Christ... I think it shoulda included more bush burning tho, always fun to burn a little bush ;) and the parrot woulda been alot cooler too but you forget some wizards like harry potter can speak to snakes so maybe there was a Parseltongue in the old days...
@KINGxB Quote"most people do realize the Bible is not by GOD but by man thru words of GOD" Do you mean these words; Non-virginal brides must be murdered.(Deuteronomy 22:20,21) Female slaves can be used sexually.(Exodus 21:7-11) You should beat your children with rods.(Proverbs 23:13,14) Anyone who commirs adultery must be put to death (Deuteronomy 22:22).JESUS AGREES... Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Matt 5:17-18.yeh
@tonyp1945 You lost me... I agree'd pretty much and your arguing? Man made the Bible much of it is good but it is not credible due to not being written for along period and the translations and bullshit surrounding it but some of it is supposedly words from god and other parts are supposed to be from the teachings and practice of Jesus but Man is flawed and how can we trust it 100%? We can't, we can use it as a tool but that's it...
@tonyp1945 Look KINGxB because you are believer of some sort but unable to face up to the beliefs you have and so accept any old thing they told you it's not possible to win with religion, I know I was raised a catholic until I reached the age of reason. For me anything that purports to be inspired is nothing without the proof of the person who inspired it. If a God exists then demonstrate a verifiable testable manifestation because thats what existence means. Nobody has yet come close. END
@tonyp1945 its not that Jesus agreed, but rather he came to fulfil-thus end it and change it. To fulfil means to relinquish the desire. If i am fulfilled with murder, i no longer need to kill. If i am fulfilled with food, i no longer need to eat, ect. and u also have to understand the time and place this was written and see it through context. The way people act today is not how they acted nor believe 40,000 years ago. Slaves and surfs were common place, there was no concept of abuse, ect.
Same old rubbish and same old lack of any evidence, just faith. Isn't faith that thing where you believe something without evidence. Every religion has a massive leap of faith when it comes to demonstrating the existence of their God so how do you distinguish which religion is correct. If there was a God that created the universe by an act of will and he wrote a book it would be better than the book of mormon, the bible or any other book. This guy should stop being gullible and grow up.
Mormonism is the most ridiculous religion I've ever heard of. Wait a minute. Sorry. Scientology is the most ridiculous. That would make mormonism the second most ridiculous. Sorry mormons, you're not the most ridiculous. You're second best at ridiculous. Maybe you should try harder.
@glennheston It is obvious that for me they aren´t fairy tales. It´s like mocking about my favorite music or my love for my pet, you should respect the beliefs of others so that the others respect you too.
Your rights end up where my rights starts.
We all have the right to believe what we want, to have the religion we want.
@dorisfenella Jack and the beanstalk is a fairy tale, and if someone said they believed it was real you wouldn't respect their beliefs. Why should I respect your beliefs if I see absolutely no difference between your beliefs, and fairy tales? You have no more rights than I do. You do have the right to believe as you wish, but it is not a requirement that you be respected. If I said 1+1=3 because I believed it, would you respect that belief? I feel the same way when you talk about your beliefs.
@glennheston Unlike, LDS church, Adventists, Muslims and others, There´s no any human group that is based on the belief like " Jack and the beanstalk". See the difference. This is not a case of 1+1=3. Cuestions of creeds and human behavour in general can´t be measured like Maths. IE One person can produce 10 but 4 persons together can produce more than 4*10 due to the synergy of their interaction.
Religions are based on more than cold facts like numbers and they always be.
@dorisfenella You don't understand the what I'm trying to tell you. What would you think if I said 1+1=3 because I believe 1+1=3? You would think, "That's impossible!". That is what I think when someone says they know where everything came from, how I should live my life, and where I'll go when I die. Why should I believe you over anyone else? How do you know you're praying to the right "god"? The possibility of a "god" existing, is exactly the same as there being no "god" at all.
@glennheston I am not trying to prove you nothing really. If you don´t believe in God it is the option you took. What I am trying to make you understand is that as well as you believe you shouldn´t believe in God because there´s no fact, others took the option to believe in God because they believe that there´s something beyond any fact or evidence. The options of everyone must be respected because they are part of our rights.
@dorisfenella "The options of everyone must be respected because they are part of our rights." So where do we draw the line? Who's beliefs do we respect, and who's do we not? Do we respect the beliefs of the guy who says he talks to aliens too? What beliefs do we condemn? Would you respect a satanist? If you show respect to other beliefs, doesn't that mean you have belief in their "god" also? If your "god" is the only "god", then by default, everyone else must be worshiping the wrong "god".
@glennheston Notice that I am considering all religious group not only mine. If the world is bad that is not due to religion. In most extent I believe is due to the lack of respect among us, the bigotry and hate. And religion basically teaches to love one another, to respect one another despite the differences. In this case specifically the differences of our beliefs.
