Both were struggling artists in the late 70's- Madonna's first hit was released in September 1983, Holiday (previously she had released Everybody in 1982 and Burning up earlier in 1983) and Cyndi Lauper brought out her first hit in October '83- Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Both rose to prominence about the same time, question is did they know of eachother before this?

I'm a Madonna diehard, but man, do I love me some Cyndi just as much! And don't you just find it amazing how, at over 50, she still sings as powerful and as amazing as she did in her 80's heyday? And it becomes even more impressive when you consider how other powerful vocalists, like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, have since lost their voices way sooner than her.

There s no doubt Madonna is bigger then Cyndi. However Madonna just was in the right place at the right time.She got a huge push from her Studios when she was starting her Music. Cyndi in my opinion was just discovered 5 years to late. She was in her early thirties while Madonna was in her early twenties when they became a hit. This is huge thing in the music industry.

I don't think this... the battle between they was more a media invention that a reality. I like both, but i love Cyndi Lauper. I saw her here in Argentina the last year and was great. Her voice is intact and the contact with her public is unique
