As the swordfish lunged forward it's bill actually went down the throat of the guy holding the rod. Because almost all of the impact was into the back of the boat the guy was able to survive. If he had been sitting just a bit further forwards then it's highly likely he would have died from the impact. However, he still needed to be rushed to hospital for treatment after this ordeal.