@dorisfenella Religion is the reason we get into all these conflicts. One group says their "god" says kill the non believers. Another group says their "god" doesn't want your kids to learn something in school because it goes against their "god". More people have died throughout history in the name of "god" than for any other reason. Religion is dangerous. Your religion should never leave the inside of your head, and you should never apply it to anyone. Your beliefs are strict that. Yours!
@glennheston I have barrier language really. It would be easier for me to talk to you in spanish but I am going to try anyway I hope you can understand some errors. When I am refering to "religion and beliefs" specifically I am talking about a set of beliefs that has an agreement by a group of people and that are not against any law. On the other hand thanks for mention them, I believe that LDS doctrine have answers to all those contradictions of the common christianity.
@glennheston So you should respect not only my beliefs, you should respect all beliefes of any human being groups. If you don´t believe in my faith for me it´s ok but be respectful as well as I respect Atheist, Jehova Witnesses, Evangelicals, Muslims whatever.
Religion is a bad thing!! Its man made and a perversion of any good that could possibly have come from the bible! It's nothing more than a means by which to control as much of the population as possible and force out individuality in order to conform to the want of church leaders
you cannot have evidence that an impossibility is possible... you can have evidence that something incredibly improbable is possible, but something impossible cannot be possible.
also, yes your view IS the opposite of what atheists believe. Atheists say "its super unlikely and has zero proof, therefore I won't believe it until i see it". You say "yup, and that's why I believe it". It is the opposite, that's the point.
Here's my question to all TBM's in general: When you get to be a god, are you going to order infanticide? If not, are you saying you'd do it better than Jehovah?
The Mormonism that was founded by convicted con man Joseph Smith in the 1830s? The mormonism that disgraced itself by 'blessing' Jewish holocaust victims into their faith, along with Hitler? The mormonism that was officially a racist organisation until 1978?
@Turtleneckwarrior actually, some blacks, did have high positions in the church before 1978. Like Elijah Abel was a seventy, it was a position almost like an apostle.
@TheSkepticChristian I am just asking the question. Do you regret the move by your church to bless holocaust victims? Simple question, most decent people find it abhorrent and shameful.
@TheSkepticChristian Well let me enlighten you on human decency. These Jewish people held their faith very dearly, they died specifically because of their religion. You and your friends then have the audacity to bless these people into your religion. I know they can apparently reject mormonism later on but that is not the point. People hold religion dear to their hearts and it is not moral to 'poach' people towards your religion. Jews are angry.
1 IF the church is true, then it was the right thing to do
2 (which I believe it is true) if the church is not true, nothing happens. We just mentioned their names, that's all but nothing happened. If they want to do the Same with our Prophet Gordon, would I care?? No
but anyways, I am sorry, if anyone was offended, we don't intend to offend anyone, let many try to offend us very bad.
Batshit insane drivel.... Mormonism is founded on the work of a money hungry fraudster, criminal and arch-charlatan who ended up getting shot because of his power trip. I really can't see how anyone would believe in this shit let alone take it at fact value.
This man is just fucking sick. Oh and dont look at him in the eyes, even trough this video his eyes may act as an intellectual vacuum and suck the living brains out of you. LOL!
"Science knows less rather than more" A blatant lie, science learns more and more every day. If some devine power cared enough to show itself to ancient ignorants then why does it no longer care enough to reveal itself again?
K. Chromosomal Adam was around about that long ago. Mitochondrial eve was around almost 200,000 years ago. Let's see them procreate. If the story changes with the times then what happened to truth? I was not taught that they were representative of the devil. It disgusts me to hear such things. If the church taught it before then surely it is fickle and weak. I want no part. I do not know whether it was.
I like that he ended with hope. As an ex-Mormon, I have seen that religion get my family through terrible tragedy. I was gone before the terrible tragedies happened, and found no comfort in returning. But it kept people I love sane. It will take at least 40 more years, but there will come a time when the Mormons with tattoos, the Mormons who thing gays are just people will be the ones being ordained to a higher calling. If Black American males can be admitted to the priesthood, it can happen!
I grew up in the church. The story of Adam and eve is taught as fact. Teachings and talks from general authorities are accepted and taught as scripture. Noah is taught as fact. Jonah is taught as fact.
The statement that Mormonism is flexible toward evolution is false. Not only do they believe the earth is 6000 years old but read the infamous talk "seven deadly heresies" where evolution is described as devilish.
@Amanultra "hey believe the earth is 6000 years old " the church has no official position on the age of the earth, I myself as a believing Mormon, believe that earth is about 4 billion years old, I also accept the evidences for Evolution. The church has no official position on evolution. "The Seven Deadly Heresies" is not an official statement from the church of Jesus Christ. God's apostle also had his personal beliefs and opinions.
Like. Now take the next step and realize that religion does nothing for you but take your time and 10% of your income. I don't believe in god, but you can... Just don't be a victim of organized religion. It. Does. No. Good,
