  • Hi Kevy62,to perform a screw ball,do I have to hit the center-ball or the lower-ball? left or right?

    thanks

  • @pijoi69 Hi there, yes you do have to strike below center of the cueball, but it would be better if you don't use side until you have got the basics down first. cheers Kevin.

  • kevin, i'm very enjoying ur method , i started like 5 months now but still got problem with screw but after i watch your video i take time to focus and do the screw and yes it does help me.thanks.. can i ask u, does blue diamond tips are good for beginner like me?thanks again kev!

    -ewan (malaysia)

  • @ewanthug Hi there Ewan, I think it's cool that you like my videos, but to answer your question... Blue diamonds / Elkmaster tips are the most used tip on UK snooker scene.

There are other tips , but these are the most suitable for an all round game. (learning)

Cheers for taking the time to post your question & I hope this was the answer you were looking for.. good luck, Kevin

  • can u show me how is the basic for hand?

  • @satetradisi Hi there, I think what you are asking is about a basic bridge?

checkout "Snookertips my bridge in detail" I hope this helps. cheers,Kevin.

  • hi ... i want to learn how to lay snooker perfectly i play some time but i am not that gud... give me some fevour ... or any link tips .. thaks regards

  • hi can i know what type of chalk u r using??

  • @TheDevilmaniak7 hi there, I use tweeten's triangle chalk... It' s a pale,or very light green in colour, also has King of them all, written on the side of the yellow label. cheers for the question, but you only have to ask once in future..lol cheers,Kevin.

  • @kevy62 i use the same chalk too triangle light green colour its very expensive on here and hard to find in malaysia

  • @ewanthug Hello again Ewan, This is not the first time I've had question about the high price of Triangle chalk outside of Europe.

I don't think our chalk price is high , So I may be able to send you some if you like? I'll leave it up to you. cheers,Kevin.

  • What cue do you have?

  • @xSlaYzZ Hi there, sorry for the late reply.

The cue I used for this video was a John Parris "special cue" however I tend to change cues very often , so it is only one of many cues I own.

Thanks for taking the time to post a question, cheers , Kevin.

  • @MaxiMax09 Hi Max, the method is exactly the same, except that you only need a very small amount of bottom in order to gain the position for the brown..K

  • Hi kev, thanks a lot for showing us all your tips. I've found them very helpful. Just one question - slightly irrelivant, but i've always wanted to know..

why do all the pro's tap their middle or 4th finger repeatedly when taking a shot?

  • hey there kev great tut i was just wondering is there any diffrence beetween blue diamond and elkmaster tips??

  • @xboxlivegstar11 Hi there Josh, & thanks for the question. Do remember that tip choice is a personal preference nothing more, in this case there is in my opinion a definitive answer. Elks are generally softer than diamonds, so diamonds last longer, that said, some elks can play better than diamonds,as they can have a more sustainable strike due to being cut lower (a trick to make a tip harder) I have searched a box of 50 elks only to find 10 tips suitable, but I've not used either for years.. K

  • @kevy62 cheers m8 but why are diamonds more because they last longer ?

  • @kevy62 cheers m8 but why are diamonds more exspensive because they last longer ?

  • @kevy62

hi kevin i have always used and so preffer the softest tip i can get, which starting back in the 80's seemed to be blue diamond, it seems these days that these tips have become harder, AND everyone says elks are softer, so i have been doing some searching and came accross the talisman tips, which seem to be tip of choice, in your experiance are the soft graded talismans harder than the blue diamonds and elks?

    thanks for you insight,

    ian.m

  • @Matters0584 Hi there, tips have to be a matter of choice, but your question is quite an easy answer , yes,

elks are softer than diamond's today, & "talisman soft" are harder than both of them.

The second part of the question is not so easy to answer because I love talisman tips, however they do take some getting used to as being a layered tip, they actually feel softer after about 15 mins of play, but will remain consistant till the end..K

  • I need some - im trying this but when i hit the white ball and hits the colour is just stops it dosent come back can some1 tell me what im doing wrong

  • @TheGrimReeper1000 Hi there, just relax & watch the video again & try to break the instructions into small steps, this should help you to find where you are going wrong. also read some of the answers already posted . but let me know if you are still struggling & we'll sort it. cheers..K

  • @TheGrimReeper1000 i think maybe you dont drop your hand so your cue is hitting the center of the white therefore it becomes a stun shot, also make sure you follow it through :)

  • I always seem to forget 1 step whilst playing this shot, ill have it nailed down soon though! (hopefully haha)

  • @RyanWatchesNaruto Hi there, I know this is easy for me to say , but just try to "relax on the shot" ,as too much tension through the arm will cause it all to go wrong. thanks for taking the time to post, & let me know how you get on. cheers.. K

  • wow.... thnx for uploading !

  • @saadbinarshad thanks for the kind comments...K

  • nice vidoe thNK you

  • @habib738 Hi there, thanks for the kind comment. cheers, Kevy.

