  • spin those mickey thompsons on clorax to make 'em sticky for better traction...yep the good ole days !!

  • That appears (to me) to be James Warren driving the Warren-Coburn-Miller car that Big Daddy defeated in this final. The Ridge Route Terror was one of the strongest cars to ever campaign out of the west coast ~ I know ~ I lived @ SoCal strips from 1964 until drafted in 1969. Sadly, James Warren just passed away a few days ago. Drag racing, in the 60's, was the best although front-engine cars were always trouble waiting to happen. Today's drag racing is dominated by big money multi-car teams.

  • look at these sick bastards! lol gotta love it! smokin allll the way down the track with the tire like 6 inches from your head!

  • Drag racing isn't the same as it used to be! You dont see the crowds get that excited for anything other than the people with the free T-shirt cannon.

  • mopar or no car!!!!

  • Man Hurst Aid takes me back to signs hanging in my grandpas garage when i was a kid.

  • OMG- this front engine monsters were BADass.....!!!!!

  • when you see the cars of today you really realize what death traps these original drag cars were!!! Balls of Steel!

  • It's the hole shot that counts!

  • Back when racers and their car were so much more genuine than they are today.

  • don garlits sexy man back in the day

  • yep the ocala museum is VERY cool...thank god i live fairly close to it. and big daddy seems to be the real deal. very genuine and a true car guy, not just a hired gun.

  • @jankins350 Don Garlits is considered to be the best ever by virtue that he literally did it all. There was "Don The Chassis Builder", "Don The Engine Builder", "Don The Tuner", and "Don The Driver". I too, went to The Museum in Ocala while I was vacationing in Orlando. I marveled at Don's favorite car SR-1, wept while standing in front of SR-13. My girfriend didn't know why until I told her about "The Accident"(I was at Lion's 3-8-70), was wowed at SR-14, I was like a kid in candy store.

  • That looks like Connie Swingle standing behind the Gar in the TV interview.

  • i got some old photos of don Garlits....check it out

  • I remember when a 6 second Top Fuel pass was brilliant!

  • I remember going to the winter nationals in the 80s and seeing a sign saying Break the 5 second barrier. We've come a long way