Religion trying to align itself with science, particularly evolutionary biology, is a bit of a laugh. I think it might be a desperate grab to try and justify their beliefs. The age of information will be the downfall of religion. Islam, Christianity, Scientology & others claim to be the fastest growing religions on earth. As a belief system, atheism / humanism are outstripping them all.
@dave474c Mormonism is more tolerant of evolution and embraces science more than other fundamentalist religions - the official Church position on Evolution is neutrality, and they do not take Genesis literally. The spectacular geography and many fossil finds in Utah probably played a role in that. Unfortunately, some individual Mormons are unaware of the "official" position and are as adamantly opposed to Evolution as other Creationists.
@ceriman Do you think they're neutral on evolution and disbelieve genesis because it contradicts their theology? And do you believe joseph smith was spoken to by god in the 19th century?
You accept facts and truth regardless of source? What about questioning claims? Do you think that humans first came to North America during a diaspora about 50,000 years ago, or do you believe they're one of the lost tribes of Israel from around 3,000 years ago? When the facts of your religion encounter facts with evidence behind them, which wins?
Talk about mental gymnastics. How exactly can religion coexist with science when they often blatantly contradict one another? You should watch more Richard Dawkins videos. You seem to be confused about evolution if you think that Mormonism is well-placed to coexist with atheism...
Mormonism is a religion that accepts facts and truth regardless of the source. That is the very definition of Mormonism. Most Mormons I know believe that animals on earth have evolved over millions of years. And yet they believe in the Bible. They obviously don't believe the Bible contradicts evolution. Most Mormons I know also believe the earth if far more than 6,000 years old. And yet they believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrected son of God and their savior.
The life changing atonement of Jesus Christo is a delusion. I don't know how you LDSers get by without doing a little LSD to believe these fantastical ironies such as the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Native americans are really Middle Easterners from the tribes of Israel? That's the biggest farce I have heard since the tooth fairy. Jesus seems to be the Santa Claus for adults who refuse to seek truth and expect happiness at the end of a completely totalitarian, suppressed lifestyle. Enjoy!
I'm an atheist, but I actual respect fully your position in this video. very well said my friend. now onto the only sour note have here is if you in your (seemingly authentic tolerance) could just convince your fellow Mormons to stop proselytising me in the early morn I would be mucho appreciative. lol
you think this guy would not believe in god just because of what god did to this dudes hair problem hahahha and this guy needs to read a book and study things called FACTS
Nice try. Agreed, no-one of any persuasion knows everything. However the development and application of the scientific method has been so overwhelmingly successful in teaching us about the structure of the world which gave rise to our species that no alternative which can do the job better exists.
im veryyyyyyyyyy critical of the Mormon religion but this guy speakings a realy gudd speaker an interplanetar , but i have to say. alott of mormons are somwhat brain washed, just saying think in a speacies be for a church.
Thank you for your fresh semi-open-minded opinions on how religion and science need to coexist more peacefully, and that science should not be thrown out the window, but rather embraced.
However, if you truly believed that it should be embraced, you'd realize that the bible is so scientifically incorrect that everything in it needs to be taken with a MASSIVE grain of salt.
Religion could do countless good for the world, if it were taught metaphorically rather than as fact.
@Cannablisst There is no point in teaching religion metaphorically, just teach good manners, and the "golden rule" Everything else will fall into place by social and peer pressure to be good. Religions give nothing, they can only take. Atheism already has all the good bits of religion and none of the bad.
@sids500 To say religions give nothing is really ignorant. You're telling me that you have never seen a case in which religion has had a positive impact on someone? Don't be silly. It can have some positive impacts (regardless of the delusion).
The important thing to do is not be an evangelical Atheist here. Atheism is not a religion. Don't just attack with it this way. Your response to me was factless and pointless; and the equivalent of saying "I KNOW that MY team is ALWAYS right. F you!"
@Cannablisst Yes, religion can have a positive effect on someone, but that effect can be affected without religion. Talking and reason, counselling, help from teachers, peers, friends, family. Religion is a cop out, an unproven, and unprovable story that merely comforts. Many things comfort. I am not an "evangelical atheist", as they cannot exist. Atheism is merely the opposite of theism. The difference between us is that I never claim to "know", whereas religion does, when it patently cannot!
@Cannablisst I guess my point is that all the good that religion does can easily be done without religion, whereas the bad (and there's an awful lot of it!), would not be done without religion. Therefore secularism is a win-win. Or more accurately, a draw-win. Look at the good mother theresa "thought" she was doing! In fact she was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths by using prayer instead of medicine. Look at the pope banning contraception, condemning millions to death by aids!
To paraphrase Dawkins
"Why was the moron bible written in 17th century english when it should have been 19th century it really does have charlatan written all over it."
Also why do you guys believe in bullet proof under pants whats that all about?