  • Kev, I would also like to watch the video on break building, also, id like to say a big thankyou , my game has really improved due to watching some of the tips please don't stop making them , as they are hugely appreciated. respect for putting the time in. Sam

  • @TheStyxUKHH Hi sam, firstly thanks for the very kind comments.

I have made a few of these videos. Anyway I've sent you a video of me making a total clearence , during which, I tell you the ball I'm going to play & how I'm playing it .

example: blue ball, played with slow drag to the center pocket, to leave me a 1/2-ball on the next red.

I hope this is what you need, but please let me know if it's not quite right for you & I'll send you another one . cheers, Kevy.

  • should your cue tip feel harder or more spongier? I just installed a mike wooldridge supertip (non laminated) and it feels a little hard (but I wouldn't know)?

  • @manns101101 Hi there, It would be unfair of me to tell you how "your" perticular tip should feel, that is down to preference, but I can tell you that if a snooker tip is soft then it is useless.

Here is my simple rule of thumb, if a tip can't perform a full range of shots within 15 minutes of fitting , then it is not suitable for snooker.

These are to be played to the maximum extreme that "you" can play.

    STUN, STUN-RUN, TOP, BOTTOM(SCREW), FULL-SIDE

this is a very touchy subject...K

  • hello mate just to congratulate you on some brilliant tutorials!!

  • @am110394 thank you ....K

  • @kevy62 watching your banana shot one and if it were a clock would u hit it at 12ish?? and the comment below ask's about break building any chance of the link to the video?

  • nice video thank you

  • hey kev... i have been playing snooker since i was 7 and im not 18.. and i am quite a good player at the minute with a highest break of 64..could u make a vid on showing me how u break build? because im not to good at the whole developing the reds thing.. my average break is like.15.. and then once the opponent develops the reds i can clear up haha... if u could show me ways of gettin from blue and smashing the reds.. or black and smashing the reds it would really help.... thanks alot danny

  • @scouserdan3 Hi Danny, that's really cool. Anyway I have sent you a video to watch to show shot selection / breakbuilding , it's a total clearence, so should be of some use to you.

I will make a new video showing how & where to split the pack from the blue, I have to make a new one because the original seems to be failing to play.

It will be the same as my original, basicly playing from 1/2-ball & 3/4 blue positions into the top of the pack/pink, this must be played with control...K

  • heya, does a cue tip make a difference? because i tried screwing back and i tried shooting through the ball i tried putting my bridging hand closer i tried laying my bridging hand flat on the cloth...yet....i keep playing a stun instead of screwing......

im new to snooker so i hav much to learn, but wat i think is that the cue tip isnt giving good enough friction wen contacting the cue ball........got any expertise advice? :D

    trunks :D

  • @kuskzf Hi there, read some of my replys I have posted below & then watch the video again, it should be fairly easy to get the cueball to screw back, but let me know if you continue to struggle. Also I have sent you another video which will explain in a less complicated way. cheers Kevy.

  • @kuskzf hmm.. if ur stunning it.. your either not pushing your cue through the ball enough or hitting it to high, a different tip wont stop u stunning it.. try hitting lower on the ball and ensure u follow ur cue smoothly through instead of jabbing it :) good luck mate and hope u get better at snooker :)

  • Hi kevy, it's me again. As for screw ball, it could be seen that you're hitting pretty low of the cue ball, but would your cue at any point hit the table?

  • @BoogMaxi Hi there, short answer, No. If you look very carefully you will notice the tip strikes only one tip below center ball, also the chalk you can see on the cloth is coming from the cueball after striking it with the tip, watch the line being left by the cueball & not the tip on the cloth. The point to remember is to make sure the tip accelerates through the cueball,. it must be moving forward at it's fastest when the tip strikes the cueball. start slow & finish fast with the cue...K

  • great video, but when i try all i can do is chip it? Aidan,

  • @aidwikid hi there , try not to strike the cueball too low to start with, start from just below the center of the cueball, & after each attempt, move the tip of the cue down by about half it's own width, until it starts to reverse after contact.

do remember to accelerate through the cueball , (like your tip is trying to touch the object ball) so your tip ends up passing through the point of contact with the cueball by about 4-8 inches. watch the video back again slowly. good luck, K

  • Great stuff, a perfect video to show the technique. I was already able to play screw shots but not always consistent and I could never show other people properly. Using your technique means I can do it every time and I've taught a few others too. I never used to move my hand closer to take the shot :). Seems like that was the trick. Thanks

  • hey dude, does a type of cue affect the screw back?

  • Hi Kev, i have asked a number of people on here a question and no one has answered me. It is when potting to the middle pocket's with side on the white, what is the aiming point when allowing for throw. Thank's

    Danny O'Driscoll

  • @danchav8ball Hi Danny, I have lot of videos to help with this problem, have a scan through them , & if you find that you are still struggling then I'll make a video for you, but please remember that every cue throws differently, so it might be perfect for you, but we'll see what we can do. cheers,Kevy

  • Lovely video mate, thanks alot.