@veronicats100 actually, science is quite incapable of determining morality, which passes onto philosophy, a secular domain that is often incorporated into religion, or studied separately.
superdude4380 2 days ago
Why has he gotten more dislikes? First, His basic premise is all wrong. Second he is a Mormon which means he CANNOT be a smart, reasonable thinking person. He says science does not have all the answers. The fact of the matter is that science does have all of the answers, maybe not know but eventually it will. As time passes all premises of religion are taken down by science, never the other way around.

@veronicats100 Science doesn't describe a faith or morality. It doesn't have answers as to what made science or how it even started in the first place. Science doesn't have an answer to faith and why people have it. Science is always being proved wrong as well, not just religion.

slim240293 5 days ago

Come on, folks. Wake up.

CardPlay3r 3 months ago
Mormonism is, compared to other Abrahamic religions, consistent with science. The biggest problem is Mormonism is its founder, who allowed polygamy just so that he could have sex with as many women as he wanted, and lied to a teenager that God commands her to marry him. Perhaps not as repulsive as Moses or Mohammed, but considering the time and culture he lived in, he is a ****head.

We can't, we can use it as a tool but that's it...

@tonyp1945 Look KINGxB because you are believer of some sort but unable to face up to the beliefs you have and so accept any old thing they told you it's not possible to win with religion, I know I was raised a catholic until I reached the age of reason. If a God exists then demonstrate a verifiable testable manifestation because thats what existence means. Nobody has yet come close. END
tonyp1945 3 months ago
@tonyp1945 its not that Jesus agreed, but rather he came to fulfil-thus end it and change it. To fulfil means to relinquish the desire. If i am fulfilled with murder, i no longer need to kill. If i am fulfilled with food, i no longer need to eat, ect. and u also have to understand the time and place this was written and see it through context. The way people act today is not how they acted nor believe 40,000 years ago. Slaves and surfs were common place, there was no concept of abuse, ect.

We all have the right to believe what we want, to have the religion we want.
dorisfenella 1 month ago
@dorisfenella Jack and the beanstalk is a fairy tale, and if someone said they believed it was real you wouldn't respect their beliefs. Why should I respect your beliefs if I see absolutely no difference between your beliefs, and fairy tales? You have no more rights than I do. You do have the right to believe as you wish, but it is not a requirement that you be respected. If I said 1+1=3 because I believed it, would you respect that belief? I feel the same way when you talk about your beliefs.
glennheston 1 month ago
@glennheston Unlike, LDS church, Adventists, Muslims and others, There´s no any human group that is based on the belief like " Jack and the beanstalk". See the difference. This is not a case of 1+1=3. Cuestions of creeds and human behavour in general can´t be measured like Maths. IE One person can produce 10 but 4 persons together can produce more than 4*10 due to the synergy of their interaction.
Religions are based on more than cold facts like numbers and they always be.
dorisfenella 1 month ago
@dorisfenella You don't understand the what I'm trying to tell you. What would you think if I said 1+1=3 because I believe 1+1=3? You would think, "That's impossible!". That is what I think when someone says they know where everything came from, how I should live my life, and where I'll go when I die. Why should I believe you over anyone else? How do you know you're praying to the right "god"? The possibility of a "god" existing, is exactly the same as there being no "god" at all.
glennheston 4 weeks ago
@glennheston I am not trying to prove you nothing really. If you don´t believe in God it is the option you took. What I am trying to make you understand is that as well as you believe you shouldn´t believe in God because there´s no fact, others took the option to believe in God because they believe that there´s something beyond any fact or evidence. The options of everyone must be respected because they are part of our rights.
dorisfenella 4 weeks ago

In this case specifically the differences of our beliefs.
dorisfenella 4 weeks ago
@dorisfenella Religion is the reason we get into all these conflicts. One group says their "god" says kill the non believers. Another group says their "god" doesn't want your kids to learn something in school because it goes against their "god". More people have died throughout history in the name of "god" than for any other reason. Religion is dangerous. Your religion should never leave the inside of your head, and you should never apply it to anyone. Your beliefs are strict that. Yours!

you cannot have evidence that an impossibility is possible... you can have evidence that something incredibly improbable is possible, but something impossible cannot be possible.
also, yes your view IS the opposite of what atheists believe. Atheists say "its super unlikely and has zero proof, therefore I won't believe it until i see it". You say "yup, and that's why I believe it". It is the opposite, that's the point.

The Mormonism that was founded by convicted con man Joseph Smith in the 1830s? The mormonism that disgraced itself by 'blessing' Jewish holocaust victims into their faith, along with Hitler? The mormonism that was officially a racist organisation until 1978?
I think I will give mormonism a miss thanks.
Turtleneckwarrior 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior Joseph Smith was never convicted in any court case.

@ImLDSRU2 WereHitler and Stalin convicted in any court case?
leflipmo 5 months ago
@leflipmo Yes. Both of them were convicted in court cases. Hitler served time as well. I can't recall if Stalin did or not.
ImLDSRU2 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior well actually the Book of Mormon teaches that blacks and whites are equal in the eyes of God
TheSkepticChristian 5 months ago
@TheSkepticChristian That might be true but if you were black you could hold no position of power right up until 1978.
Turtleneckwarrior 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior actually, some blacks, did have high positions in the church before 1978. Like Elijah Abel was a seventy, it was a position almost like an apostle.
TheSkepticChristian 5 months ago
@TheSkepticChristian Oh well I guess that makes it all alright then. What do you make of the holocaust names being blessed into Mormonism?
Turtleneckwarrior 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior " holocaust names being blessed into Mormonism"
Our religious beliefs, its not affecting no one in any form.
Why would people care anyways? Everyone is welcome to join the church
TheSkepticChristian 5 months ago
@TheSkepticChristian I am just asking the question. Do you regret the move by your church to bless holocaust victims? Simple question, most decent people find it abhorrent and shameful.
Turtleneckwarrior 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior The Holocaust was a terrible event.
But I don't understand why you find, that we get baptised for other people, shameful,
why do think its shameful?? Why do even care about this??
TheSkepticChristian 5 months ago
@TheSkepticChristian Well let me enlighten you on human decency. These Jewish people held their faith very dearly, they died specifically because of their religion. You and your friends then have the audacity to bless these people into your religion. I know they can apparently reject mormonism later on but that is not the point. People hold religion dear to their hearts and it is not moral to 'poach' people towards your religion. Jews are angry.
Turtleneckwarrior 5 months ago
@Turtleneckwarrior We did not change the Historical record.
Why would they be angry, its just this simple
1 IF the church is true, then it was the right thing to do
2 (which I believe it is true) if the church is not true, nothing happens. We just mentioned their names, that's all but nothing happened. If they want to do the Same with our Prophet Gordon, would I care?? No
but anyways, I am sorry, if anyone was offended, we don't intend to offend anyone, let many try to offend us very bad.
TheSkepticChristian 5 months ago

I know because I have taught Sunday school. Just as it was taught to me.