  • hi there u usually use MSN messanger

i am a snooker fan from ASIA

unfortunately there is no coching available

  • great tip man:) u been so helpfull thanx mate

  • @fadirebellion, you are very welcome, let me know how you get on , or if you need any more help...K

  • @kevy62 hi there i usually use msn messanger

i am a snooker fan from asia...

unfortunatly there is no coching available..

got to say this to you that i have improved a lot by watching your videos.....

  • i love 12ft snooker tables its really hard when you play pool

  • hey kev great vid man!!!

can you tell us the best practice routine to make out potting better ???

  • good question, unfortunately there are tonnes of good routines.

I tend to favour set pieces, try putting 2 reds at random on the table, you are 42 behind with 43 on, pot the lot to win by 1...

Set 5 reds at random, between pink & black balls (with colours on their spots) you are 65 behind , clear the table to make 67 & snatch the frame.

clear the colours, but gain position from black to yellow, then replace all the colours (not the cueball) keep clearing until you miss......K

  • hey kev great vid man!!!

can you tell us the best practice routine to make out potting better ???

  • A screw shot is not follow through, is punch shot. Many players thought follow through is essential, however, strength is not pass to object ball. Notice how good players cue.

5 rules to take note for cueing:

    1)Bridging hand

    2)Stance

    3)Master eye sighting

    4)Grip

5)Chin on cue at all time

  • Hi there, rules are ok but. Actually it is a smooth well timed stroke that is the secret to getting through the cueball well.

never jab or stab or poke the cueball.!

Strength has absolutely nothing to do with cue power... as above , you need to be smooth, & one thing you seem to have forgotten .. eyes on the OBJECT BALL when striking the CUEBALL.. nothing more..K

  • hey thanks for the advice, i thought that is one of the fundamental that the players should already know... glad you mention for the benefit of all :)

  • If anyone there missing cue... you should use a chalk... ok? i did missed .. and once i used the chalk is ok^^

  • @reccaflare yeah thats so true

  • The problem i had was i kept the bridge hand high.. or atleast high enough that the screw was much more difficult... simples - keep the bridge low and follow through...

  • sometimes i do that and i miss cue which is really frustrating. Any tips on shaping a tip and what i should use to keep it grippy?

  • make sure the top of the tip is NOT flat & has a slight dome, that's it for the shape. As for "keeping it grippy" well, as a tip beds in, it should become slightly harder, this is normal with elks & diamonds, the drawback is sometimes they don't take chalk quite so well, which can cause miscues. If so, you can use a tip pic, or a tapping file, this will keep the tip lively, but be warned if you over use them, the tip fibres may become loose, & destroy the tip (use with caution) or leave alone.

  • @kevy62 Do you have a video on how to shape the tip? If i need to put on a new tip. Thanks

  • checkout snooker tips #14 , & perhaps read the comments too , although the standard dome shape on an elkmaster is plenty good enough , some players prefer a flowerpot shape.

  • cool

  • have watched several different teachers on youtube, and he is the best by far. Simple & easy to understand. great work!

  • i used to struggle with screwback but now it is as he is saying now its simple and easy

  • hi, i dont know y i cant do the screw back though i have followed through. Is it my cue power not strong enough?

  • you dont ever need strenght playing snooker or billards. what you need to make good spinshots, is acceleration. its not about strength or speed, its just acceleration.

the movement of your forearm should start slow and finish fast. the more acceleration you still have, when the tip touches the cueball the more effect you will gain. its a matter of timing, coz your muscles moving speed is limited, means: too fast=no more acceleration=no effect. and make shure you hit the cueball at the bottom^^

  • i wouldn't have thought so, cuz when i was having coaching lessons with frank adamson, ronnie osullivan and stephen lees coach, he said the power shouldn't matter. so i reckon its probably either your tip or your cue action. a way to practice is to start off with the balls close together, and then gradually increase the distance between the balls. eventually you should be able to do it with quite a distance between the balls.

  • is this the same for jimmy white's screw back shot on the pick against kirk stevens?

  • hi there, the method is almost exactly the same . however do remember that jimmy's cue back then was only 16.5oz which will be far easier to get through the cue ball. ( a lighter cue can move forward faster than a heavy one)

  • i know what u mean i played a jimmy esque shot with a really light cue and now ive got a new heavier one and im really struggling to get screw

  • i need help.can someone tell me if i use this method of screwback in pool instead of snooker, will the ball still reverse like that?because everytime i tried to screwback in pool, the ball always jumps and thats really irritating.can someone pls help me.thx

  • try keepin ur cue level n low....it jumps when u raise ur back hand and cue down on it cue ball

  • good timing of striking the cue ball is essential aswell

  • finding out how to do screw back doesnt win frames against good players, basics

  • awesome tip there!!

kevv, if I need to screw back from a little far off the table I happen to miss-cue it and cant pot the ball..,

Sometimes the cue ball jumps off when I strike below the ball to screw back...i end up giving a foul

    :(

do u have any tip for that?

example:- Cue ball on yellow spot and object ball on the blue spot..

  • this has helped me alot wiv my game im playing well at the moment thanks to this

im makeing breaks and winning frames early.

  • so easy once you get the hang of it to be honest with ya