Amanultra 6 months ago

It. Does. No. Good,

Mormoms don't believe the first people in america were from the middle east. They believe people were already here when lehi and crew got here.

As a belief system, atheism / humanism are outstripping them all.
dave474c 6 months ago
@dave474c Mormonism is more tolerant of evolution and embraces science more than other fundamentalist religions - the official Church position on Evolution is neutrality, and they do not take Genesis literally. The spectacular geography and many fossil finds in Utah probably played a role in that. Unfortunately, some individual Mormons are unaware of the "official" position and are as adamantly opposed to Evolution as other Creationists.
ceriman 6 months ago
@ceriman Do you think they're neutral on evolution and disbelieve genesis because it contradicts their theology? And do you believe joseph smith was spoken to by god in the 19th century?

Most of what you said was great, just fuck the mormon off and there you go :)

You accept facts and truth regardless of source? What about questioning claims? Do you think that humans first came to North America during a diaspora about 50,000 years ago, or do you believe they're one of the lost tribes of Israel from around 3,000 years ago? When the facts of your religion encounter facts with evidence behind them, which wins?
gwcstudio 6 months ago
If a personal god exists, you guys would have evidence to show us, which you now LACK.
If a non-personal god exists, then who gives a damn about it?
AtheistToothFairy 6 months ago
Talk about mental gymnastics. How exactly can religion coexist with science when they often blatantly contradict one another? You should watch more Richard Dawkins videos. You seem to be confused about evolution if you think that Mormonism is well-placed to coexist with atheism...
jenifaui 6 months ago
Mormonism is a religion that accepts facts and truth regardless of the source. That is the very definition of Mormonism. Most Mormons I know believe that animals on earth have evolved over millions of years. And yet they believe in the Bible. They obviously don't believe the Bible contradicts evolution. Most Mormons I know also believe the earth if far more than 6,000 years old. And yet they believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrected son of God and their savior.
huntsnet 6 months ago
The life changing atonement of Jesus Christo is a delusion. I don't know how you LDSers get by without doing a little LSD to believe these fantastical ironies such as the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Native americans are really Middle Easterners from the tribes of Israel? That's the biggest farce I have heard since the tooth fairy. Jesus seems to be the Santa Claus for adults who refuse to seek truth and expect happiness at the end of a completely totalitarian, suppressed lifestyle. Enjoy!

Nice try. Agreed, no-one of any persuasion knows everything. However the development and application of the scientific method has been so overwhelmingly successful in teaching us about the structure of the world which gave rise to our species that no alternative which can do the job better exists.

Peace & Love.
Cannablisst 7 months ago
@Cannablisst There is no point in teaching religion metaphorically, just teach good manners, and the "golden rule" Everything else will fall into place by social and peer pressure to be good. Religions give nothing, they can only take. Atheism already has all the good bits of religion and none of the bad.
sids500 6 months ago
@sids500 To say religions give nothing is really ignorant. You're telling me that you have never seen a case in which religion has had a positive impact on someone? Don't be silly. It can have some positive impacts (regardless of the delusion).
The important thing to do is not be an evangelical Atheist here. Atheism is not a religion. Don't just attack with it this way. Your response to me was factless and pointless; and the equivalent of saying "I KNOW that MY team is ALWAYS right. F you!"
Cannablisst 6 months ago
@Cannablisst Yes, religion can have a positive effect on someone, but that effect can be affected without religion. Talking and reason, counselling, help from teachers, peers, friends, family. Religion is a cop out, an unproven, and unprovable story that merely comforts. Many things comfort. I am not an "evangelical atheist", as they cannot exist. Atheism is merely the opposite of theism. The difference between us is that I never claim to "know", whereas religion does, when it patently cannot!
sids500 6 months ago
@Cannablisst I guess my point is that all the good that religion does can easily be done without religion, whereas the bad (and there's an awful lot of it!), would not be done without religion. Therefore secularism is a win-win. Or more accurately, a draw-win. Look at the good mother theresa "thought" she was doing! In fact she was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths by using prayer instead of medicine. Look at the pope banning contraception, condemning millions to death by aids!
